After the hottest few days in May for countless years at least sixteen of us survived and were ready to go after 6:15 AM. Everything about the day apart from our diminished attendance was glorious.
Performance League
At this last meeting of the month Terry Maylin is out front on 199 points, only one point behind was Clara Downton and Mike Skinner is sitting third with 143 points. As both Clara and Terry are currently absent on holiday Mike Skinner is well placed.

Paul Dulieu reminded us that however nice we can be with customers and clients we must never let generosity cause us to undervalue our product and render the services we provide unprofitable. It is important that we all not only value our own services but make sure clients and customers do so as well. A useful reminder to us all
60-Second Presentation Round
The current Oscar holder, partly by way of successful arm wrestling set about his task with gusto. Perhaps not unsurprisingly, Solitaire has been overwhelmed this week by inquiries regarding air conditioning. A single unit can be as little as £1200.
Mike Skinner is looking for event organisers to enable him to exercise his drones, prompted by a last-minute inquiry from the Suffolk music festival.
Toby Acton’s message was an acknowledgement of human frailty, even in business, he finds it necessary to advise his clients to stop and focus.
Someone who had forgotten his limitations in the heat was Steve Chilton, who embarked upon decorating his Conservatory in what must have been considerable heat. He stuck to it however and transposed this approach to life to the business that he undertakes for clients.
Blake Hammond continues his quest to convert us all into owning smart homes; closing things, opening things, switching things on and switching things off. All of these without even being in the house….aaaaaaaaaaaah!
Sally Waters was explaining the importance of luxury diffusers; it’s apparently all in the quality of the oils. Leann Reason was emphasising her role in helping you resolve your home dilemmas. She will be taking a short leave of absence from us to help get her daughter attend a college placement but she is still open for business even if she will not be at some of the upcoming meetings.
Scott Griffiths felt it important to emphasise to us the new Google core update; a redesign of its ranking system as of May 2026, trying to combat ‘AI Slop’. The perfect introduction for Catherine Foley who can help you with wording your website so that it avoids said Slop.
Someone should be congratulated….. Jane Malyon’s son Edward is due to marry shortly and is looking for the the proprietors of the English Cream Tea Company (to wit Jane and Roger) to provide the wedding breakfast and yes, you’ve guessed it, Full English!
The winner of the Oscar this week however, achieved without the necessity of an arm wrestle, was Paul Dulieu. As a sort of follow up to his education presentation his theme was knowing when you’ve done a good job by the thanks you receive. Often in some cases, for obvious reasons these thanks can be slightly delayed but remain important
I cannot end the review of this round without pointing out that Paul Booth sees himself on a digital journey with his clients over the subject matter of their tax returns. What was perhaps more impressive was the fact that he had calculated the percentage that the three Pauls present in the room represented to the meeting. Once an accountant……
10-Minute Presentation by Catherine Foley
Children’s education is something that you do not and trust lightly but Catherine Foley this week, by giving us her back story, setting out her credentials, successfully produced that warm glow that comes from knowing that she is somebody we not only can entrust with our own children education but also those of our friends when we have an opportunity to give a referral.
All of this and yet no one dead call her Miss…. Impressive
Really good education from Paul – I think that many of us have metaphorically tripped up in our businesses by being “too nice”.
Fantastic presentation from Catherine. We’ve had excellent service and support from her for both of my children and highly recommend using her.
