Everything conspired, including covid, to keep many of our members away and the ice on the windscreen of the car was also perhaps a mitigating factor. Nonetheless 15 hardy souls braved the elements eager for breakfast, convivial networking and the meeting itself.
The Performance League
Matt Barry has finally been eclipsed, this month by Neil Bellham who leads after one week with 165 points. Scott Griffiths has 79 points and Ben Golding 42. Let’s see if we can have another record-breaking winner for this month.
Education Presentation
Jane Malyon, back from the frozen wastes of Canada went all inspirational on us “….. will it make the boat go faster?” This was the psychological prompt to a disparate crew of an Olympic 8 that turned them into winners. Before you do anything check on your goals. If you’re an athlete this probably means not going to the pub for the for that pint but electing for the gym. As we look into the New Year such focus can be critical.
The 60 Second Round
Matt Barry stood in for COVID affected Leann Reason in adjudicating this week’s Oscar. Never one to lose sight of his goals, he has been contemplating the prospects for the New Year with his staff. Toby Acton was also in inspirational mode looking to ensure that his clients we’re not losing focus, clarity, and direction in moving their businesses forward this year. When we are talking inspiration, Nick Cooke needs to look no further the well designed steel beam.
Vincent Goode, mindful of the time of year and the effect that short snaps can have on us all, is able to produce Orders of Service for funerals. On a more cheerful level he’s also able to produce something similar but far pleasanter for weddings.
From a good news point of view Brian Painter, after sessions that started in November, is managing to persuade a client of his not to keep ordering indiscriminately from Amazon, whilst Clara Downton reported good news on the mortgage front, with interest rates on two year deals getting as low as 4.17%. Definitely heading in the right direction!
Terry Maylin in has had three new personal injury claims through his doors which is good news for him if less so for the victims. As he described the incidents and the injuries it is clearly easy to find someone worse off than yourself, however difficult your own circumstances might be. It always helps however to have someone who is not only by nature cheerful but also looking sufficiently far forward that spring can seen to be just around the corner. Did you know that the 10th March 2024 is Mothering Sunday. You can do your mum and Jane Malyon a favour by booking up for her Mothering Sunday event.
Matt Barry, in awarding the Oscar, was looking for presentations that showed the individual being willing to provide that extra service and of all the offerings that commended themselves to him he awarded the Oscar to Terry Maylin.
This weeks statistics and points of note
Scott Griffiths reminded us of the upcoming annual awards and that he would be circulating details for us all to consider our choices as we approach our year end
Synergy Team Meeting
First of the year was on Tuesday with Paul Booth’s finance team meeting kicking things off. Watch out for next month when we have our belated Christmas dinner.
10-minute presentation by Matt Barry
Matt Barry was this week’s presenter and his presentation was a very effective demonstration of how you can use a screen positively in order to enhance your presentation rather than just repeating your words in writing on the screen. His business ethos, expertise and variety came across very effectively; a jewel in our crown.
