A dull, dreek even, morning made you feel happy that you were wrapped up with the comfort of your own PC, Laptop or phone device. I did not know it at the time but joining the meeting thought my laptop meant I lasted the whole meeting without being frozen out of one of the functions of Zoom, which was not the case in my previous two meetings. Presumably, if I had read the chicken entrails I would have known this from the start. It also meant that I fully experienced a really excellent meeting of 23 attendees including 2 visitors.
The Performance League
Nick Cooke is the current leader. I don’t normally mention 2nd and 3rd but I will make an exception this week. Paul Booth and I are joint second
Education Presentation
It was Paul Booth again, this time offering up an interesting bit of advice. He illustrated the importance of T CUP (Thinking Clearly Under Pressure) It all emanated from Sir Clive Woodward and his management style when England’s Rugby Union Supremo. The Application to business is to remind us all not to succumb to pressure from customers/clients wanting us to do extras during a job which we are not really up for.
New Member Induction & Existing Member Renewal
Terry Maylin reported that Mason Edwards has renewed and has applied for the Mark of Excellence.
The 60 Second Round
John Freeman was awarding the Oscar and was up first. He is still peddling home offices. He’s even got me at it.
The general atmosphere of all presenters this week was an optimistic one. None more so than Mason Edwards who is busy with lots of deep cleans. He reported 3 new sites in Coventry and also told us of some of the unpleasant things he finds tucked behind radiators in bathrooms. Kieran Peaty has also reported new jobs coming up and John Hammond is involved with a contract this week had him speaking to us from Bristol. Allan Moller, by contrast, addressed us from his van at Stanstead.
Those of us who like acronyms/initialisations had already had been treated to T CUP and their palates were further assuaged by Stuart Smallcombe TPS. This Telephone Preference Service blocks telesales but beware; it will not prevent fraudulent calls.
Toby Acton believes in business plans but not large ones. Keep it to one page and you will see the light.
Nick Cooke, a Sunday Mail reader, illustrated a house falling off a cliff. The lady who bought it was beguiled by its prettiness. If she had called in Nick Cooke she would never have bought it.
Because a clients web site was appealing to two very different types of punter Paul Dulieu wrote mirror Website copy to accommodate both.
One of the ways of selling a product is to scare people into realising that they need it.
Paul Booth aimed at doing just that to buy to let landlords. Changes in the CGT (see, another initialisation) regime means sale of buy to let properties attract liability for tax one month after completion rather than next year’s tax round. Terry Maylin also had a message for landlords keen to know what restrictions are being maintained in relation to possession proceedings. Instruct me and you will find out!
Brian Painter and his fellow hypnotherapists have been locked down for a couple of weeks by unworldly insurers refusing to cover consultations over the internet which use hypnosis. DOH!! This has now been resolved.
In these days of virus containment, Vincent Goode shared illustrations with us of various types of sneeze guards. Very impressive bits of kit, particularly the acrylic counter sneeze guards.
Scott Griffiths has been teaching self-help of his clients over management of web sites.
All in all an excellent round topped off with the award of the Oscar to Sarah Bell particularly for accolades recently received.
10-minute presentation by Aidan Squire
Modesty prevents me from self eulogisation but hopefully, you all have an idea of the areas of work that I am looking for and how to find me in making referrals.
Referrals Round
Despite the Lock Down there was business flying around that was all part and parcel of the mood of optimism. The online referrals system also seems to be properly up and running
We are definitely getting better at these meetings. Let’s make it even better next week,
Well done Aidan on getting up to date computer equipment !
Excellent 60 second round well done Sarah on your first ( of many) Oscar! I thought Paul D 60 seconds was superb as i got a really clear picture of what he wants and what he can do in the example he gave- simples!
Nice to see our visitors and i reckon that robot grass cutter could catch on!
Great meeting see you all next week.
The meeting seemed to pass very quickly. Encouraging to see the visitors but that robot grass cutter seemed to be out of control! A comprehensive 10 minutes from our Chairman and a sporty Ed Slot from the interesting accountant.
