It wasn’t just cold; it was really really cold. However, we EBFers are a hardy bunch and 21 of us turned up together with a guest. It is fair to say that the granola was not quite as popular today, sausage or bacon sandwich being preferred.
Performance League
It’s tight at the top; Mike Skinner out front with 144 points closely followed by Scott Griffiths on 141 and Dave Roberts with 135.
Education Slot
Ben Golding was back and hit the ground running with an invocation to be ‘out and proud’ and not ‘in the closet’. What could he be talking about! Yes, you’ve got it, the importance of inviting visitors to our meetings. He gave us a list of how to approach the task. Who is on your client list? Who do you meet when networking? Who would you like to have in the group to give you referrals? Do you know any florists or dog groomers? You get the idea!
Membership Matters
Terry Maylin emphasised how important the membership committee was and thanked those members who zoomed together earlier this week. Watch this space going forward.
60-Second Presentation Round
John Hammond, holder of the Oscar was in the chair. He presided over a lively session. Paul Corrigan’s good deed for the day was in attending to a boiler of 1970s vintage. Despite being only a twinkle in Corrigan snr’s eye at the time he managed to cope. If this was not uplifting Sally Walters feels she can help uplift the spirits on these dark and cold mornings with an uplifting fragrance from her sunrise candle. Whilst we’re on the subject of motivation, Toby Acton told of using his motivational mapping to support a client to build her team. He’s looking for helping clients with either team building or team strengthening.
Matt Berry and Scott Griffiths were both singing from the same hymn sheet. Their ongoing collaboration includes a new project to that they have just got over the line in a rebrand that reduces six websites down to two. It’s just being launched so good luck good luck to them.
Stuart Smallcombe is looking for businesses of five people and above to provide better IT support than they probably have at the moment from when they initially set up their business.
Christmas is often a busy time for businesses and thanking clients and customers is often an extra problem that you can do without. Anybody who has this problem can use Sally Smith to do this for you……. She’s good at it!
Terry Maylin has been involved in chasing debts for clients at both ends of the financial spectrum. It doesn’t matter to him. He will always maximise the claim to include interest and compensation. If it is a commercial debt the initial letters and threats of court proceedings pay for themselves.
Leann Reason is looking for landlords and Airbnb owners not just to design but help sell their product visually.
Howard Bullock always asks clients who consult him in relation to the pensions three questions. When do they want to retire? how much income do they need? and how much income would they like? The sooner you consult on your pension the better!
Jane Malyon had a prop this week, a hamper! As a Christmas gift she can fill it with whatever you like, presumably only constrained by the size of the hamper basket.
Next week I will be seriously multitasking. John Hammond thought my warning as to how important it is when going into business with others as a company to have a shareholder’s agreement and contracts of employment to take the sting out of any decisions to separate in the future was worthy of the Oscar. I always knew that his own care in getting it right in his own business would pay off in the end!!
10-Minute Presentation by Catherine Foley
It was Catherine Foley’s turn this week, and she was in particular drawing attention to her credentials for assisting 17 year olds make that UCAS applications. She managed to demonstrate this very effectively. Subsequent testimonials during the referrals and testimonials round made it clear how effective she has been with the offspring of several members. She was also effective in her presentation in guiding us as to where we can look to make effective referrals for her.
It’s might have been very very cold but the blue sky that was evident as we finished the meeting was in itself uplifting as was the Synergy Team meeting chaired by Jane Malyon which attracted 15 of us. Is that a record!
What a lovely warm meeting on such a cold morning!! So great to see everyone!! Love the laughs we have! I think the cold weather affected us too much haha!! Catherine’s 10 minutes was awesome! Though I’m not going to say I was ‘passionate’ about it!
IYKYK!! 😀
Great meeting one and all, loved the 10 mins Catherine and great to have you back Benjamin 😀
A fantastic meeting today! Catherine Foley’s 10-minute presentation on UCAS applications was so insightful and clearly demonstrated her expertise. Great to see such a strong turnout despite the cold weather. Ben Golding’s ‘Out and Proud’ slot was a timely reminder about the importance of inviting visitors. Excellent networking as always
Another brilliant 10 minutes today, Catherine you beautifully demonstrated “showing not telling” – really great advice for us all in making a bigger and better impact.
Lovely to see everyone despite the cold dark morning!
I hope we gave nice warm welcome to Michelle and maybe if she liked what she saw who knows.
Well done Ben on a very pertinent ed slot and to Catherine on a great 10 minute presentation.
Fabulous meeting this morning folks. It had so much energy. Great 10 minutes Mrs F and good Ed slot Ben-Ben.

As ever, a good reason to get up so early! Loved Ben’s Ed slot with the great ‘coming out’ analogy!
