If you can make it to EBF in January, you can get there any time. 19 of us managed it this week. Somehow when it’s cold and miserable the granola count goes down.
A good meeting today with a guest who has, at the time of writing, already submitted a new member application!
Performance League
With one week to go Scott Griffiths is out front with 318 points. He is followed by Paul Corrigan on 306 with Matt Barry third on 302.
Education Slot
Our education presenter was not available this week, so I provided the stand in. I used my time to point out certain incongruities as to how EBF operates. We are not a charitable organisation, quite the contrary. We are there to promote each other and our respective businesses. That doesn’t mean we do not respond to charitable causes dear to our members hearts.
Similarly, we are an inclusive group looking to benefit each other by effectively acting as a sales team. However, we often best serve each other by understanding synergies and making specific connections that enable an effective referral system. The Matt Barry /Scott Griffiths axis is one such example. The exclusivity of such arrangements ought to be celebrated and others should be looking to establish similar groupings. Attending synergy team meetings is often the starting point.
60-Second Presentation Round
The Oscar holder was Sally Waters and she got proceedings underway by explaining the use of her memorial candles. She was followed by Paul Corrigan who, despite a difficult week, had good news about acquiring commercial premises for his business.
Matt Berry explained how he had been energised. The reason behind it is almost irrelevant, being energised is what’s important.
Mike Skinner made the general point that websites need to be both functional and look good. He can help with both.
Clara Downton has been busy with new enquiries and after taking details from a new client asked if there was anything unusual about the premises she was looking to mortgage and she was told it had a metal roof. Undeterred she managed to place it with a Lender who was metal roof friendly. Leann Reason gave further evidence of the house market picking up. She’s been advising a friend who is putting her property back onto the market, to make it internally more attractive.
With Stuart Smallcombe, it was back to basics. The importance of cabling to installation is the same for both big companies and small ones and he of course can work for either.
Jane Malyon was going on about scones again. The many and various alternatives for opening the scone and applying the clotted cream and jam was examined minutely but frankly, as long as they buy her scones she’s not really bothered.
Terry Maylin had a message for all of those who wish to claim redundancy. Make sure you’re employed in the first place. A self-employed contractor does not qualify. If you do not know qualified from unqualified you should consult a solicitor.
Howard Bullock has been consolidating pensions for his clients. He is always careful to retain policies that have certain specific benefits that might prove useful in the future. As with Terry Maylin before him, if you’ve got to problem consult a professional.
Talking of professionals, the Oscar winner was Joshua Ayettey for explaining his diversification into the design of commercial premises.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Only £5000 worth of business recorded this week, but when added to the monthly total to date we are in excess of £61,000 which is a good start to the year.
10-Minute Presentation by Scott Griffiths
This week it was Scott Griffiths who has recently updated his own website, and he talked us through it by way of illustrating how he does it.
It was an interesting insight although we didn’t need much convincing having seen at first hand his skills with the EBF website. We don’t really need convincing as to his refer ability but the presentation was very interesting.
Website looked amazing Scott! Great 10 minutes mate!
See you all next week
