Paul Dulieu's football-fuelled education explained how we can relate footy to our networking efforts. Stuart Smallcombe then clearly demonstrated his experience and setup a live Starlink Satellite to our amazement.

Phew what a scorcher! It was hot by 7:00am, before the meeting started. 18 of us attended and our venue reverberated with the sound of numerous fans keeping the temperature down but with the attendant requirement that when we stood up and spoke we kept voice levels up.

Performance League

Scott Griffiths made the award to Paul Corrigan for last month’s performance where he was runaway winner. After the first week of July,  Toby Acton was out front with 68 points.

Scott Griffiths on 57 and Terry Maylin on 56

Education Slot

Paul Dulieu was at his extended metaphorical best. A comparison of how you perform as a networker with how footballers perform, with particular reference to the World Cup. It was a substantial presentation which compared, scoring a goal, with kicking the ball into the net all which presupposes all the necessary teamwork. This in networking terms means attending meetings, delivering 60 second presentations, 1-2-1s and giving referrals and having referrals turn into business. Yes, the links are of course obvious… your need to turn up at meetings is allied to minutes on the pitch, presentations amount to calling for the ball, 1-2-1s could be seen as training sessions, referrals are a through ball. And finally securing the business is scoring the goal. I was exhausted…… probably the hot weather but all of us were impressed if by nothing else than the time it must have taken him to prepare it!

60-Second Presentation Round

Terry Maylin stood in for Steve Chilton with regard to the awarding of this week’s Oscar. This week he was looking for clients with commercial disputes and warning that they should be prepared not to get bogged down with a lengthy and expensive litigation process and he will always try and get them to look at the commercial reality of getting issues resolved.

Blake Hammond was once again explaining how AI can be used to activate electrical items in your house. One way or another he found AI to be a useful turn on.

Two members produced leaflets to advertise their services. One was Mike Skinner and the other was Sally Waters. Mike’s illustrated how effective a physical piece of advertising can be and Sally was promoting her signature club.

Clara Downton reminded us all that further advances can be used to fund specific projects, particularly in relation to your house.

Howard Bullock gave a very useful explanation as to why, handing over your property to your children in an attempt to avoid inheritance tax is the last thing that you should do and he gave various reasons which summarised the risk that I often find myself confronted with when advising clients about their wills. His message was….. Don’t do it.

Paul Dulieu has a new title for himself, The Friendly Face of Death. It perhaps is not the most comfortable rallying cry for those in need of a celebrant services.

Dave Roberts was specifically looking for landlords who should be making sure that their premises are properly compliant and he showed the reports that he produces.

Scott Griffiths suggested blogging in relation to the companies that you work with can be as effective as blogs relating to your own business.

Jane Malyon can create a tea party wherever you want it. Either at one location where everyone is situated or separately if you are all connected via zoom. She has everything you need even for a digital tea party.

Terry Maylin obviously enjoyed his adjudication duties so much that he awarded the Oscar to both Blake Hammond and Catherine Foley, Both for their AI references. Blake is embracing it, Catherine both fighting and cuddling.

10-Minute Presentation by Stuart Smallcombe

He reckons he’s done about 40 of them but this was probably the most interesting and inventive to date. Stuart Smallcombe as you know provides Internet connection mostly through the cloud. This week however, he produced a demonstration of the Starlink satellite network facility. He connected 3 bits of kit, 2 inside the venue and 1 outside. Catherine Foley was the brave volunteer who stepped outside in the heat to hold the satellite dish. With the use of this dish, a modem, and a mobile phone he got it working and explained it in a way that I could understand and presumably everyone else therefore would have appreciated what could have been a bit of a hostage to fortune but turned out to be inspired. His demonstration had the hallmarks of a great 10 minutes. What he managed to do was show that he had a product that even I could understand and therefore could go out and sell for him.
