If you ever want to know what the weather was like on a particular Thursday morning, you only have to search my earlier blogs to discover this. Never one to abandon a tradition I can confirm that it was dark, damp, not unduly cold, but a bit on the miserable side when we kicked off. By contrast the meeting was upbeat, well attended, and unusual to the extent that there was a first with Paul Dulieu making an early exit without being noticed and therefore without the accompanying many and varied ‘Cheerio’s’. His tactic was to make as if he was going to the loo….. What a strategist.
We also had a visitor and were 21 in all.
Performance League
Scott Griffiths was out front with 286 points; there followed Paul Corrigan on 180 and Sarah Smith on 174.
Education Slot
Stuart Smallcombe entertained us with the value or otherwise or ‘freebies’. Everyone enjoys one and it can build goodwill. The trick however is not to do it too often and to make sure that its value is perceived by the recipient. It is meant to be free, not worthless.
60-Second Presentation Round
It was a round that demonstrated the importance of good quality ‘stand-ins’. Terry Maylin stood in for Matt Barry in adjudicating the Oscar award and Paul Dulieu, prior to his departure was time keeper in Ben Golding’s absence.
A sleep deprived Paul Corrigan now has contracts with both Malden and Danbury Councils but still remains able to more than adequately service us ordinary mortals.
Howard Bullock, by virtue of the work that he does, inevitably deals with the upper end of the age demographic. An 83 year old client was gifting his company to his wife who was 15 years his junior and life cover was built into the arrangement. He has solutions for everything!.
Sarah Smith can boast an associate who she can offload on when clients offload on her!
Mike Skinner has a couple of pamphlets; one that tells you how to use your own phone to freshen up your website and another that explains how he can professionally do it…… give with one hand, take away with the other.
Catherine Foley was offering her services to help you add to your website. The writing of blogs for example to help smarten up your own efforts is a good example
Dave Roberts has had a busy beginning to the year. He has been involved in the rewiring of four commercial storage units
Paul Dulieu has only been at it for a year. He has found it however, a year that was both fulfilling and joyful. Well Jane Malyon has found joy in organising gift packages for 11 employees of the month for non-other than McDonald’s. I suppose there is a limit how many big Macs anyone can stomach. She is also doing a deal on jam pots!
Paul Booth reported on the trend that he has observed from his various clients contacts. Female earnings are increasing at a higher rate than their male counterparts. This apocryphal observation Is a warning to us all…… male or female.
As far as the Oscar was concerned, Sally Waters caught Terry’s eye by being both verbally descriptive of her scents and also through samples that she provided, one for each of us.
Meeting Secretaries Report
£6500 worth of business was recorded which when added to the current £42,000.00 produced a good effort thus far with another week to go.
10-Minute Presentation by Leann Reason
Leann Reason of Brooklyn Interiors was this week’s presenter and a very effective presentation it was. She carefully took us through the process that she adopts in dealing with a new client and seeing how she works was both interesting and helpful in helping us assess how we can make referrals or introductions to her. Being aware of the process was both helpful and effective and it is interesting to note the savings that can be made by using her services but more importantly how effective they can be. Why not try her Master Class, tickets go on sale in February.
The meeting felt a lot busier than 21 people today! Fun and frolics as ever and a great presentation from Leann. It’salways interesting seeing how people approach their work and how their talents make it all happen!
Love reading these Blogs Aidan!
Great 10 minutes Leann and thank you for the ed slot Stuart!
Lets hope we see Steven next week!
Despite the gloomy weather outside, the energy inside the room was fantastic. It was a brilliant morning of networking, filled with insightful ed slot from Stuart and a great 10 minutes from Leann. A genuine sense of community makes the early start completely worthwhile.
Love that phrase about our sense of community x
Excellent 10 minutes from Leanne showing the processes that she goes through and demonstrating her expertise. A very relevant and valuable Ed Slot from Stuart and a worth Oscar winner in Sally (who distributed her smells to everyone…!)
