A glorious morning, drinks courtesy of the venue but breakfast courtesy of Paul Booth and Greggs.
Following the consumption of our breakfast orders there appeared in the middle of the floor between the members a sausage and in a display of remarkable honesty the Mayor of Gants Hill Village owned up to its deposit. Because we were a bit short on numbers it was agreed that said sausage should be allowed to attend the meeting, although quite frankly, other than making up numbers it really didn’t contribute very much more to the meeting and was finally tidied away after the meeting closed. Still, It raised spirits!!
The Performance League
The July figures were available and they revealed John Hammond on 222 points, Matt Barry on 231 points and Terry Maylin well in the lead with 264 points. The business passed for the month was just in excess of £38,000
Education Presentation
Ben Golding had done his homework and prepared a questionnaire in relation to the members to test how much we knew about each other. It was a series of two choice questions answered by everyone standing and by placing hands on either head or bottom to signify the correct answer. Nick Cooke was the winner
The 60 Second Round
Brian Painter was this week’s adjudicator as well as the 10 minutes presenter. His 60 seconds, a commendably short 90 seconds, was worth the extra time as it enabled him to fully describe the various ingredients such as arsenic, ammonia, and paint stripper to name but three that go into cigarettes. With these ingredients, it beats vaping. So what Interesting presentations were placed before our Pilgrim upon which he had to adjudicate?
Tina Walker reminded us that anyone looking to lighten the load on these beautiful summer days might be a suitable referral for her.
Paul Rodgers was optimistic about the reducing rates by lenders for five-year terms on buy-to-let mortgages, and Neil Bellham was also upbeat. Recent successes in catering services supplied, allowed him to be generous to a charity for the severely deprived at a fun day. He did it for nothing!
Being upbeat seemed to be catching. Ben Golding has just helped a young couple whose mortgage bill had increased on a monthly basis by £600. The initial savings that he has made from them coupled with their ability to earn from introducing customers should enable them to cover the increase. Nick Cooke was interrupted from a beaming reverie and jolted into confirming that as a structural engineer, he dealt with the design of steel beams.
Toby Acton, master of the metaphor, produced a master class in the genre. A recent visit for his first physio session following his operation enabled him to neatly compare the process that he went through with his physiotherapist to what he goes through with his clients.
Jane Malyon quoted Nelson Mandela in relation to the benefits of afternoon tea and announced a special afternoon tea event on the 23rd of September 2023. 20% reduction for early bookings! You can’t get more upbeat than that.
Positivity remained when Vincent Goode delivered his 60. The subject matter was funerals but a 21-year relationship with a funeral director has enabled him to produce lots and lots of orders of service. ‘It’s an ill wind….…’
It might be regarded as slightly ironic the deserved winner was Rosemarie Driscoll although her tale was cautionary. Always book through an agent. Cancelled flights are an example of where an agent can get you swapped over at short notice and enable you to leave a frustrated queue behind.
Congratulations to everyone on a really effective 60-second round
10-minute presentation by Brian Painter
We had got through things quickly up to this point and with ample time stretching before him Brian Painter manfully rose to the occasion. He had prepared for 20 minutes and 20 minutes he gave us. It was as good a presentation as I have heard from him. Informative regarding his early career and even more informative in giving us an insight into how the subconscious mind works. It might have been obvious to others and most truths finish up as appearing so but I was impressed with the importance of parents not being heavily critical of their children in their formative years. I thought the labelling of actions rather than the child when correcting them over some wrongdoing as being revelatory.
Referrals and testimonials
After Brian’s outstanding effort this was a good positive workaday referrals round….. and then all too soon we were departing into the sunshine with the prospect of a wonderful day and next week’s meeting in our minds.
A fine 60 seconds and 10 minute presentation was compacted down to 21 minutes and 30 seconds. How does the ever mercurial Mr Panter do it? I hope you all enjoyed looking lovingly at my sausage
