If ever getting up at 5:00 AM is a pleasure it is in June and July when it is light bright and warm. 19 of us had the pleasure of congregating in anticipation of our usual Thursday meeting. As a tribute to summer, several of us were in shorts (blokes that is) although the serial short wearer, James Humphreys, had taken his knees elsewhere for this particular meeting. Given the heat it was also a ‘granola day’ for those who got their orders in in good time.
The Performance League
You can tell that the holiday season is approaching when Scott Griffiths had to acknowledge that whilst his mum was on holiday the figure work on the performance league was not entirely complete. It would appear that Paul Dulieu is out front with 116 points, secondly Scott with 80 and John Hammond third with 95. Scott promised us that figures would be more accurately updated for next week. Watch this space!!
Education Presentation
It was a bit of a shock for everybody to find that I was the presenter in Ben Golding’s absence. It was an Ed Slot about the Ed Slot. In summary; we’d like to see more of you doing it, you can enlist Ben’s help on topics and please run your presentation past Ben before you make it. Please make the content EBF centric. Now that wasn’t too bad was it…..
The 60 Second Round
Joshua Ayettey was our adjudicator and his theme was how he can add value to your property by adding a bedroom in say, a loft conversion.
Matt Barry urged us all was to be conscious of our brand guidelines whilst Mike Skinner just wanted us to look out for business owners who get frustrated and having to keep explaining things about their business. He can add value to their websites with video footage that can do the explaining for you and save you time.
As EBF we are viewing the upcoming holiday season as something that has to be managed with potential loss of numbers at meetings. Sarah Smith however sees it as an opportunity. She can provide all the necessary backup for the overworked business owner who needs to get away from It all.
Gadget of the week was produced by Leann Reason. This wonderful gadget shows how colours appear with different types of light on them. Every home should have one or, perhaps it is easier to engage Leann to advise you on matters of internal decor.
Terry Maylin told of a client who is being sued for £108,000 under a personal guarantee. A warning to all, don’t enter into a guarantee of any sort without taking legal advice as to its potential consequences. It goes without saying, if you are a business owner that wishes to impose guarantees TM Law can provide you with an inexpensive template.
John Hammond tapped into a different kind of fear. A secure system not working because ants had chewed through the power cable. I feel as if I want to scratch just thinking about it.
Joshua awarded the Oscar to Toby Acton for a typically quickfire guide to analyse your business with that was remarkably metaphor free.
Meeting Secretaries Report
This was a double act.
Scott Griffiths asked members to consider whether there was enthusiasm for effectively a members-only notice board on our website advertising offers to fellow members of any type for any duration.
He then handed over to Paul Booth who outlined a ‘member recruitment’ Incentive to members that will run until September. Paul Booth will be providing us with details via e-mail but in short, if you introduce a member you will get £100 if they sign up for 12 months and £50 for 6 months. What’s not to like! Keep your eyes open for the e-mail!
10-minute presentation by David Roberts
Dave Roberts, our resident electrician, gave us a brief rundown of how he got to where he is and then went on to illustrate via the television screen the projects that his company have been involved in over recent years. There were all manner of illustrations, from an old chicken shed to a fuse box. It was not clear whether it was the chicken that was old or the shed before its conversion. Nonetheless it was an impressive demonstration of what they do. They also do much smaller jobs as many of the members testified in glowing terms in the referrals and testimonials round.
Great meeting today. Teriffic presentation from David and it was great to explain the new initiatives that we’re launching (more next week too…) This is the beauty of being a properly independant networking group who are activlely looking for ways to make things better for our members.
Really interesting presentation from David, particularly seeing some of the big jobs he’s been involved in.
Excellent meeting followed by a great B2C synergy group with Jane. Great presentation from Dave and thank you to Joshua for the unexpected Oscar!
Disappointed not to be able to get there this week. Have a good week folks and I’ll see you next week!
A great meeting and a really interesting presentation from our electrician David Roberts, who has worked on some amazing projects. There may have been a few members missing but it was still a mighty meeting.
A great meeting and really pleased with the things that we are planning to make EBF stand out from the rest with the members board, initiative to join new members and the tree project ( of more next week)
Very good 10 minute presentation from Dave Roberts a true pro!
