We finally hit 30. 29 Members were in attendance with 1 Visitor. Everybody managed to squeeze round after a table had been added at the Naughty Corner end. This resulted in Marcelle Saad becoming the newest recruit to said corner. The upshot is that she will either become Naughty or they will temper their behaviour. Your views on how this will pan out would be welcome.
The Performance League
Scott Griffiths is a fairly robust character but did I detect a note of embarrassment and mumbling when he delivered the current standings in the Performance League. Yes, you’ve got it, he is in the lead. I feel I can vouch for his scrupulous honesty in the collation of the figures. I cannot do the same for all other Members in obtaining referrals and other things that score points in the League. We need to up our games so that Scott scores the same points but doesn’t win.
Education Presentation
Davis Plumley’s theme was the 60-second presentation and the need to be specific. Specific is the type of work, specific as to the skills that we bring, specific as to the type of clients we are looking for and the areas of the world, or even Essex, that we work in. A particular company or an individual is perhaps a counsel of perfection but should be aimed for. His call to arms was that we should not be woolly. This was misheard by some as making sure you are not fluffy. Which ever it was a good message.
The 60 Second Round
Marcelle Saad explained the recent technology for dealing with overseas clients, drawings and pictures easily transmitted gives her potentially a huge audience. We should bear this in mind.
She was followed by Mike Rogers who hereinafter should be referred to as Retro Rogers. We were not surprised to hear him dissing the value of technological advances. A landline and a pencil represent heaven to him.
The ultimate in discretion was Matt Barry, who was very excited by a new product but was not able to tell us what it is… yet. Great on confidentially but not too good on message!
Mason Edwards is striving for Eco Friendliness in his business. It was comforting to learn that until he can adapt his business he is not going to shy away from “proper cleaning”.
Terry Maylin’s presentation explained that chasing commercial debts can currently create 8.75% per annum interest together with compensation on top of the amount owed. Provided he can collect the money for you, you would be investing wisely if your debt isn’t being paid.
The Bard of Hadleigh was all fluffy and he plagiarised mercilessly my client Lewis Rolls. It meant that we both had a 60-second presentation that involved our ubiquitous hero and befitting his status as Bard of Hadleigh, Kevin Radford’s presentation was poetic. Mine was more illustrative but both fulfilled the desire amongst us British for lavatorial humour. Kevin’s poem, of course, won the day and the Oscar. I must declare that I am not bitter in any way about this turn of events.
Part of Kevin Radford’s theme was that he did not charge a fee for his services. This was followed up by Richard Reed who emphasised the same thing.
Ben Golding urges us to get people to put “all of their eggs in one basket”. The benefits far outweigh any detriment, as well as being complementary with the Pig (bacon and eggs).
Stuart Smallcombe was taking dirty, namely that his company did the dirty part of the business of providing IT In effective and practical ways. The implication is that David Plumley keeps his hands clean and nothing in his presentation made us think otherwise.
Asbestos Ellen (Beckenham) is very busy at the moment. An interesting fact is that white marble from South Africa contains asbestos. A marble kitchen surface in this material means that you cannot drop food on it and then apply the 10-second rule.
If Mike Rogers was retro the Mayor of Gants Hill one step further by also emphasising the ongoing demand for ink on paper. “Tactility” is the word of the day.
Nick Cooke talked about stress and strain and then explained how one impacted on the other.
Different ways to sell yourself came from Ashley Bermange with clothing of various sorts with company logos.
Jill Willis wants people to come to her PR School that will be taking place at Barleylands. This, Jill, is an opportunity to comment to this Blog by giving details of where and when.
Brian Painter did not disappoint this week. Carbon monoxide, acetone and tar are all things we try and avoid in every day life, but all of these a smoker can take in one go plus other poisons. Today’s smoker can be compared with a Gladiator of Roman times. Only a 50% survival rate
Suddenly we heard from 30 people and the 60 second round was over.

