Chairman’s Blog – Thursday 12th March 2012
27 present including Mark & Ian Buckley from JJB Electrical. They are completing an application form. We also managed to get one of them up a ladder when the projector could not be made to work. Apparently the projector wasn’t connected up but if their electrical skills match their agility they will be a useful addition to the meeting.
Apologies for absence were received from those who were not with us. Of those missing was Graham Thurston whose absence was based upon ill health, namely an approaching operation. Best wishes for a successful operation and a speedy recovery Graham. If you can work up the energy let us know you are out there with an comment to this Blog. We all look forward to seeing you back in action as soon as possible.
The Education slot was the second part of David Plumley’s theme of procrastination. The suggestion is that you should identify all matters that are being delayed and task yourself to deal with them by allocating specific times. I cannot let you into the secret of exactly how much more information David is to impart on the question of procrastination as he has put off the final part of, what can only be described as a thesis, to yet another meeting sometime in the future.
Thief of time or what…?!!
The meeting was dominated by Jason’s shirt which he likened to a monopoly board. Wonderful colours, beautifully cut but one could not help but feel it bore greater similarity to extracts from the matrix trilogy like that net thing that appears when a bullet if fired at Keanu Reeves
And so the 60 second round unravelled. Richard Reed confessed to not being able to price match a French Wedding where the guest travelled on four different flights and stayed in a YMCA . I suspect it was hard to find accommodation that would accept people wearing hard hats, a Stetsons or full Indian headdress.
It was not just Richard Reed who had been unable to fully satisfy a potential client’s needs. Jamie Harrison gave us 5 examples of sources of energy that at a stroke could resolve all the planets energy problems, let alone her customers. None of these items seemed to be products that Carmichael-Browns offer. Oh well, we can all dream!
Someone else in denial was Richard Fincken who acknowledged the popular misconception that Insolvency Practitioners were akin to profession undertakers. Chris Holmes claimed to be related to Sherlock of the same name.
Adrian Crossdale (hereafter to be known as AC/DC – don’t worry it’s a rock band Adrian) was asking for an introduction to Greggs Bakery. I hope you get a referral and if you do, supply them with lights but don’t touch the pastry.
I was thinking that we would not get our shot of whimsy this week but Chris Sadler duly obliged. He has been superimposing a clients head on a body that would help illustrate the potential effects cosmetic surgery. I assume he therefore he not only photographed the head of his lady client but also somebody else’s. Whose body it was he did not expand upon but presumably it was someone who had already had a “boob job”. Nice work if you can get it… If Chris’s 60 seconds seemed slightly bizarre, any reader of this Blog who did not attend the meeting will not be surprised to learn that he was only outdone by the returning Brian Painter. Looking resplendent in a sun tan that could have graced the set of “TOWIE”, Brian gave us a passable imitation of Marcel Marceau. No words, merely gestures that some of us guessed was an aeroplane crashing, passengers disembarking, swimming for their lives and finally sinking to their deaths. Yes folks…his powers extend to curing people from their fear of flying. His performance was also capable of curing anyone with a fear of public speaking, although as he acted out the scenario of someone trying to blow up a life jacket, failing and then sinking beneath the waves made us all feel that his return was our loss and Tenerife’s gain. Of course he won the Oscar.
Neil Lewer was down for the 10 minute slot. Because the projector was down as described above he was left to illustrate his presentation from his lap top. He adequately demonstrated that you don’t necessarily need visuals if you know what you are doing and do it well, the upshot of both the description of what he did, how he did it. All of which was confirmed by his fellow members by their testimonials in the referrals round. One thing I did not know however, that if you have bought a kitchen he will provide a fitting service only. One thing is for sure, we can refer him confident of the quality that his work will produce.
Immediately before the 10 minute slot Paul Booth reported on the Finance/Professions Power Group who met on Tuesday of this week. There were 12 in attendance including 2 outside members. It was a very successful meeting and followed on from the previous month’s meeting when 10 were in attendance. This is a well organised and very effective Power Group.
As to the numbers, £18,000 of recorded business, a great start to the month following on from last month’s figures. No, I am not going to tell you what they were last week, look back at my Blog.
Finally, may I remind you all to respond to the emails you have received regarding 2 possible social events, the river boat trip and the visit to RHS Wisley.
I felt uplifted by this week’s meeting only partly due to the fact that we arrived in daylight and it was a bright sunny day, I hope this will be repeated next week when I hope to see you all again together with more of you who were not there this week.
After about 4 hours sleep I arrived bleary-eyed … but left with a spring in my step, even if still very tired. A great meeting … humorous yet productive.
It was grand to be back, swopping sunshine for snow and ice! The meeting made it worthwhile, good as usual, good business and entertaining. Just one blip, we were denied seeing Neal’s creative work.
I spoke with Warley Park about the projector issue, and they have apologised for the mistake. They are actually in the process up upgrading and moving the projector to a better location, and their engineer simply forgot that we were there! We’ll give Neal another turn to present his business again shortly so that we can all see the quality of his work on the big screen.
Well done Neal on an excellent presentation even without the projector. It’s a useful lesson for us all to always have a backup plan.
I can confirm that we have received the membership application form from Mark Buckley so well done to Kevin Brooks for inviting them.
Neal is a person who truly loves his work and provides an excellent job, a real craftsman.
Great meeting again guys & gals with much business done.
Great meeting and David, you were glowing as always. Almost as much as Brian…….
Mr Blogger! Tut tut. Three out of five ain’t bad……we offer technologies for the sun, wind and biomass……….we can I’m afraid, provide sun on demand yet though. Now there’s an idea!
^ should say ‘Can’t provide sun’!
Haha
