Chairman’s Business Networking Blog, Tuesday 14th October 2014
13 present in all including Peter Wild, Santander Local Business Manager.
Billy Foxwell was substituting for Hugo Heij and whilst the numbers were disappointing I was pleased to note that there were seven apologies for absence.
The 60 second round had one or two little gems…
Chris Vernon emphasised the value of coming to him rather than B & Q which included ensuring that you did not get a wall unit with legs. The message!…big suppliers make more mistakes. I thought it was B & Q being rather flexible, but probably not.
Dr. Deb was full of energy as usual. It probably means she was taking her own pomegranate with 8 vitamins energy fizz stick. I am about to try my sample but I am going to finish doing this Blog before I do so in case it leads erratic behaviour. She crammed lots of things into her 60 seconds. She mentioned the C word or rather alluded to it, produced her Festive Offering Booklet, but most importantly for the blokes, offered to wrap the gifts as part of the service. That plus a 20% discount was enough to leave you breathless.
Nige Kirby followed and brought out his “Gas Bag”. Out of it he pulled a U gage, a gas analyser and a rather curious probe which looked dangerous. Things with knobs on seem to be good for gas leaks.
Robert Osborne warned of changing mortgage market and suggested the time was right to get a good deal on a remortgage with a 3 to 5 year fixed term.
Ian Stanley will help you with storage, whether you are moving or not….. and brings the storage solution to you. Still on the theme of housing…or rather gardens, Paul Lefever warned of another danger, for gardeners, the power tool. Apparently standing in our garden we might have no earth…look what decking does for a garden! Anyway RCD is the name of the game if you want to save yourself from an unpleasant death at the hand of your electrical tool.
Plenty to think about, but Billy Foxwell, who was awarding the Oscar had no doubt that Dr Deb’s wares as advertised by her in her 60 seconds left us all standing and quite rightly awarded her the Oscar.
Richard Willis had the benefit of the 10 minute presentation and showed us all how to overcome adversity. He couldn’t get himself plugged into the television so he emailed his presentation to all of those will tablets and other visual electronic devices, which we all looked at whilst he gave an excellent presentation. As usual his assured performance showed a confidence that filters though to us members. We should feel confident to recommend him whenever we get the opportunity.
So far as the business of the group is concerned, as referrals continue to rise our small turnout put a slight break on this, but it was nice to see recorded business for last month reaching the £5,000 mark. Remember, we have a scheme to record monies received from jobs completed as we are the referral slips so make sure you put them in.
Let’s see if next week we can have a good attendance, lots of referrals and business recorded.
Well done Aidan – full of humour and an accurate account as always – think you’ll need the energy boost after this!
