Chairman’s Business networking Blog, Tuesday 21st October 2014.
13 present in all.
Nige Kirby’s Ed Slot was on EBF etiquette and listed things too numerous to mention but important to remember. The heart of our networking group is to support one another.
Dr Deb was awarding the Oscar and found themes which was more than I did!
I did however find food for thought, if not indeed irreverent thoughts. Debra herself is looking for people with hair and skin in various countries other than the UK. First on the list was America. I was reminded of the film Deliverance…they all had hair and skin but you couldn’t see their eyes properly. She should be careful who she sells her products to. Before my mind dwelled too long on the problems if inbreeding I was dragged out of my dream state by Christine and her Christmas Calendars. It does seem that I should try and enter into the spirit of things. I appreciate that many of our members rely on Christmas to boost their business transactions. Maybe I should simply limit myself to explaining that Christmas time is a time of danger in the home, danger on the roads and various other risks that make a Will essential. Don’t be part of the 60%. Contacting me to prepare a Will; however this would involve a certain amount of planning and that is what Ian Nicholson was advocating. As he sat sunning himself in Mauritius he remained conscious of the need to put something aside for a raining day, or even perhaps a sunny holiday.
Chris Vernon seemed intent to pour water onto people’s dreams. Don’t expect to order a kitchen from him over night and have him start the next day. But Chris…there are two of you!!
Jim Henshaw railed against the banks and other larger institutions and Brian Painter advanced the view that stress was only a matter of personal perception i.e. pressure you can’t handle. What you need is the relaxing cigarette!!
I wasn’t intending to mention everybody but remembering Chris Vernon’s unwillingness to behave like Superman with regard to fitting kitchens, Nigel declared himself not very keen on bathrooms. His face lit up however when he described dealing with poor pressure in a house and a home booster kit. Amazing what makes some people smile.
Quiz of the week, who won the Oscar? Please provide your answers in the comment spaces below this Blog.
So what about the 10 minute slot. It was Jim Henshaw’s turn and it was with impressive confidence that he strode to the television, opened his laptop, pressed a few keys and looked all set to go…and nothing happened. Undeterred and with agility and flair both Hugo Heij and Richard Willis leaped to his assistance and before you could say “protection insurance” he was plugged into the TV and the presentation was under way.
This 10 minute presentation was a get to know you rather than a “sales pitch”.. Gentleman Jim Henshaw was seen in the boxing ring wearing a rather nifty pair of silk shorts, “Ali-like” leaning back to avoid a punch thrown by some uncultured oaf. We also had pictures of him standing on a chair and trying to rush someone to hospital…or was it helping them leave. Anyway he rescued triumph from the jaws of defeat by giving us an insight into how he had found himself in front of such a cultured audience. Well done Jim, a triumph over technology that has hitherto eluded the likes of myself and Brian Painter, and probably always will.
It was not a bad referrals round either for our slightly reduced numbers.
May I issue a challenge for this week? Would you all try to make contact with one person who might be interested in becoming a member and issue an invite from the EBF website. Nige Kirby did it last week and launched himself up the performance league for this month.
Until next week…
I wasn’t the ugly bloke taking the punch – I was the handsome one throwing it. Glad you liked my silk shorts – I bet you say that to all the boys!
Another good blog, it made the meeting sound really interesting! Robert Osborne won the Oscar, mortgages for me are a thing of the past, but I remember struggling when interest rates rose. Good insight in to Jim’s “this is your life” type of 10 mins. I was expecting “and now, someone you met whilst you were a young police officer and haven’t seen for 30 years………………”
Do you still make use of the handcuffs?
Thanks for the blog Aidan, you forgot about the way I tested Debras new shower!
It was indeed Robert who won the Oscar… We were awake – just!
Christmas is inevitable… love it or hate it – it’s coming Aidan!
I much prefer Halloween… What are you all doing this Halloween? I will be going to a party dressed as a zombie/possessed Nun LOL – I’ll share the pics on Facebook with you once all made-up… Have a good week everyone….
MWAHAAHAHAHAHAAH
It definitely was the friendly bubbly mortgage chappy who won the Oscar – well done Robert!
Another good blog Aidan but yes you forgot Nige’s shower antics – strange I think of Nige every time I turn the shower knob!
Will miss you all next week whilst I’m in EuroDisney – have a great meeting!
