Befitting the approach of the longest day, the journey to and the commencement of our weekly meeting was all done in bright sunshine. Breakfast this week was produced by Paul Booth in conjunction with Greggs and very nice it was too
The Performance League
After one week the leader in the league has hit 101 points. It’s Paul Booth out front, followed by John Hammond and Paul Corrigan
Education Presentation
The Mayor of Gants Hill Village was this week’s presenter and his topic was the memory hook that we should use to sign off at the end of our 60 second presentations. He quoted those who use them back at us, made some largely unhelpful suggestions but threw down the challenge for next week for us all to have a memory tag. His audience were predictable in the extreme. The 60 second round produced several, but of course they do not count as the challenge was for next week. Let’s all try and take that challenge up!
The 60 Second Round
It was a multitasking Terry Maylin who was on adjudication duties this week coupled with his 10 minutes slot due later in the meeting. His theme was the importance of turning work away that is either not entirely suitable or of a type/or client that would be disruptive. Without creating a trend his sentiments were echoed by Howard Bullock later in the round in relation to a client who had consulted him earlier in the week but thought he knew better.
Scott Griffiths was for once an early contributor because he had forgotten to add his name to the members attendance list. His presentation extolled the values of the conversion machine ‘live chat’.
Toby Acton was so successful in presenting his motivational maps to a charity in Harlow that he is now one of it’s trustees. Brian Painter is also good at dealing with phobias and random panic attacks. And that was his theme this week
Nick cook had previously told us off a client who had installed spray foam insulation and was able to update us. They we’re obliged to replace the roof which made his report easier and bold positive.
Vincent Goode irrespective of his theme was able to use his memory hook and of course did so.
Chris de la Prida momentarily transported us to Barcelona with a mid-June deal of £500 per person per night. It left us all dreaming impossible dreams. Blake Hammond piggybacked the holiday theme by drawing our attention to his many and varied camping and outdoor products. Melissa Jackson’s dream, just for once not to have an insolvent client and this is what she got this week. Her client has a company that is solvent but he wants to get his money out and close down the company. She can do this as well!
Paul Corrigan will do a house health assessment through his Heat Plan. If you need to instruct him it might be well worthwhile having it done or just do it any way.
Irony of the week award must go to Jane Malyon who was providing English Cream Teas at the very French sounding conurbation of Theydon Bois, although to be fair the Essex pronunciation is ‘Feydon Boys’.
The award of the Oscar this week was to Stuart Smallcombe with a neat little sales pitch for helping avoid arguments with loyal clients through misunderstandings that can easily be resolved by recording your telephone calls.
Synergy Team Meeting
Despite his exertions in early morning shopping for breakfast, Paul Booth also reported on the ‘business to business’ synergy team meeting held as usual at the George and Dragon in Mountnessing. Any distraction from customers actually drinking and making merry were more than overcome by a very interesting that and entertaining meeting.
10-minute presentation by Terry Maylin
As usual it was a confident exposition of the sorry state of the court process in this country. A headline from the Law Society Gazette described the court system as crumbling. Alternative resolutions are becoming increasingly useful if not necessary. Mediation was Terry’s suggestion for moving forward with disputes of all sorts. Tell your friends about it and steer anyone you can to Terry.
Finally may I lay to rest any suspicion of collusion over my victory in winning the speaker’s prize.
Great meeting as always. Looking forward to the memory hooks themed presentations next week – well done Vince for that useful education.
Excellent presentation by Terry today helping us to understand mediation and the other “tions”.

Great reminded to keep our taglines memorable by Vince and a fantastic 10 minutes by Terry and a reminder that he’s not always the angry attack dog and can nicely mediate too!
