Blustery but bright, 22 of us assembled including Hannah O’Shea who has made an application to join us.
The Performance League
Scott Griffiths announced the results of March’s league which showed two-thirds of the members reaching the benchmark points tally and Paul Booth being well out in front with 238 points. Congratulations Paul.
Education Presentation
It was our Education and Development officer himself who addressed this on this occasion and his theme was, not to be afraid to ask for your dream client. An anecdote involving Alan Sugar was his illustration. Don’t be afraid to be specific in your request for a client, you never know!!
Membership Matters
The electrician spot is up for grabs. Ryan is no longer a member and a replacement is needed urgently. Think about it and invite someone!
Alison Bean will not be attending meetings over the next few weeks but she is still available for referrals for her team.
Terry also announced Hannah O’Shea has applied to join. The potential of a new member is always a source of optimism amongst the group.
The 60 Second Round
Toby Acton was the Oscar adjudicator this week and so was first up. He has been digitally stalking the runner up in this year’s apprentice and has successfully made content and we’ll be getting together with her. Hopefully next instalment next week.
John Freeman will be away for the month of May so catch him whilst you can.
It is often interesting to learn what members have been up to in the previous week. Mike Skinner has been doing corporate and business headshots. He took them out into the woods to do it. Melissa Jackson has been dealing with bounce back loans being chased (clawed back) by the government. There’s no such thing as a free lunch
Flying in the face of the Ed slot suggestion that we are specific in our search for the right client, James Humphries was at pains to emphasise his general insurance credentials
Maintaining the theme of what we have been doing during the previous week, Mike Rogers has being involved with grandchildren and pyjama days. My suggestion is that you are careful when you arrange a 1-2-1 with him
This week Jane Malyon was rhyming herself with rapscallion. She has had a result with a company who were looking for 600 gifts for an upcoming zoom event
Terry Maylin explained the ongoing difficulties for commercial landlords enforcing arrears of rent. The initial arrangements restricting this came to an end at the end of this month but there is a replacement regime which restricts the ability of landlords to claim historic arrears that have occurred during the COVID lockdown. The message is clear, do not try and chase your own debts if you are a commercial landlord.
Neil Bellham was busy at the weekend with the Boat Race. He took two vans and sold out and seemed to indicate that he only came back with one van. Did you sell a van as well Neil?. A further calls for celebration was that he has just sent out his first chilli jam order. Such overwhelming success was deserving of the Oscar which was duly awarded
Two unusual presentations included Tina with a hard hat as a prop and Brian Painter illustrating how indiscriminate the subconscious can be by explaining about his treatment of a man who travelled to Manchester and had panic attacks whenever he was in a traffic jam. He was fine travelling there, but not travelling back. Make sure you are specific with your concerns when you speak to Brian.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Scott Griffiths reminded us of the incentive to give referrals with the prize for most referrals that will now be a regular feature of our monthly Performance League.
10-minute presentation by Vincent Goode
It was William Verner’s turn but he’s been struck down with the dreaded COVID, get well soon William. Standing in at short notice was none other than the Mayor of Gants Hill, Vincent Goode. With the assistance of Paul Booth he produced a series of what otherwise would be slides if he had used the projector, and the illustrated his life. Most notable was a picture of him with hair, performing in a band and general personal memorabilia. Oh yes! He also talked about Speedprint, again with the assistance of a manual slideshow courtesy of Paul Booth. It should be a lesson to all of us to be ready to give 10 minutes the week before it is actually due. Vincent was even able to arrange to have himself and Paul Booth in uniform; baggy jeans. An good example of how to do a 10 minute presentation
Referrals and Testimonials
Back live we are now responding positively to this important round and there was evidence of quite a few referrals being passed. The incentive of a prize at the end of the month will hopefully stimulate our competitive instincts.
Great meeting, and great standing in Vince, always god fun!
It was almost as if I had never been away. Can we please ensure that we do not recruit an electrician whose name does rhymes with Brian? Good presentation from the mare of Gants Hill. Why wasn’t I appointed to hold the pics? Looking forward to seeing you all on Chooseday.
Great meeting today Ben great Ed Slot and Vincent great 10 minutes and your assistant work well with showing the photos. See you all next Thursday and great also to see you Brian

Even the lovely barista lady said EBF was her favourite meeting of the week… and it’s mine too! Excellent 10 minutes Vince. When you open your comedy act in a club, I will definitely buy a ticket!!
Great meeting, a very nice buzz in the room, well done Vince on your trip down memory lane! Remember we all looking for an electrician now as well as any other visitors you think will benefit the group and them!
Great meeting, excellent presentation Vince, always good fun.
Greeting meeting. Vince, fantastic 10 minutes at short notice. I can personally recommend your business. You have helped us out a number of times with your attention to detail and quality of product.
Sorry I had to miss it this week folks, sounds like it was “all done in the best possible taste”.
Congrats to Neil and, from the sound of things, Mr Malyon is going to be very busy.
I’m a bit late to the party but it certainly was a great meeting with a memorable 10 minutes from Vince (and Paul). See y’all soon!
