Excellent attendance with 30 members present one sub Rupert Miles for Saj and one guest Paul Halls and a guest Chairman in the form of Vince Goode who reminded us that the road to success is always under construction.
New Member Induction for Ford Astbury
After several weeks of attending as a guest, it was a delight to welcome Ford Astbury as the newest member of Essex Business Forum. As a general builder, Ford now occupies a cornerstone position in the group and we’re confident that he will do very well.
The Performance League
Well done to Scott Griffiths who is narrowly leading the performance league for the month of June with others very close behind him in excess of 200 points, all to play for with this weeks points.
Education Presentation
David Plumley educated us in making sure that when we stand and deliver our 60 seconds we need to project our voices and speak at double normal conversation level to give those in the room a chance to hear what we are saying ( Except Ben Golding !)
The 60 Second Round
The 60-second round this week was a very lively affair, some of the highlights being: Ford Astbury who told of his nightmares assisting his daughter sorting our her prom dress and asked us all to “like” his facebook page ,Tim heard is looking for discussions with us to show “what is possible”, Marcelle Saad reminded us that she can take care of all of your jewellery needs, Scott Griffiths who is looking for clients who are interested in “NAPPING” an acronym for Name Address Postcode to assist in google searches, David Plumley who makes sure that is customers get the right computer for the right job and Richard Reed who has some great cruise offers available to his customers,
This weeks statistics and points of note
- The oscar (awarded by Nick Cooke ) was won by Tim Heard for his invitation to us all to have a discussion of what is possible, well done Tim.
- £14,000+ of new business recorded from members since last week
- 17 new business opportunities passed
Three random facts…
As an initiative to see how well we REALLY know each other, members this week were asked to write three facts about themselves (not their businesses) onto postcards as they arrived, and then hand these to Scott without identifying their names on the postcards.
Scott then selected a few cards at random and read out the facts. With some amusement we eventually figured out who the chosen members were, and learned that one of us has a belly-tattoo, one likes Gypsy Jazz and one member cleared the “Dolphin” swimming pool as a child when he “left a floater” in the pool!!!!
10-minute presentation by Ben, Ben Golding
Ben Golding was the lucky person to do his 10 minutes and he took time to tell us of the 2.5 million services Utility Club Warehouse provides to its 650,000 members and showed some other benefits of being a member including a Gourmet card and free lightbulbs when you sign up for all the services and reminded us that the cashback card could save you hundreds of pounds a year and finally he showed us a short video of Joanna Lumley extolling the virtues of being a member of UWDC.
Referrals and Testimonials
A speedy session of referrals and testimonials with plenty of members also announcing one to ones they have had and John Freeman calling a meeting afterwards to get the new Trades synergy group up and running. The meeting came to an end and our congratulations to an excellent guest Chairmanship by Vincent Goode who thankfully ran out of dad jokes and sayings before the end of the meeting.
Great meeting and great start to the day which went only downhill when I left as I had a flat tyre! But the good news I now have 4 lovely new tyres on my car so she is handling like a dream! Looking forward to hearing more facts about people next week!
Sorry I had to cut and run and sorry I missed ben’s 10 minutes but a great turnout!

I enjoyed the honour bestowed upon me to chair this fine group. Sitting in the big Aiden seat certainly gives you a good view of the proceedings. Thanks for your support and well done to everyone for making it a memorable meeting. And FYI, you really can see the moon from the Great Wall of China…

Hi everyone, another full and fun filled meeting, great presentation Ben, good to see my friend Joanna. I am just of to the neighbours to have a swim in their paddling Pool. MMMM.
Great atmosphere at the meeting today, a real buzz in the room .Welcome Ford and well done Vince on excellent chairmanship
Well done Vincent my son,( I am older than you) for bringing your unique brand of humour to the proceedings. I didn’t actually hear the “jokes” but Ben relayed them to me hence the delayed chuckle! I didn’t know that you could see the moon from the great wall of China. Do you actually have to stand on the wall or can you see it from ground level? Good 10 minutes from Joanna Lumley.
What a great turnout last week, Welcome Ford to EBF. Great 10 minutes from Ben and well done Vincent for chairing the meeting. See you all Thursday
Great meeting as always, and excellent 10 minute presentation by Ben-Ben!
