The sun always shines on the righteous and our 20 righteous members accordingly assembled to not only welcome a glorious spring morning but also to partake of the bacon and sausage sandwiches
Fresh from a successful but delayed Christmas dinner which took place on Tuesday as Soc. Sec. Brian Painter received the plaudits of the members. A grand time was had by all.
The Performance League
After only one week Jane Malyon is out front with 98 points
Education Presentation
This week’s presentation came from the rhyming namesstress Mrs Stallion. Shame on anyone who might infer that Jane is flamboyant but somehow an education slot that advised the effective use of the hands as part of communication was not inappropriate. When you stand up there is space in front of you, so don’t just use words, use hands and props. A demonstration involved the use of nails, wood and a hammer wielded perilously close to a computer screen This and the effective use of hands demonstrated the Peter Kay like construction of “…yesterday, today and tomorrow”. I think you probably had to see it to fully appreciate it. Thank you, Jane, for brightening up our morning from the get go.
Membership Matters
Terry Maylin, equally enthusiastic as Jane before him, confirmed that Hannah O’Shea has been accepted as a member and is expected to be formally inducted next week.
The 60 Second Round
Neil Bellham won the Oscar last week with a cheerful positive presentation. By contrast is description of this week was that he had had a crap day yesterday. A festival for which he had bought all the food in readiness for his catering stint cancelled at the last minute and he was left with the biggest batch of burgers you have ever seen. John Freeman who followed him indicated that he might have the facility to house said burgers. I think there were too many of them to be eaten by John in one go.
James Humphreys is looking for property owners, both residential and commercial whilst Mike Skinner is looking for any business that would like a half-day photo shoot to assist promotion ….£200. Mike Hickson declared himself “the man who can” and went on to ask us to introduce him to hotels and similar venues that offered free Wi-Fi. He can help them with their security.
Jane Malyon offered her thanks to Brian Painter and then suggested that some of her treats would be ideal to help demonstrate how thankful you were. “Say it with treats” which she described as “a hug in a box. Of course, whilst delivering her message there was more than adequate use of hands and props.
Paul Dulieu likened a website to a High Street shop and the need to display your wares equally seductively on both. On cue Scott Griffiths followed with the need to have your web pages bring your business to life. Toby Acton gave a deep dive into the nuts and bolts of his business that helps business owners become wealthy faster. It earned him the Oscar.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Scott Griffiths reminded us that this month he would be assessing for the first time the accolade of “referrer of the month” and he also announced the re-introduction of the speakers prize.
Interesting facts and statistics
- 20 members present
- Toby Acton won the Oscar
- 20 referrals passed
- £10,500 worth of business recorded
10-minute presentation by Paul Dulieu
Paul Dulieu was this week’s presenter and he started by giving us a thumbnail sketch of his career up to when he started Redbine limited. He also treated us to nicknames he suffered during the course of his life. Rather perilously I felt he invited members to think of suitable nicknames for him in time for next week’s meeting. it was as if every step of the way was really leading to his earning his living as a wordsmith. He aims to help us all make what we do as expressed through our websites and elsewhere as clear and as effective as possible. He emphasised the importance of what you say, how you say it, and to whom you say it and also, he emphasised the importance of what you do not say. A great performance
Speakers Prize
We then added onto the meeting the draw for the speaker’s prize which is drawn from those who have contributed to referrals at the meeting and entirely appropriate within the context of a prize at the end of the month to the person who has given most referrals.
A lively enjoyable meeting .Jane’s ed slot echoed Max Bygraves old song “You need hands…” I thought she hit the nail on the head (groan) Excellent presentation from the Wordsmith proving not only can he write he can also talk about a topic (even if it is about himself) in a succint and easy to listen manner.
A superbly professional presentation from Paul Dulieu aka Twizzle. Very impressive indeed. Thank you to Jane for showing us how to Magnus Pyke (youngsters Google it).
