With two weeks to go in the month there was a good turnout of 19 members and there was a buzz about the pre meeting networking that occurs when most people arrive with at least half an hour to go before the meeting start.
The Performance League
Matt Barry is well out front with 290 points but between 120 and 122 points there were five of us vying for second and third place. So although Matt looks somewhat unassailable in his lead there seems to be a lot of competition for the second and third spots.
Education Presentation
Ben Golding explained to us the difference between ‘listening’ and ‘hearing’ and how it makes a difference to how successful our networking can be. At the meeting and 1-2-1s make sure you do more of the former then the latter and try not to interrupt…….too much.
The 60 Second Round
Brian Painter was judge and jury and set the ball rolling with the story of a guilt ridden stuntman who he is currently working on.
Everybody seems to be working harder in the run up to Christmas. From Toby Acton looking to make people wealthier faster, Mike Skinner now only able to cram in evening gigs doing photo shoots; to Matt Barry with lots of new business meetings and social media audits and Melissa Jackson helping people close one business down and open up another.
Revelation of the week is that Ben Golding reads the Guardian. Not only does it make him socially aware but he is able to relate it to the business opportunities offered if you want to have a home based source of income by selling Utility Warehouse products.
Nick Cooke felt it necessary, having been missing for the last two or three weeks, to remind people what he did. Of course it included steel beams and structural reports.
Blake Hammond was under the weather, Tina Walker gave him throat lozenges which obviously worked, because although he declared that he would not be using up his full 60 seconds, 60 seconds later he was just winding up with a call to arms, namely ‘buy a hoodie!!’ Blake and Jane Malyon are the obvious sellers to the group and this week she was explaining how drinking tea should result in lots of different types of tea being sampled, as you would different wines. She of course had an array available and it’s £5 per tin. Not much difference in price to the lower end of the wine market (in Tesco’s you can get 25% off 6 bottles) The varieties were mind blowing (of the tea!).
Vincent Goode has been producing warning boards for John Hammond but then went slightly off-piste by showing a photograph of our hero playing football, presumably for Gants Hill Village United. The team is almost irrelevant, what he wanted to emphasise were the Mayor’s shapely legs which are used to leave 15 minutes early in order to sort out his dog as well as open up speed print on time.
Stuart Smallcombe produced an interesting piece. In answer to the question ‘… where would you be without the internet?.. his suggestion was a simple, a second service backup. Talking about backup, Tina Walker reminded everyone that she could provide this to businesses that are under pressure in the run up to Christmas
Scott Griffiths has designed an operators manual for those who want to be able to successfully manage their websites themselves but this week’s Oscar winner was James Humphreys who amongst other things warned of changes in flood mapping that can mean that your new policy might not cover or provide adequate cover for flooding. Check your policy when you renew. How do you do that?….. Ask James!
A lively 60 second round
This weeks statistics and points of note
Of particular note this week was the recorded some of £48,000+ worth of business
10-minute presentation by Clara Downton
This week was a debut for Clara Downton who produced an illustrated guide both of her personal and business interests. It was an excellent introduction to what will hopefully be the first of many such presentations
Referrals and Testimonials
Clara also was introduced to the art of running as she presided over the passing of referrals and thanks for the money with far too much energy for such an early time in morning. It wasn’t too much later that we all followed Vincent out of the meeting straight into the arms of Auntie Jane with what turned out to be a very interesting synergy team meeting which you will no doubt hear all about from her minutes that are always regularly circulated.
Great meeting this morning, great Ed Slot Ben, well done Clara on your first 10 minutes really interesting and will be in touch in the New Year. Have a great weekend everyone and see you all next Thursday.
A very good blog Mr Squire! And well done Clara for your inaugural 10 minute presentation.

Great Ed slot by Ben. Do you hear or actually listen when someone is talking? It certainly made us think – and listen this morning.
An awesome presentation by Clara this morning. Really interesting. Clara is great for advice and sorting mortgages if anyone is looking!
The synergy meeting afterwards was really insightful too – what do we wish we had known before we started our businesses? Great discussion.
