The first week of October and a Greggs breakfast day, neither of which was a reason not to be cheerful and despite various absences we mustered 21 members. Another reason to be cheerful was that today is the birthday of our Education and Development Officer. He has managed to defy the odds of wing walking to reach this year’s anniversary.
Performance League
September’s results were confirmed with Scott Griffiths the winner over Leann Reason, the difference being a poker night that he organised. Remember, use our Social Secretary to organise any social events that can also win you points.
Education Slot
Our birthday boy excelled himself with an invocation to us all to embrace our 10 minutes presentations. Don’t let a fear of public speaking get in the way of an opportunity to explain to members your specific goals and what represents a good referral for you. It is in some ways easier than the 60 second presentation in that it gives more time to set your credentials before the members at a meeting. He gave a few hints on presentation; slow down and make eye contact, but don’t eyeball. A recipe for life perhaps!
Membership Matters
Terry Maylin reported that there were three renewals in the pipeline which were being considered by the membership committee. He will be reporting on the outcome of these, probably at the next meeting.
60-Second Presentation Round
Matt Barry was adjudicator this week and his presentation spoke of the dark arts surrounding social media. He can give advice as to how to send out your message, the proper context for it and the platform that you should use. What more could you want!
Paul Corrigan, anticipating the onset of winter, urged that we checked out our thermostats and consulted with him as to the most effective format for this. He was followed by Taffy Martin reminding us of her furniture removal business and Joshua Ayettey reminding us so how he can unlock the potential in your property.
Blake Hammond ignored Christmas and concentrated on Halloween. Flash bangs and other items for example but you should really check with him as to what he can do to make life scary for the kids.
Mike Skinner, always trying to highlight the benefits of video, picked on a particular software package which, started out its presentation with a video that answered the inevitable question of who they are and what they did. This is what he can do for you as well. There is no doubt as to what Ben Golding can do, in times of rising energy pricing Utility Warehouse offers current fixed rates which can make your life easier as well as all of the other benefits he frequently impresses upon us.
Certain of the members today were looking to try and de-stress us with regard to the services that they can offer. Clara Downton suggested that she could do this with regard to the mortgaging process, Leann Reason, interior redesigning of your home and Sarah Smith, the running of your business.
We all know what John Hammond does, but once again his message was similar to other weeks and can be best summed up with the words, ‘we do it right’.
Clara, Leann, and Sarah all offered their services as a way of de-stressing. The ultimate however was from Catherine Foley, it is international poetry day and she read a poem to us which helped illustrate the importance of poetry when read out loud and in doing so and the reward of the Oscar.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Our first meeting of October produced 16 referrals and £8000 worth of business recorded. Other good news to start off the month was the announcement that the EBF Arboretum now has 300+ trees within its boundaries. Members are encouraged to add to that going forward. Also, Scott urged us to put forward any offers that we have to members on the website.
10-Minute Presentation by Paul Dulieu
It was the turn of our resident Celebrant, Paul Dulieu to describe to us a successful marriage celebration over which he had officiated.
First however may I congratulate him on using his 60 seconds to the full despite also having the 10 minute opportunity. We don’t all always do this and we should treasure the opportunities that we have every week to the group and not surrender any time that is available to us.
He went on in his 10 minute session to elaborate on his role as a Celebrant at the marriage ceremony. He demonstrated his sensitive but effective approach. He described himself, in exercising his skills as a Celebrant both at funerals and weddings as being in the role of a storyteller. I can certainly bare testament to his sensitive style as could others and it was a very successful presentation.
What a great presentation from Paul D, really showed us what he is about and why he does it.
Thanks for the Ed slot Ben – you are right there is nothing to be worried about when doing the 10 minute presentation – it’s much harder doing a 60 second presentation!
Fabulous presentation today from Paul about his business, and a great Education slot from Ben too. Thoroughly enjoyed this morning’s meeting as always.
What a great way to start my 29th birthday celebrations!! Excellent 10 minutes from Paul – if I ever get married you’ll be the one in charge!!! Also thanks to Paul B for making sure we all got fed!!!
Happy 29th mate…. Looking well for your age!
Another great meeting. Thank you Ben for your ed-slot. I am in that number of people who hate standing up and giving a presentation, 60 seconds or 10 minutes – although get me talking to someone about interior design and I probably won’t shut up for hours!!
Fab 10 minutes Paul D. I could listen to you for ages. It was so lovely to hear about how you made someone’s wedding day even more special with your words.
Thanks Scott for knocking me off the leader board – just by holding a poker night!
See you all next week!
You were robbed Leann! 😀
Thank you all for your kind words following my 10-minute presentation. I hope I managed to put Ben Ben’s excellent education slot advice into practice! Another great meeting, as always
Great meeting with two fantastic speakers! Well done, Paul for what sounds like an amazing first wedding and happy birthday, Ben!
Great meeting today! Really enjoyed Paul D’s 10 mins, could listen to him for hours! Love how he has mastered the one hand book hold also!
Great presentation Paul, youre a natural at the role and will no doubt excel!
Happy birthday Ben and an on point ed slot as ever, and a fun meeting all round!
Paul’s segment was a great ten minutes, and Ben’s ED slot’ was excellent.I think the video subtitles have been hitting the sauce again. They’re more dyslexic than I am!
Yikes!
Great presentation from Paul D and an informative education slot delivered by Ben.
As Ben rightly mentioned the 10 minute presentation is a great way for members to communicate what their business is about and provide referral opportunities.
Three speeches of note – Catherine’s was terrific….Ben Ben the Birthday Boy was inspirational and Paul’s was very heartfelt and informative. I thought the copy of the day’s words that he leaves with the Bride/Groom or bereaved, was amazing. 😀
