Fresh bright and sunny. That’s a description of both the weather and the 18 members in attendance. 2 visitors were in attendance which always keeps us on our best behaviour.
Performance League
The month of July has passed and we think that Sally Waters won with 274 points. Figures to be confirmed as there appears to be confusion on the points front. Scott is sorting it out and will report next week.
Education Slot
Jane Malyon reminded us of the magic 7. Of course, her reference was a Christmas game. A snatched view of items on a tray to be committed to memory leaves us with a maximum of seven remembered apparently. A similar challenge is posed by networking, so clear your mind for the 60 second presentations and make notes if necessary. The importance that we all feel of giving referrals is only capable of working if everybody adopts the same attitude.
Membership Matters
It was Dave Rose of Comprehensive Removals who was put through the metaphorical ‘tarring and feathering’ that accompanies Induction to Membership. We now have two Dave’s to add to the three Pauls. There will be extra bonus points for anyone who introduces an Aidan…….or two!
60-Second Presentation Round
Silvia Neveda was this week’s adjudicator and she also asked us to look out for any councils that might have buildings that need to be made safe as well as cleaned.
In the presence of two visitors, members erred on the side of giving a general description of the sort of business they were looking for rather than specific pitches.
Mike Skinner emphasised the videos that can be produced to help advertise and enhance a businesses’ website. Steve Chilton indicated that he was available to businesses with insurance problems. Shannon Savedge explained her position in Downton Mortgages and how she is part of the process of putting mortgages in place for their clients. Paul Corrigan back from his ascent of Snowdon, is currently just ticking over during the holiday….. But he is awaiting the deluge.
Those who were more specific included new boy David Rose who was looking for people who needed to take advantage of his company’s storage services for whatever reason, be it part of a moving process or just in need of more space. Paul Dulieu likewise emphasised the ‘celebratory’ nature of his celebracy. He doesn’t just do funerals!. His modus operandi is ‘listen, shape, and deliver’.
Some people, often flat owners, have an address of 1A. Blake Hammond is looking to turn his house into an AI house, and he reported on the progress he is making in what could make it the ideal set for a new version of Home Alone.
We had already heard from members who can help with the house moving process. Shannon and the mortgages that are needed, David Rose and the removals that are required and now Leann Reason who offered her assistance when you move into your new home and need inspiration in how it should be presented. Dave Roberts was the other contender for referrals relating to where we live. He can produce the appropriate electronic advice and testing that your house will need if you move, or even if you’re staying where you are.
Finally, Terry Maylin will help you if you have bought a property to let out. The new Tenants Rights Act is increasingly putting landlords through the hoops if they need to gain possession from an existing tenant. Now that everything is new, it is even more important to get the correct advice from the outset.
Scott Griffiths has a simpler suggestion in getting referrals for him. There are various domain names available which might be worth securing for your business if you are anxious not to be prey to competitors trying to occupy the ground that you already occupy or want to occupy. It’s a simple referral.
After all the effort by members it was Jane Malyon who was awarded the Oscar who quoted Nelson Mandela. England’s greatest export is the cream tea, and she explained the hoops she had to jump through to be allowed to use the name ‘English’ Cream Tea Company. She deserved the Oscar if for no other reason than her persistence.
Meeting Secretaries Report
After £74,000 worth of business recorded last month, we made a good start to this, £19,000 recorded.
10-Minute Presentation by Aidan Squire
It was my turn this week and I thought that a specifically dedicated Q&A session might be helpful. It’s never possible to answer all questions and I would like to remind everyone that I will be happy to discuss any areas of my work that they think might be relevant to contacts or friends that they have. A discussion of requirements does not involve the financial commitment. That only happens when I am specifically instructed to do something.
Well done all on a great, lively meeting which i am sure will help the visitors make the right decision and apply to join.
A great reminder from Jane to make your 60 seconds interesting and memorable…not easy but worth making the effort.
Well done Aidan on trying out a new format for the 10 minute presentation which i thought worked very well.
Great meeting as always and good to see two new visitors come along. Have a great week.
