Paul Booth gave a back-to-basics presentation about referrals, and then Matt Barry presented an intro to his creative agency, Blue Serif, followed by a brands quiz.

Great turn out, 21 members plus one guest provided the prospect of a  lively meeting. Toast was in the ascendancy and unusually only one granola. For the health of the meeting, I was pleased to note brown bread in complete ascendancy whether to receive spread or encase sausage and bacon. A healthy group is a happy group!!!!

Performance League

We’re well into the month and there is Hammond dominance. John is on 192 and Blake 184. Scott Griffiths is on 177

Education Slot

Paul Booth delivered the presentation this week which was back to basics. The reason we turn up is principally to give and receive referrals. If everybody focuses on giving referrals we will all be happy. Rule number 1, listen carefully both to 60 second presentations and the 10 minutes. Try and think referrals as you go about your daily business and when you make your presentations try and be as specific as you can as to the sort of referrals you are looking for. An indication of the sort of things that can go wrong in your field of endeavour is often a very suitable stimulus for those listening.

Membership Matters

Terry Maylin announced Joshua Ayettey’s retirement from the group. He has recently, with his wife, taken on the daunting task of fostering children. We wish him well and Terry urged us to continue thinking of him when we thought referrals as he is not giving up on his business. His life has assumed the larger dimension which makes his attendance at our meetings impossible.

60-Second Presentation Round

Sally Waters was judging this week. Her contribution was to list all the candles that she’s made this week. Amazing!

The first person that she and we all then listened to was Toby Acton. He introduced us to something that looked like a beer mat with the words written on it ‘Round Tuit’ He produced this from an envelope. The message was obvious when explained to us, often a failing of a business is not to get ‘around to it’ Although she listened to everyone else carefully, she looked no further than Toby for the Oscar award. The first time he departs from the use of metaphor he wins the Oscar! I hope this does not put him off going forward……

So, what of the rest of us. Blake Hammond was looking to offer AI training, and Clara Downton has been busy coping with interest rates going the wrong way. Sylvia Neveda once again reminded us that if you wanted to get your carpet cleaned, the warm days of summer provide the best drying opportunities. Catherine Foley it’s putting together packages for assisting with helping to make your website AI friendly and Terry Maylin is looking for commercial disputes where he can hopefully guide clients to mediation.

John Hammond once again was talking CCTV and the importance of hooking up with the Internet if for no other reason than to help you monitor that it is in working order.

Stuart Smallcombe asked us all to keep a lookout for any small IT businesses that might be looking to being acquired. He sees it as an effective way of extending their business.

Leann Reason was back after a break and was able to explain how she works with others such as architects in assisting in the design of extensions etc.

Dave Roberts is looking for anyone with a faulty fuse board.

Howard Bullock gave a great impression of waves using his hands to good effect in illustrating how he can balance investments to make sure different platforms produce different levels of performance at different times. Sounded like magic. More importantly, in illustrating manually he was restricted in his usual massage of Paul Booth.

Jane Malyon was self-analytical over her customer base. Her English Cream Tea product is most frequently purchased as a gift for a reward by a commercial enterprise. Apparently, McDonalds reward their staff in this way. It must be comforting to know that your endeavours would not be limited to the bonus of just a Big Mac.

One way or another it was a successful set of offerings perhaps prompted by Paul Booths Ed slot.

Meeting Secretaries Report

Today we had 16 referrals and although £5000 recorded business was not in any way record-breaking the overall for the month, with another week to go is £55,000 and referrals total 40. We have maintained our performance so far this month. Let’s see if we can boost it by this time next week

10-Minute Presentation by Matt Barry

Matt Barry held the floor this week with the sort of professional display via the television screen that you would expect from our master of branding and marketing. We also had a ‘spot the brand’ quiz which is always very illustrative of the world in which Matt operates. As always, well put together and professionally presented.

It is hoped that we can maintain our attendance levels for the last meeting of the month.

Really great to see the meeting so busy and with a visitor too.
Great presentation Matt, your brand quiz’s are always good fun.

I’m not sure about 30 questions, though, as by my quick maths afterwards I got 25 right and at least 12 wrong…

Excellent meeting. I love Matt’s brand quizzes as it gets my brain cogitating in the morning. Having said that I think it wasn’t cogitating as much as Blake’s, who did incredibly well. Probably only 3 or 4 that he didn’t know the answer to. He was the true winner!
