Paul Booth explained how we can find him new clients, and Ben Golding compared effective networking with the effective running of a business

It was approaching 6.45am before daylight forced itself upon us. Two visitors this week, one of whom deals coffee and provided us supplementary drinks with the explanation that they contained , amongst other things, notes of cinnamon…… which they did.

Three weeks in with 4 members over 200 points and with Leann Reason being the leader on 286

Education Slot

The always well-prepared, Ben Golding was responsible for today’s offering. He compared effective networking with the effective running of a business. Both need consistency of approach and  gradual building up. The building of relationships is essential to obtaining best results.

60-Second Presentation Round

Jane Malyon was last week’s winner and Oscar adjudicator.

Matt Barry held a Macmillan cake get together and paid the price of not advocating sufficiently enthusiastically his wife’s baking efforts. The lesson is that deprecation is only acceptable if it is self-deprecation

Toby Acton was very un-Toby Acton like, not for suggesting that a business plan should be uncomplicated and able to fit on a single page, but managing to deliver his 60 seconds without a metaphor

I know it’s getting slightly darker in the mornings, but this should not be used as an encouragement for raising Christmas before September is out. Ben Golding and Sally Waters both did. Ben in relation to the cost of Christmas shopping and the benefits of the cash back Utility Warehouse card and Sally in relation to her monthly Subs scheme aims primarily at the festive season.

Cyber-attacks are in the news and Stuart Smallcombe was at pains to point out these are not confined to big companies end that he can give useful guidance on this aspect of our businesses. James Humphries is also able to provide insurance full such attacks.

Leann Reason drew our attention this week to Home Offices. They can be stylish as well as functional but as a user of a Home Office it would not stop me making a mess, I suspect others are more disciplined.

The Oscar this week went to Matt Barry, I suspect, because of his reference to cakes. Jane is into that sort of thing as we all well know…..

Meeting Secretaries Report

15 referrals this week but more importantly, as these will have to be logged on to the new website Scott was anxious that we all log on and record. He outed certain members who have not yet gone onto it, all bar one of whom were notable through their absence. Check it out everyone.

10-Minute Presentation by Paul Booth

This week was the turn of our resident accountants, Paul Booth who went back to basics.

The 10 minute presentation is intended to be a more detailed chance for all of us to instruct fellow members of the referrals they are looking for. Paul did just that effectively setting out all of his areas of expertise.

He was rewarded with a selection of questions most of which were sensible. It goes without saying that we can, and should, feel confident in making referrals to him.

Referrals and Testimonials Round

The meeting was rounded off by a lively Referrals and Testimonials round and the anticipation that next week we can hope for an even bigger turn out.

Great meeting this morning, thanks for your 10 minutes Paul, and for the ed slot Ben.
I’ll never get bored of saying: “consistency is everything”!
I guess unless you are doing something consistently badly….

Really lovely visitors, and Connor’s coffee was honestly delicious!

Interesting and informative presentation from Paul about how to get him referrals and a great ed slot from Ben – always reassuring to be told that being consistent and reliable is preferable to constant change! Very happy to be returning home with a lovely bottle of red!
