it was bright and sunny as we all assembled… but blustery as it should be on general Election Day. As if mindful of the urgings for us all to turn up and vote, 24 members turned up to network. This was further supplemented by a visiting osteopath.
The Performance League
The end of June had passed and this our first meeting in July enabled us to have the figures for June. Five members were over 200 points with Scott Griffiths out front on 293 points followed by Terry Maylin and Toby Acton.
Education Presentation
Since we last saw him Neil Bellham had been to and from New York and whilst there had treated himself to a vivid green shirt which seemed to encourage positivity in both him and his message. In this particular instance the message effectively amounted to distilled rules for life.
- don’t be afraid to spend money.
- don’t look for your partner as Mr or Mrs Right but make sure that you are Mr or Mrs Right.
- 90% of success in life is turning up. EBF members particularly note.
- conflict is inevitable so learn to cope with it
- the road to success is consistency of approach.
We could have all packed up and gone home at that stage because we had enough information to cope with our lives going forward. We didn’t however, the meeting continued as usual but we were all a little wiser.
New Member Induction & Existing Member Renewal
Terry Maylin was able to report the fourth of the recent renewals, Matt Barry had been received and he is now renewed. It is worth acknowledging that a renewal is as equally important a cause for celebration as is a new member joining. The ongoing commitment of members to the group is at the heart of our success and survival. Welcome to all renewed members for the month of June.
The 60 Second Round
Toby Acton was judging and declared that he was having a day off. He has employee status with a bank and they had written to him to confirm that he should make sure he took his one day entitlement for annual leave. It is encouraging that he did not go the whole hog and have a lie in. John Hammond this week has also not been having a lie in. He spent two days in Jersey, a day in Belgium and two days in Amsterdam. A true European. It was also perhaps appropriate that he should be followed by Chris de la Prida who was highlighting a cruise, all inclusive, for £959 per person. There does seem to be a risk that if Chris keeps bombarding us with such good offers he will severely deplete the room on Thursday mornings.
Brian Painter, supporter of the anxious, had a lady with IBS who was fine when she was at home with no competition for the loo but at work with one toilet between staff members she was finding it difficult to cope. We should be confident that Brian will enable her to come to terms with her work stresses.
James Humphries warned property owners to look carefully at their property portfolios. Boundaries have been redrawn in the insurance industry relating to environmental risks and splitting your insurances to reflect this might well be beneficial.
Vincent Goode was in praise of the humble notepad suitably emblazoned with your details as an advertising tool as well as being useful for jotting things down on.
The amazing disappearing man, Ben Golding might well have more weight to lose in his recovery from his recent operation. ‘Ben Ben Thin’ is his new designation but he was nonetheless in full throttle in praise of Utility Warehouse. Clara Downton was in praise of the value of equity release to help fund your retirement. She is recently approved an arrangement that will give initial cash to the house owners with reserves available to be drawn down later.
Blake Hammond was very much pressing his camping equipment upon us but a sideline in 50p gliders gave us all an opportunity to boost the referrals for the week and give Blake some pocket money.
If you are worried about the cost of litigation Terry Maylin was able to point to two clients this week who are going to look to mediation as a method of resolving their litigious issues. If that is reassuring to those of us embroiled in litigation then Howard Bullock was also reassuring on this general Election Day that the likely Labour victory was not likely to have an adverse effect on our pensions, at least for their first term. This was not however intended to be offered up as firm pension advice. With the election in mind he was followed by Jane Malyon who produced an Oscar winning performance with her description of her product with reference to all of the parties competing for our votes today! A great exposition Jane.
This weeks statistics and points of note
Today’s figures looked very healthy. In excess of £17,000 worth of business recorded and 18 referrals. It was a fitting introduction to the 10 minutes that would follow.
10-minute presentation by Scott Griffiths
We were treated to what was effectively a second education presentation regarding Google and how we should approach websites, those of others and indeed our own to good effect. He gave us very useful tips as to how to use Google, how to create content and how to search website owners. There was something there for everyone and it was a very effective 10 minutes that helped advance his business without being client specific.
This week was a good example of how effective we can be in our meetings when we have a very good turnout. You are reminded however that with the holiday season approaching every effort to attend should be made and the generation of business for each other paramount.

Fine work from Neil and his 5 point life improvement strategy. Inspiring stuff indeed. And thank you Scott for delivering a very informative 10 minute presentation. Can’t think of anyone else to thank, so I won’t. See you next week where we can discuss how much we are looking forward to watching England in the Final….
Full respect, man, to Neil for his 5 point message, to Auntie Jane for her witty political message (couldn’t tell who she was voting for) and to Scott for his presentation, I always learn something useful, this time it was the minus sign. Would be useful if Tom the chiropractor became a member. Sort out my back and knee!
