As inauspicious a Thursday as you could imagine. The heat wave continues, the World Cup continues, but not with England in the final. Potentially a day of mourning but everyone was bearing up well, glorious sunshine always uplifts the spirit, and an 18 member turn out made for a good pre meeting networking session. With both Ben Golding and Scott Griffiths absent it was team TM Law in charge on the top table.

Education Slot
It was irresistible, our instruction this week centred round a World Cup metaphor and delivered by Stuart Smallcombe. His theme was based on when things go wrong and the tendency to seek someone to blame other than yourself. This of course regularly happens in business, mistakes are made and it is the successful business owner who takes responsibility and looks positively at how to resolve the ensuing problems that arise. The fact that it was a timely metaphor did not does not mean that it was not both powerful and relevant to us all.
60-Second Presentation Round
Paul Booth standing in for the absent Catherine Foley, last week’s Oscar winner. His theme this week was the importance of dealing with Capital Gains Tax returns and his willingness to receive referrals for just that.
Fresh from a World Cup metaphor Toby Acton was not shy in using a different one. Successful use of a SAT NAV presupposes you know where you are and know where you’re going. The analogy to business and how you can move forward was of course par for the course for our metaphor maestro.
Steve Chilton declared himself to be busy notwithstanding the fact that he regarded the market as being ‘soft’ That’s one way of looking at an economy that in many respects appears stagnant.
Blake Hammond has produced a guidance booklet on AI. It will help, but nothing is as good as engaging his services to give you initial advice on how best to fit AI into your business.
In a world of political tension both in Ukraine and the gulf of Hormuz, Mike Skinner is operating drones in a much more constructive way. Aerial mapping was this week’s pitch. You can’t get the drones high enough to get a shot of your whole site, but he can deal with aerial mapping on a grid basis, and this is a service that is available to businesses that he would like you to look out for.
Paul Corrigan used his 60 seconds constructively notwithstanding his imminent 10-minute presentation. He warned that you should always know where your stopcock is with particular reference to turning it off when you go on holiday, I know where mine is but I don’t turn it off when I go on holiday. Food for thought!
Shannon Savedge also felt the urge to be metaphorical. World Cup metaphorical in fact. It’s a team game and in conjunction with Clara Downton they provide mortgage and associated insurance advice through their team and the experience is all the better for it for their clients.
Silvia Neveda was pitching for carpet cleaning given that it is summer, the windows are open the cleaning process is even more effective when it can dry quickly.
Sally Waters obviously plans ahead in relation to her business. Fortunately, the C word was not present. She however has an autumn master class in October. She showed the sort of items that would be the subject of this class and spoiler alert, Paul Booth was sufficiently impressed to award her the Oscar.
Terry Maylin has had a flood of Settlement Agreements through the door for employees whose contracts are being terminated whether this is by way of redundancy or not. Inevitably uncertainty in the jobs market can have spin-off benefits for TM Law. If anyone is being presented with a Settlement Agreement by their employer they have to get legal advice if they are going to accept it and TM law should be the first name that that comes to your mind when you hear of this.
Paul Dulieu gave us an insight into the world of the celebrant. Not only did he reveal that auntie Jane through her birth certificate should be auntie Lorna but that a celebrant’s failure to make sure of the name that a deceased was known by could lead to puzzlement at the funeral service to say the least. He was followed by aunty Lorna who asked us all to lookout for possible individuals or companies that might wish to acquire the English Cream Tea Company.
A warning from Howard Bullock, that from April there is to be a change in inheritance tax calculations. Pensions are to be included. You should make sure you understand how this works and Howard is the person to go to.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Terry, as Scott’s stand in reported 9 new referrals and £6000 worth of business passed. He also warned us that the paper passing of the referrals rounds was not the end of it. We must make sure we enter up all referrals etc on the website.
10-Minute Presentation by Paul Corrigan
This week was Paul Corrigan’s turn. He treated us, with the aid of the television, to a whistle stop tour of Solitaire Plumbing and Heating. And in doing so was able to not only tell us more about his organisation and the team that he operates but also indicate the areas where he can be of assistance both to members and to their referees. Well presented as always and I do not think anyone thought the worst of him for confirming his guilty pleasure in listening to boy bands of the 90s. He proved it by listing them on his bio sheet

Fantastic write-up! It was another great Thursday meeting despite the summer heat. Huge congrats to Paul for a brilliant 10-minute presentation on Solitaire Plumbing—I don’t think any of us will let you live down the 90s boyband bio sheet, but the expertise really shone through!
