Chairman’s Blog – Meeting Thursday 7th February 2013
26 present including 4 guests – Maria Taylor from a recruitment company, Lynda Wallis lingerie and Mark and Ian Buckley electricians (Mark attending for the second time).
Maria and Mark both indicated an interest in joining and took the requisite forms with them.
David Plumley’s Education Slot highlighted procrastination, in other words never do today what you can put off until tomorrow and why this is a bad thing. His presentation was too long for one Ed Slot so he has put the remainder of the presentation off until next week!
Chris Smythe opened the 60 second round looking sun tanned. Hopefully by next week he will have spent sufficient time indoors decorating that he will look as white as the rest of us.
Michael Adelizzi thrilled us all with his demonstration of the clunk click plug that rather cleverly collects hairs that might otherwise be washed away. There seemed to be a collective look of revulsion around the meeting as he presented his demonstration. Probably because we have all had to clear out hair from sinks from time to time that makes it an invention you needed to examine on an empty stomach.
Alan Shaw took the Education Slot very much to heart and picked up on the idea of writing down every day what you need to do and then transferring over to the next day the jobs that you did not do. I got the impression that at the end of the week any jobs left over were consigned to the bin, but perhaps that is an unfair assumption. May be Michael Adelizzi can produce a plug that will collect uncompleted tasks at the end of each day.
The pullovers were much in evidence this week, Graham Thurston sported a salmon pink pullie, Nick Cooke’s was a sort of rust colour and Kevin Brooks went for a straight red number. All very fetching.
Jaimie Harrison proved that she read my blog last week by producing some verse that picked up on the egg theme, which by the way was very good this week!! She came close to the Oscar as did Scott Griffiths with his piece of re-marketing: we all should have sat up and taken notice of this. The ability to have your name flash up on other web sites as a result of having clicked on to them must have great potential advertising value. He also came close to the Oscar for what was a very effective piece of promotion.
Pride of the place with the Oscar, however, went to Nick Morgan with his design graphics for vehicles. The many photographic examples he showed us and threw over his shoulder with gay abandon well illustrated his product.
The 10 minute presentation, the coveted slot, went this week to Chris Sadler who produced an excellent display of his abilities as a photographer which are considerable. I think he probably has a winning formula with his erotic photoshoots for the aged. We all must have elderly parents or grandparents who might benefit from doing something liberating with their bodies. I have to say that it did conjure up thoughts that were reminiscent of Michael Adelizzi’s clunk click plug designed for collecting hairs.
Little known facts, he knew Adolph Hitler and Jimmy Saville………… knowing in the Biblical sense, or so it seemed.
Time to get down to business, or rather get down to the business that was passed, a healthy £22,000.00 recorded with plenty of referrals. It was during the referrals round that Alan Shaw declared that Chris Sadler had inadvertently at one stage in his life lived quite close to him. I was left to wonder whether this proximity had in any way rubbed off one on the other. Anybody with any illustrations of similarities between Mr. Sadler and Mr. Shaw may feel free to comment appropriately at the end of this blog.
Many of our absentees were suffering from man or woman flu. I wish you all a speedy recovery and hope that you will all turn up for a big turn up next week.
Another great meeting. Well done to everyone.
As it will be Valentines day next week i’d like to start off the comments by suggesting two things:
1. In order to win the Oscar next week your 60 seconds needs to include “something you love about your business”
2. That we all shuffle things up and sit in a different place to our usual seats.
What do you think?
Oh, and Chris, if you would like to provide me with one of the excellent images from todays presentation i’ll make it the main image used at the top of the blog… just email it over.
Great to have 4 guests this morning. And a very witty write-up by our beloved chairman. BTW, Steve Carmichael-Brown is looking so much better these days … you’d hardly recognise him. What a merry bunch we are.
Interesting blog, and Scott, good theme for next weeks 60 second round. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the meeting this week, but look forward to seeing you all next Thursday.
Sounds like I missed a good ‘un but it was due to a sheer build up of work and increased, short term, responsibilities.
Much of my work load is due to all the referrals I’ve been given guys so thank you one & all.
See you all next week.
Thank you Scott. I shall make sure that I sit in a different seat and use the theme for my 60 seconds. It was good to see so many visitors at the meeting.
