It was an uninspiring solar eclipse that’s brought 21 members to our meeting in hope of something more uplifting and something that could be achieved without the use of a colander. Undaunted by the prospect of the hottest day of the year, or maybe because of it there was lively pre meeting networking. The meeting was drawn to order by this week’s bellman Toby Acton.
Performance League
Only one week into August and Steve Chilton had amassed 97 points, John Hammond 106 but way out front on 219 was Paul Corrigan. More than well-deserved he has introduced 1 visitor who has joined and another who has expressed himself ready to join when he has completed his parental leave.
Education Slot
A reminder to all of us that the art of the metaphor is not dead was personified by none other than Toby Acton instructing us on the ‘flywheel effect’. It is not one moment that gives us success in life or in business. It is an accumulation off small steps that enables us to get the flywheel turning and the successful running of our business. The successful focus of promoting and running our business by ongoing efforts can be seen in the way in which we network.
Membership Matters
We were able to welcome David Rose as a fully-fledged member following his induction last week. Terry Maylin was also able to report that we have another application before us that is being considered by the membership committee. Watch this space!
60-Second Presentation Round
Jane Malyon was in the adjudication hot seat and was able to declare this week as National Afternoon Tea week.
The joy of the simile was celebrated by Toby Acton with a comparison of the solar eclipse to the times we might find our business goals obscured but if we stick to it, it all comes back just like the sun… masterful!
For the first time in my memory, we had a prop that had to be handled with white gloves. Sally Waters produced a resin candle produced for stay over guests at a wedding, emblazoned with the bride and groom’s initials. If you have a celebration Sally will be able to find you a suitable candle to celebrate it with.
Mike Skinner announced his departure in the next few weeks on ta music tour of Europe but he is still available to talk referrals and business in his absence.
We now have two Daves and they were both looking for something of the same thing…. To wit builders. Dave Roberts was looking for builders to enable him to supply his electrical services and Dave Rose so that he can offer his storage facilities when works such as refurbishment are being carried out to properties.
In addition to the two Daves there are of course 3 Pauls. Dulieu is on holiday in the lakes but Paul Corrigan was in evidence today with his top tips. Whilst your boiler is not in use get it serviced or alternatively put it on, despite the heat, so that you are ready for when the weather gets colder. You might not believe that that is possible at the moment….. But it is.
Catherine Foley was looking to help those with grammar issues. In her guise of prose pedant, she is concerned about the use of myself rather than me and the mixing up of I and me.(myself).
Scott Griffiths is looking to help us refresh our websites and look for referrals for him. Look at the copyright date at the end of the website. This will give an indication of the date on which it was last attended to. Clever eh!
Talking of refreshing websites, Matt Barry is back refreshed from holiday and was looking at an even bigger picture. Big moments when you your business alters their products, changes their focus or embarks upon another pathway. He can help.
Terry Maylin gave us some interesting in information about the inventor of modern mediation. Now embraced by the courts this is something that he can help you with if you are in a dispute. It can save you levels of anguish and legal fees.
And so, to the Oscar. Jane awarded it after some deliberation to Dave Rose for his storage solutions for house refurbishment through builders. Well done, Dave. Your first Oscar!
Meeting Secretaries Report
This follows the 60 second round as night follows day or more like sunshine after an eclipse! Scott Griffiths awarded Sally Waters her certificate for being the winner of the performance league for the month of July, well done Sally. He was also able to report a good start to the month of August with £26,500 recorded business and 12 referrals
10-Minute Questions and Answers session
I know I am supposed to be supervising the running of the meeting, but I confess to having missed the absence of a 10 minute speaker. Notwithstanding this and the lack of warning to individual members to think of questions, there was the usual excellent participation in this event and as usual we had to bring this part of the meeting to a conclusion whilst people were still raising their hands to pose further questions. Congratulations to all participants.
I do love an occasional Q&A session… a great meeting this morning.
