Glorious sunshine greeted us with the prospect of a hot day if not a hot meeting. The response to this prospect resulted in Scott Griffiths, Terry Maylin, Ben Golding and Vincent Goode revealing knees and in some cases ankles with an array of shorts on display; by contrast Stuart Smallcombe and myself wore jackets…… and trousers of course!!
A good turnout had nineteen of us ready and willing to go at 7:10 AM. Recent absences from meetings of our Pilgrim where explained by an e-mail from Brian to Scott which indicated that he had a knee injury that was keeping him away and a clear indication that he had not been “captured by the Grim Reaper”. Much cause for rejoicing and anticipation that we will see him back in action soon.
The Performance League
Six members have already topped the 100 point mark with joint leaders on 125 points being Terry Maylin and Paul Booth.
Education Presentation
Scott Griffiths got us all using our mobile phones to run through the process of recording referrals on the website. It is hoped that this was not a revelation to too many members and it is further hoped that this will stimulate the recording process of the data we require to record referrals and thanks for the money. Thanks to Scott for his continuing patience.
New Member Induction & Existing Member Renewal
Paul Rogers, who has taken up the commercial lending seat, was duly inducted, received his bag and book, and can now be regarded as fully fledged. Welcome Paul! We now have two Mikes and two Pauls. It is not necessary to ensure that future male members carry these particular monikers but if you can arrange for others I will welcome the confusion that it will create.
The 60 Second Round
We might all have been forgiven for thinking that today was to be the Scott Griffiths show. As the current holder of the Oscar he combined his adjudication tasks with kicking the round off. He reminded us that a very simple referral to him was a referral to make somebody’s e-mail address more businesslike.
Melissa Jackson revealed a collaboration with Terry Maylin for a client of Terry’s. This proved very successful and hopefully can form the basis of future collaborations between the two.
Ben Golding had an urgent business related zoom call which enabled him to reveal Utility Warehouse adding to the bargain boosting busts with a new fixed rate price £100 below the competition. He was followed immediately by Mike Skinner who produced the quote of the day, ”my business does the business” for all video content that you might need for your website or otherwise. It obviously caught Scott Griffiths imagination too, because this finished up as the Oscar winning contribution to the 60 second round.
Nick Cooke is often consulted in relation to structural alterations and there are apparently 5 questions that should be asked about any potential client for such services. They’re all based on the fact that most of his punters have no experience with alterations whatsoever. Anyone who is both intrigued and looking to alter should I ask Nick. Any explanation of the five questions would only detract from the impact of his advice.
The main reason why you need Toby Acton to advise a business owner is that most of us are very good at what we do but as to the managing of the business, is not the case.
Fran Brabham Neil has to cope with unhappy landlords; John Hammond with unhappy clients who have not originally instructed him in the installation of security items such as CCTV.
Stuart Smallcombe, who by now had taken off his jacket, could have been mistaken for a dietitian in this 60 second presentation. There’s no lack of fibre, fibre is available but whether you use public or private fibre might be relevant in the quality that you receive.
As the round continued Howard Bullock adopted his usual stance, behind Paul Booth massaging his shoulders. More importantly he had helped a client reorganise his pension arrangements to make the most of a changed situation. Jane Malyon is with us this week but guess what, she is changing her situation by being on holiday next week. Where is she going I wonder?
After the round was over and Scott had awarded the Oscar.
Synergy Team Report
Two for the price of one this week. Paul Booth reported a very successful finance meeting on Tuesday with 9 of us in attendance and Jane reminded us of today’s business to consumer synergy team meeting that was due to take place immediately afterwards. I can reveal that she managed 11 of us but she does have more of a captive audience.
10-minute presentation by Stuart Smallcombe
Stuart Smallcombe put his jacket back on again and gave us what he estimates to be his 38th presentation. They still operate from the West End to Southend! This week’s presentation showed him energetically running through the setup that he ultimately creates for clients when he sorts out their connexions. Ably assisted by extras Paul Booth and Howard Bullock, we were given an excellent illustration of how everything works. If for no other reason than he wore jacket, we really should go out there and get him some more business.
Referrals and Testimonials
A brisk round was followed by my public announcement for the coming meetings that are going to take place in the holiday season. May I repeat my plea to all members to make a determined effort to ensure that when they are not on holiday we have a full turn out. Think about substitutes if you cannot make it yourself, let’s see if we can have good turn out in the weeks to come to greet what appears to be a number of visitors.
Just realised by watching the video that it appears our leadership team were all wearing shorts! What perfect synergy!
Perfectly coordinated Scott!
