Chairmans Business Networking Blog, Tuesday 11th November 2014.
12 present plus Philip Regan from Kelly’s Turkeys. Apologies received from missing members.
It was Hugo Heij’s first solo flight as Education and Development Officer and he opened with the memorable line “people buy people”. As to be expected, a well structured presentation which bodes well for the future. Before Hugo started a 1 minute silence was observed. Not only did it not dampen the exuberance of Hugo, enthusiasm carried over into the 60 seconds round.
Jim Henshaw was talking share protection; Richard Willis penguins; Robert Osborne asked us to check our current mortgage deals; and Chris Adams was talking IT strategy planning and more attractively 10% discounts on work up to Christmas.
Lewis Hackney was undercutting his rivals by quoting £3,000 as compared to £12,500; Ian Nicholson was up for the importance of reviewing your investments and Paul Lefever was talking spot lights.
It was only when we reached Christine Arnold that themes stated emerging. She talked about pads and enviro management; Hugo Heij was talking about managing your life, not just planning holidays but your business etc. and Dr Deb talked about night pads and also cleaning paws. From paws to payroll and the round was nearly over. We could have done with Brian Painter and a good dose of poison. Christine won the Oscar largely based upon her accreditations for enviro management or was it the pads?
So what was new this week…well Jim Henshaw was new or at least his new to his role as Recruitment Officer. Now there’s something else for him to remember when he stands up and introduces himself as part of the leadership team. He is however an excellent selection for doing the job of kicking us all into approaching the attraction of visitors and new members as an ongoing obligation. Like the turkeys that Philip Regan was talking about, visitors are not just for Christmas. Hopefully with Jim’s cajoling and guidance we will get our membership numbers up. Anyway he now has a new place in the agenda and we should all respond to what undoubtedly will be his urgings.
It was Ian Nicholson’s turn to present his business in the 10 minute slot. Well prepared, he produced a questionnaire which took us through various financial issues. Not only did it inform us on specific bits of information but it gave us a very good idea of the areas where Ian can be used for referrals. You are all advised to turn up next week to support Ian as he chairs the meeting as guest Chairman for the first time.
The referrals round continues to produce reasonable numbers of referrals. I just look forward to a successful November.
Don’t respond to all my urgings – you can arrested for some of them………. ooh matron!
Sounds like an interesting meeting. It was axiomatic that Hugo would give an excellent Ed Slot. (Another new word for you,Hugo!)
I look forward to seeing Ian in the chair next week.
Obviously it would have been nice to have had a few more members present…but the meeting was enjoyable as always…..and at least I haven’t got to do the 10 minutes slot again for a while :o). I think credit must go to Dr Deb for not only inviting along Philip….but also for putting the rest of us to shame with the number of referrals she gave!…if we all looked to try to do at least 1 a week the effect would be astonishing!
Looking forward to Chairing next week….I will aim to do the job justice….though bribes for allowing more than 60 seconds are appreciated!!
Have a great week and see you bright and early Tuesday
Ian
An enjoyable meeting as always, did anyone notice if Aidan’s moustache had appeared yet lol ?
It flourishes, just you wait ’til next week.
Aidan, I’ve got some MIracle Grow in my shed you can borrow. It’s for plants but it’s worth a try!
