Word must have got out that it was my turn for the 10-minute presentation, numbers were down to 18 and no visitor dared show his face.
Notwithstanding, when the darkness had been driven out by daylight, we had a beautiful clear sky and bright sunshine. Those of you who did not attend missed a very lively and good-humoured meeting.
The EBF Performance League
The current leader is Dean Caldon with 237 points. He might prove uncatchable.
Education Presentation
In David Plumley’s absence Jill Willis owned up to having volunteered for this week. Her theme was personal productivity.
She quoted from a Financial Times study. I do not know whether this means she reads the Financial Times or she reads literature that quotes the Financial Times, but she nonetheless appeared cheerful throughout. Three top tips.
- Give yourself a five hour day. Use those five hours whenever it fits in but limit yourself. This should make you applier and more productive. The problem with this is trying to persuade your customers clients and contacts to do the same.
- The second area used the term Polledora. Using something like a tomato timer, presumably this relates to the shape, set times when you must take a break. Again you will be more focused when you work.
- The final suggestion was called Morning Pages. In the morning when you wake up you write 3 pages of what you should be doing. Having collated your obligations this will keep you focused.
Indeed all three points seem to relate to being focused in doing your work and that seems to be a good message, particularly for small business owners who do not necessarily have a defined day.
The 60 Second Round
Anna Marie was the photographer at a wedding when it rained all day. For all that she got a letter from the bride thanking her for the quality of the photographs. She was cheerful but then she was writing the email from the Maldives on her honeymoon.
Ben Golding appeared without piggy and explained that with the upcoming energy cap Utility Warehouse was the place to be.
Nike Cooke was looking for Party Wall matters and explained what they were, but not before he declared that this last week he had designed a few steel beams.
Terry Maylin successfully fought off a statutory demand served on one of his clients and is looking for anyone else with a similar dilemma.
Tina Walker mentioned Christmassy ideas therefore I will not comment further on her 60 seconds.
Richard Reed boasted a saving of £100.00 per person on ski trip that he had arranged for a group of clients.
Allan Moller has given up on Vera but is now providing services for Val. He went over to her place and looked at the plans for her extension. By virtue of his charm, if nothing else, he got the job.
The Naughty Corner were vocal throughout the meeting and their 60 seconds had certain themes. Howard Bullock is advising a client who travels all over the world and arranged a meeting on Skype having initially practised his Superman exercises. Matt Barry feels he is going Global. Projects in Amsterdam, New York, Mexico, Japan and a new project coming up in Rotherham. He will need Skype for all of these meetings. Paul Booth is looking for people with foreign residency and overseas bank accounts….. Well done lads.
John Hammond demonstrated his versatility. You have heard of his CCTV exploits but this week he was into automatic doors and car park barriers. Is there no limit to his talents.
It was Dean Caldon awarding the Oscar this week as well as being bell man. Such multitasking led him to decide that Vincent Goode, aka. the Mayor of Gants Hill, was deserving of the honour by describing himself as a rare breed. This rare breed was a reference to honest printers. He turned down a job because of its impracticability from a time point of view and was rewarded with a later order.
This weeks statistics and points of note
- 18 Members present
- 15 referrals
- £10,000.00 worth of business passed
- Oscar Winner Vincent Goode
- EBF Performance League Leader Dean Caldon
10-minute presentation by Aidan Squire
Although Dean Caldon was multitasking he did not beat me on that front. In addition to standing in for David Plumley I also introduced myself for the 10 minute presentation. I had an attentive audience reflected in the questions asked afterwards. I hope it was enjoyed by all.
A final plea to any of you who were not at the meeting but are ready this Blog, please make the effort to attend regularly now we are at the other end of the holiday season, we should be producing a full meeting. I look forward to evidence of this next week.
Just to say the naughty corner are having a bit of a rebrand at the moment. Last week we came up with the name the “Latte Club” (as we all drink latte) but it’s early days yet. Other possible names are “The Naughty Business Forum corner” and “We used to be the naughty corner but now we are even naughtier corner”. Watch this space. Great presentation from Aidan.
Indeed, i think the new name needs to be given a good deal of thought… let’s not rush into it, perhaps we can discuss it over a Latte. Great presentation Aidan and it’s getting tight at the top… bit nervous 🙂
a quiet but lively meeting
Good meeting everyone. Lovely to see everyone’s cheery faces so early in the morning, and hear of all the good things going on at work.
I am looking forward to the rebranding of the naughty corner- perhaps Jill Willis could help- does that count as a referral? Good meeting, and cant wait to see the rebranding next week!
Nice new blog format Scott! Low key, but very useful meeting as always folks 🙂
Down on attendance (where are you all?) but up on cheery banter and business referals. Very informative 10mts from Aidan and the sun shone all the way back to the office 🙂
Comprehensive 10 minutes from Aidan. With all the pifalls of having staff, I’m glad that I’m a loner! Well done the “mare” of Giddy Park, you left a mark!
Another great meeting and great 10 minutes from Aidan. I did mention the C word and it’s 89 days until the big day. Have a great week and see you next week.
