Following on from the hottest day of the year….. And perhaps ever. It was the morning after. All windows were open coupled with the overwhelming noise of fans which promised to be an accompaniment to the meeting. We were 18 in number. With two visitors and George as Solitaire substitute for Paul Corrigan.
With or without bread, the sausage fraternity were in the ascendancy.
Performance League
Three weeks gone and the absent Paul Corrigan made his presence felt with a lead based on 241 points, Jane Malyon was second on 163 closely followed by Scott Griffiths on 162.
Education Slot
Catherine Foley is always an appropriate candidate for the Ed Slot and also was so on the money with an explanation as to what employers should be doing and employees expecting with this record-breaking heat. The various options as to how to conduct business for maximum comfort and effectiveness produced a list that Acas would have been proud of and in summary was a suggestion that employers should be sensitive to the needs of their employees in difficult times.
60-Second Presentation Round
Sylvia Neveda was the Oscar holder and this week’s adjudicator. To a background of necessary fan noise, we tried to make ourselves heard. Toby Acton acknowledged that for most of us in this extreme heat you stopped thinking strategically and just dealt with what you had to
Joshua Ayettey has recently had a boost to his business by linking up with a London-based developer. From a more general point of view, he emphasised the strategic nature of the advice he provided with particular reference to planning constraints.
Talking of strategy George felt he had no alternative on behalf of Solitaire to emphasise the availability and the importance of air conditioning, be this for one room or for a whole building.
Shannon Savege was keen to emphasise that interest rates are likely to be going down and was upbeat about the mortgage market generally
Catherine Foley is launching a new venture by looking for retirement communities who might benefit from linking with her over the understanding and appreciation of literature later on in life.
Paul Dulieu rather whimsically was talking of love, loss and new beginnings. It is his currency of course as our resident celebrant.
Terry Malin is still assisting struggling landlords trying to cope with the new Renters Reform Act and particularly those who are trying to issue applications under the old system. He is the go-to person in the changing legal world for landlords.
Scott Griffiths emphasised that scrutiny of our websites is now only 43% human and he is there to help.
Blake Hammond’s message was even simpler he’s here to help with AI and you should come and see him for guidance. It took him only 10 seconds to deliver this message.
The Oscar winner this week however was Sally Waters, back refreshed from her holiday, explaining the extent of her products and the audience she was seeking to reach. Well done, Sally.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Only 9 referrals this week but another £30,000 worth of business recorded which is an excellent recovery from a slow start to the month.
10-Minute Presentation by David Roberts
Dave Roberts of Mercury provided the quiz for us, thereby emphasising the areas of work that he operates in. He has been busy doing testing for lots of us of various of our appliances and Scott Griffiths’ question about battery storage proved a stimulus for many inquiries after his presentation which was not only enjoyable but informative.
And so, as the temperature rose and the sun streamed into our venue we all went on our way with the thought that we might need to conserve our energies during the day if not during the week as the sun beats down upon us. Whatever happens however do not let it stop not only those present today but other members turning up in force next week.
A warm but otherwise brilliant meeting this morning. 2 excellent presentations.
It seemed very appropriate that, as the mercury was rising outside, Dave quizzed us on our mercury knowledge! Love a quiz but clearly my electrical knowledge is dwarfed by my knowledge of Freddie! Lucky we have Dave to keep our homes safe.
Great to see a Mustang and a visitor on the same week! Well done Catherine on a topical ed slot and thanks for the quiz and prize Dave i will put it in the fridge!
