Phew!!! what a scorcher! The morning following the hottest day of the year resulted in a very laid back turn out of summer gear. 7 members in shorts and Brian Painter in a rather fetching cream coloured suit in celebration of the recent summer solstice. Optimism abounded and we managed a turnout of 20.

Education Presentation
Ben Golding is back!!! A welcome return to our Thursday mornings after his experience is under the surgeon’s knife. He looked fit, trim, with the prospect of still having another stone to lose. His time off clearly had given him the opportunity of carefully considering this week’s offering which was based around the price tag of 1.2 million for a bit of rock that had been on the Titanic. The story behind things can be a great determiner of value. This can be carried forward by us into our businesses. We all have a back story, the sharing of which with our clients /customers can add value. This revelation certainly gave us all something to think about.
New Member Induction & Existing Member Renewal
Always a cause for celebration, three members have been applied for annual renewal and being accepted for another year. Clara Downton, Jane Malyon and John Hammond. There is a further one in the wings which hopefully will be completed and revealed next week.
The 60 Second Round
As well as adjudicating the Oscar this week Howard Bullock does pensions, ISAs and all sorts of other financial things.
Melissa Jackson had a salutary tale for us about a successful and well established business that was brought down by failing to deal with county court proceedings for a relatively small sum. Allowing a county court judgement to be obtained against it and thereafter finding difficulties with credit and all sorts of other things ultimately led to its demise. Don’t leave things in the air, however unimportant they might appear to be. With county court judgments you can approach Melissa OR Terry Maylin depending upon what stage it is all reached. Help is out there!
Chris de la Prida with a warm sunny room from which to address members whetted the appetite with a 21 nighter in Malta at £698.00 per head and the two resort offering in Spain for £590.00 per person. The problem is that if Chris drums up business for members so effectively our numbers will go down in the meetings.
Brian Painter was all about phobias this week. A man who took fright when the speedo reached 70 mph. It made him panic and immediately slow down to 30mph. How immediately was unclear but hopefully Brian can get him breaking the speed limit with impunity.
It is the events season and these are frequently annual affairs. Mike Skinner’s message was that photography should be professionally done when the particular festival is in full swing. Don’t rely on the mobile phone for shots that can be promotional for next year. As with all things, go to the professional.
Ben Golding is back with all of Utility Warehouse’s exploits with 4 ‘U Switch’ awards this year.
Leann Reason was emphasising the importance of the hallway. This is the ‘eyes’ into the home. As with Mike Skinner, use a professional it can make a difference.
Clara Downton was able to report reducing rates in mortgage products but it is all relative, they have just put them up a lot! Despite the election there is a prospect of stability in the mortgage market which is to be seen as a source of comfort.
Paul Corrigan is back on the tools because things are busy in the plumbing trade. He proudly sported dirty fingernails as proof of this. If anything came over this week it was that you should use professionals. Dave Roberts warned against the perils of DIY electricals which led to a nasty shock when dealing with floodlights. He is here to tell the tale.
Did you know it’s National Cream Tea Day; did you know that Jane Malyon will be a guest with Radio Cornwall to celebrate this. Despite this good news story she didn’t win the Oscar. Howard favoured Toby Acton’s clear explanation of the sort of referrals he can use effectively with his Motivational Mapping.
10-minute presentation by David Roberts
Dave Roberts gave a concise and useful summary of his previous working life to date and then a clear indication of the sort of referrals that he is looking for. In particular, new installations or testing work which are all productive areas that we should all be looking for on his behalf. He presided over the distribution of referrals after his presentation in are you busy testimonials and referrals round
We finally adjourned with the prospect of another warm day.
