20 members and one visitor, Alex Milham, were gathered together in anticipation of a busy meeting. Ben Golding was in attendance complete with walking stick on his first outing with us after his operation
The Performance League
Third meeting of the month and Melissa Jackson was out front and with a dozen members or so going past our benchmark of points for the month already.
Education Presentation
It was Nick Cooke who delivered this week’s words of wisdom. His subject was Google reviews which he apparently uses to good effect. He encourages satisfied customers to give him these reviews and encouraged us to do likewise. He considered positive reviews being at the heart of winning business.
New Member Induction & Existing Member Renewal
EBF’s birthday is always a time for renewals and Terry Maylin was pleased to announce the applications for and approval of four annual renewals; Vincent Good, Nick Cooke, Howard Bullock and Ben Golding. The news of a renewal to the members is always a source of joy and so we were all quadruply joyous.
The 60 Second Round
Melissa Jackson was the current Oscar holder and was first up so as to give her a clear run at the adjudication. She told us of a client with debt problems that threatened bankruptcy but she guided him to an IVA paying 35p in the £.
Others who told of how they had helped particular clients included Brian Painter who gave confidence to a best man enabling him to deliver a speech and enjoy a free holiday in the Bahamas. Sarah Steele who had produced A webinar this week tackling the management of debts brought about by Christmas credit card overspend. Startling fact of the day ‘ it costs £25 per day to bring up a child’. Terry Maylin had resolved a client’s problems the day before through a mediation where a potentially expensive court case was avoided. Startling statistic of the day ‘Terry has so far presided over 235 mediations, only 10 of which have failed to produce a resolution’.
Of a more general nature were the presentations of James Humphreys who is still looking to hold the hands of builders, scaffolders, roof tilers and the like… be careful what you wish for! Toby Acton aims to take you from where you are now to where you want to be. The alliterative Ben Golding was trying to bolster his bill busting booster and Stuart Smallcombe with his attack on baffling BT
Nick Cooke was extolling the virtues of steel beams that are of prime importance in the taking down of walls and the taking out of chimney breasts and John Hammond who is offering an annual certificate for the automatic doors and gates that he instals.
Paul Booth interested us all with the Side Hustle. If you want a business ‘on the side’ and you have a wife who doesn’t work the company formed by Paul Booth this can be accomplished. Most accomplished however of the day and confirmed thus with the award of the Oscar was Rosemarie Driscoll who showed off the sign that had been made for her by Vincent Goode to advertise her business from her home. Well done Rosemarie, your first Oscar.

10-minute presentation by Mike Skinner
Mike Skinner, video wizard, understandably went to the trouble of setting up a big screen to present what might well be a contender for next year’s annual awards. He used the screen wisely too illustrate the various types of visual presentation that he can produce for you. There’s the walkthrough, the product presentation, the documentary, the still images, the interview, the photo shoot, the product shoot and drones. We should all be able to speak knowledgeably to potential referees….not a bloke with a whistle necessarily!
Referrals and Testimonials Round
Given these statistics shown above the Referrals and Testimonials round was impressive and sent us all out into the world all on upbeat note.
Excellent presentation Mike Skinner and a very good reminder from Nick about the need for plenty of Google reviews. Great to see Ben back and upright again and nice to see a visitor who came all the way from Kent to see what we are all about!