Oscar Winner Kevin Radford
10-minute presentation by Kieron Peaty
A relatively new Member gave us a good basic 10-minute session. He gave us an insight as to who he was, how he got there and what he can do. It was certainly a presentation that gave Members confidence going forward in referring him with a free initial consultation by way of effecting referrals. Excellent Job!!!
Sartorial Note
Members appear to be increasingly expressing themselves through their socks.
Saj Sreedharan by ignoring them totally, David Plumley (pink) John Hammond (patterned blue) and Vincent Goode (multicoloured Spiderman looking ) I think this was this week’s winner.
Next week it is compulsory for you all to arrive wearing flares and riding a Raleigh Chopper and singing Maggie May.
A real buzz about the room this morning with a full house. A deserved Oscar to Kevin R. and an excellent presentation from Kieron Peaty which showed his true passion for what he does… and it all starts with a free consultation. Well done to all.
Great meeting very interesting 10 minutes from Newbie Kieron and looking forward to seeing more of his work
well done Scott on leading the figures and yes, they are real numbers, its a challenge for us all to beat him!
I enjoyed a few things about this meeting… a crowded table, a guest, a pair of ridiculous socks from JMH, Kieron’s flashy epileptic inducing powerpoint presentation, a flurry of testimonials and referrals, and of course my winning pair of socks. But mostly, Ashley Bermange’s wonderful comment that his specially adapted hi-vis jacket will fit almost everyone. What a dirty look from the chair #priceless
An excellent presentation from Kieron!
A nice effort on the socks guys but like David said, I’m keeping my powder dry until a worthy opponent presents himself (or herself) on the battlefield.
Next week. Sock off. It’s official…
An absolutely delightful meeting with great business people and to be very positive early in the morning, this is the reason why I joined the forum.
A tidy and specific education slot from the man wearing pink socks (David) points noted.
Well done Kevin Redford on winning the Oscar by talking crap during his one minute 💩
A great ten minute presentation from Kieron, I thought it was emotional and also to the point plus the drawings looked amazing.
Have a fantastic week everyone see you all next week in flares and big pointed collars etc
Fantastic meeting with loads of business being passed around the members plus lots of laughs too! There was such a great buzz in the room!
Excellent presentation from Kieron! Very professional and passionate.
Well done to Kevin on winning the Oscar too!
I’m going to have to dig out the party socks now!!
Packed and energised meeting
A very busy meeting, good fun, and worth the visit for the business 😊
Well done Kieron, great first presentation,
see you all next week gang 😊
Kieron’s presentation clearly demonstrated his skill and passion for his trade with some great visual before and after shots .
There was a real buzz about the meeting and I have made a note to get up earlier so I make sure I get a seat next week.
I am not sure that talking crap was the intended message , more that we are very thorough when putting together risk presentations and are particularly keen on Manufacturers and wholesale risks.
Sorry Sir it was well deserved and I was kidding about the crap, I’m sure everyone understood the message.
Well done Mike for giving me the opportunity to press my flares and to pump up the chopper, the tyres are a bit flat as I haven’t used it for a while. Regarding Maggie may, she didn’t when I knew her. Well done Kieron and Kevin.
packed and energising meeting
I’m wearing tights next week…
Just saying that I’m working on the same “secret” project as Matt, so I can vouch for the excellence of his work so far. You’ll just have to trust me! We’ll both be publicly talking about it soon I hope…
Thanks for the kind words regarding the presentation all, and well done to Kevin winning the Oscar.
A great meeting with a full house and a real buzz in the room, looking forward to the next one.
Great presentation Kieron – really loved how your passion for your family and your work!
I am considering whether to join the sock-off in future weeks…
Another excellent meeting, what a difference with 30+ business owners in the room. See you next week.
Great meeting again . Just to point out my socks where toe socks not just patterned socks
Well done everyone. I look forward to seeing you this week. I’ll look out for the special socks!
