This week we were 21 in number, all members. Unfortunately, our networking prior to the start of the meeting was a twilight event. We did have sunshine however when the meeting finally kicked off.
Performance League
Paul Dulieu was out front after one week with 90 points, he was followed by Catherine Foley and Sally Waters. Well done Sally for being in the top three for the first time.
Education Slot
Although Scott Griffiths sat down after delivering the performance league details, he was quickly on his feet again with an education slot that was a more detailed introduction to the members of his very excellent revised website, hopefully now that you have all logged in and started using it. It is worth a browse in any event. It is at the very heart of our organisation, a window on the world but also opportunity to interact effectively and help provide the background statistics to our weekly endeavours. Thanks must go to Scott for not only his efforts in producing the revised website but also taking us through it.
Membership Matters
Currently there are three renewals before the membership committee and Terry Maylin was able to report Joshua Ayettey’s completed renewal. After one year Joshua is now able to apply for the mark of excellence which Terry encouraged him to do.
60-Second Presentation Round
Catherine Foley was this week’s judge and jury for the Oscar and pleasingly she declared herself busy.
Our first two presenters claim to be in love. Paul Corrigan with boilers, because they earn him money and Clara Downton with mortgages, because they also earn her money. Both of them demonstrate their love; because Paul is good at installing them and Clara in arranging them. Much later in the round I also declared my love for the Employment Rights Bill which is currently dragging its way through the parliamentary process and which is creating a lot of uncertainty whilst we’ll wait it’s potentially ground breaking changes in Employment Law. I love it because it gives me an opportunity to provide good advice to companies who are wanting to press ahead with their development but who are equally concerned about the potential restraints that might be imposed upon them in 2026.
Whether or not Joshua Ayettey is in love with loft spaces is not clear but he can certainly help homeowners increase their living space and the value of their property. You do need 2.8 metres headroom however if you are considering this course of action.
Talking about love affairs coma Matt Barry was able to pursue his love of rugby…. and Guinness, through a client who is looking to promote itself through Ulster Rugby. He is of course looking for any other companies that want to be linked with Rugby Union.
Toby Acton went all the way to Nottingham to deliver a presentation that he thought was a disaster only to receive and immediate referral arising from his presentation. It is always satisfying to have an immediate result for any type of networking presentation that you give.
Nobody could possibly accuse Toby Acton of practising the dark arts but Sally Waters was definitely promoting her white labelling packaging and even produced examples of customers who used these services. Something to be borne in mind when we are looking for referrals for her.
John Hammond was showing off his access control devices for the systems that he installs. Blake Hammond was far less subtle. He declared that Christmas was coming, declared that he produced all sorts of things that were suitable for Christmas presents or celebrations and invited us to look on his website
Terry Maylin produced as a subject matter for his 60 seconds the way in which he can maximise claims where money is owed on commercial transactions by being aware of the interest and compensation that can be obtained for delayed payments.
Two members were able to emphasise the importance of ‘words’ to their businesses. Paul Dulieu quoted Rudyard Kipling. ‘Words’ were considered by the man who particularly liked the word ‘If’ to be the strongest drug and are at the heart of Pauls profession as a Celebrant and Scott Griffiths recognised their importance for designing your websites with dedicated content.
I round up my selection of presentations with Jane Malyon’s warning that we should be aware of impostors. The Savoy no less produced a scone that our English Cream Tea gnome discovered via dissection, to have chocolatey bits on the outside side but inside sponge cake…. Yes, sponge cake, what more can I say!
Synergy Team Report
Paul Booth reported on the finance and professions group meeting on Tuesday where there was a further discussion about AI. Leon reason also advertised her property groups meeting after we had had finished today.
10-Minute Presentation by Mike Skinner
Nobody was in any doubt, from when they stepped into the venue, whose 10 minutes they were going to hear today. Mike Skinner had set himself up comprehensively to demonstrate his portrait photography. He sensibly did not use Paul Booth as the customary stooge but bravely Jane Malyon offered herself as a sitter for this photography session. If she hadn’t, undoubtedly her adoring fans would have cause trouble. She bravely suffered the indignities of various types of lighting effects in a womanful manner. A great advertisement by Mike of his craft as part of his overall package of skills. There is no better tribute to a 10 minute presentation then the promise of an immediate referral arising from it. The referrals and testimonials round earned him one through Toby Acton.
What a great meeting!
