Another good turnout with 26 Members present which looked very much like a full house to me.
Education Presentation
We were treated to a presentation by our Education and Development Officer himself. He started his exposition with a question…what is a referral?
He then went on to distinguish between leads and referrals; which really amounts to making sure that any business or individual to which a member is referred must have been made aware of the contact and permission granted to give them a call or to get in touch. There might be no harm in giving a lead but it must be recognised as such and not claimed a referral.
New Member Induction
Before the 60 second round commenced I had the double pleasure of inducting Kelly Walker and Syd Barrett as new members. This brings us up to 34, on the march to our goal of 40.
The 60 Second Round
Anna-Marie Cooper was first up and told her story via a sequence of cards with words on them. The words were both simple and few, as if we were all children. She appears to have made a realistic estimation of her audience.
We now have another pairing that is capable of emulating the arrival of London Buses. Not only is it Jo Eastwood and Jo Jones, now we have Kelly Walker and Tina Walker. Neither of these, in fact, followed one another today.
Kelly Walker said that things had started slowly in March but she has some great deals coming up; Tina Walker, by contrast, talked about transposing for a client items from a book to a spreadsheet. Kelly Walker’s transposition would be no doubt from her stock of cars to sales.
Terry Maylin was stood up fairly early in the proceedings and made a plea for the referral of commercial disputes, hopefully, substantial ones.
Ben Golding has been to Utility Warehouses’ recent annual seminar and promised new benefits for all Utility Warehouse customers.
Marcelle Saad was keen to emphasise her aaftercareservice, dealing with problems that might arise after the sale of a particular piece of jewellery has taken place.
Richard Reed was able to boast lots of holiday offers but the best was a hotel in Paphos for two weeks with an option of extending to three for just under £750.00 per person. Sounded like a great deal for those who have time at this time of year to be away for two to three weeks.
For once I have no basis for reporting on the School of Whimsy because none of its members were present. Messrs Painter, Cooke and Shaw were all otherwise engaged. Cooke was working, Painter was on holiday and Shaw was travelling to a funeral.
It was half way through the meeting and we were still looking for some real excitement. On a gruesome level, Syd Barrett was able to report there had been 2 deaths from fires in Essex this week.
Kevin Radford, whilst not being entirely poetic, told of the “good man” who could be loosely compared with John Bunyan’s Pilgrim (not Brian Painter). Basically, the good man was rolled over by his best mate but the good man had taken the precaution of taking out some credit insurance with Kevin Radford. Is there nothing that RMK cannot help you with?
Jill Willis was in slightly defensive mode regarding the recent reported performance of Face Book. It remains an important tool for those who want to reach small businesses. It helps target an audience and she went on to explain that, like the crocodile sandwich, used well it helps you make it snappy.
John Freeman told how he could deal with plumbing, he just could not produce the gas safe certificate. He came up with a rather unusual phrase “…it’s all dimentionalised…” can’t really fit it in with what he was saying but it sounded sufficiently convoluted to be the phrase of the week.
So we have had reference to a crocodile. Matt Barry has also been involved with animals in that he has been spending his week doing “branding work”. Just waiting for the roundup.
Scott Griffiths was all bread and butter projects. Do you own your own domain name, check it out and talk to him about it. Do you REALLY own it, and is it giving away details of your home address? Matt Barry was also congratulated by John Hammond on the design of John’s new logo that festooned his jumper.
Most confusing 60 seconds of the week? It went to Paul Booth who told of a man whose accountant had died, who had a name that was the same as another member of the group and was also an illustrator. I think its Scott Griffiths….the neighbour, not the illustrator… and I think he should engage Paul Booth…the illustrator that is… if only to be certain in the knowledge that Paul will at least keep his name confidential, in addition to his financial affairs.
Who won the Oscar? Jo Jones of course. Vince Goode was impressed by the fact that she was dealing with somebody who had “super tight ham strings”…..so were we all.
This weeks statistics and points of note
- 26 members present
- 37 referrals passed
- £40,000 worth of business recorded.
- Paul Booth is ahead in the performance league
- Jo Jones won the Oscar
Synergy Team Report
Richard Reed commented on a particularly successful Synergy Team Meeting on Monday past when the Business to Consumer Group met. As many of you as possible should really try and be there next month. The location is the George and Dragon at Mountnessing, it takes place on the 3rd Monday in the month and you have to get there for 4.45.pm…..simples!!
10-minute presentation by Vincent Goode
Vince Goode, a relative newcomer, produced a laconic presentation. He gave certain personal information away; his mixed martial arts interest apparently making him an equivalent of a coiled spring. This is by contrast to our rather late Spring, now that I have been told that snow is expected at Easter.
He handed round pictures which included one of him playing football. It was a good action shot. We also had a couple of shots sent around showing him as a very young man with long dark hair. I tried to view him through half closed eyes and imagine him as he is today but with the addition of flowing locks. I failed totally.
He also produced a series of cards illustrating his business; his presentation was witty and although it occasionally wandered from the business he is looking for us to sell on his behalf, enough time was spent showing us what he actually did to make it an excellent first presentation.
Excellent presentation Vince, comedy performance and informative. Good meeting everyone too and welcome to our newest members.
An excellent presentation from Vince! The bar has been raised to new heights
Thank you Howard, or indeed, lowered to new depths…
Another 2 new members to add to our growing band of merry members, great stat’s for the week and an impressive first 10mts from Vince of Speedprint. What’s not to like.
Great 10 minutes Vince and good to see even more new members! Lovely ‘Business Banter’ as always
Great to be back and a very warm welcome to our 2 new members, just shows what can happen when away for a couple of weeks. Congratulations Vince on your first 10 minute presentation, can anyone remember what cmyk stood for? Lol
I absolutely agreed with all the members, it was a fine 10 minute presentation. I will comment on Aiden’s summing up after I’ve looked up the word “laconic”. Its great being a member of this group, I bore my wife and kids with it on a daily basis…
Now that’s what you call true love………lol
Great 10 minutes Vincent very smooth which made a lively meeting
Well done Vince, kept us all entertained and we even found out something about your business! Brilliant number of referrals and great business passed, all looking really good for the future!

Yes, indeed welcome to the new comers, the presentation was very good, the meeting was excellent, and another fine meeting all round.
I’m away next week, so see you all the week after 😊
Great meeting, Managed to stop Blake Hammond coming in my place and nicking my breakfast. 🙂 . Anna-Marie Cooper 60 seconds was brilliant just got to find someone who is getting married to refer to her now . At my age is more funeral people are looking for so that could be some order of service printing for Vince Goode
Great meeting. A warm welcome to both new members, and I really enjoyed finding out more about Vincent Goode / Speedprint during the 10 minute slot. I’d already been impressed with Vince’s professionalism and experience following our 1-2-1, and the presentation amplified this. I’ll be on the look out for referrals!
