With the Coronavirus problem hanging over us it was nice to arrive at our venue at 6am and find that it was light for the first time this year. There then appeared the sunshine and the whole of our meeting was bathed in sunshine. Beyond expectations 18 people attended and one visitor and we then commenced a very pleasurable and useful meeting.
The Performance League
Kevin Radford was out front with 118 points. His absence however gives us all a chance to catch up.
Education Presentation
Nick Cooke was our presenter this week and he came equiped with hard hat and a high vis Gilet Jaune. What that has to do with anything was difficult to fathom. His theme was that we should make sure we speak the same language as our clients. He mentioned floor joists to his client and she only understood what they were when he simply talked about the floor. In other words, make sure that your client understands the advice you are giving. A very colourful performance.
The 60 Second Round
Stuart Smallcombe was our Bellman and Terry Maylin, last weeks winner of the Oscar, was the adjudicator.
Coronavirus hung like a shroud over the proceedings.
Kieran Peaty was looking for community led projects, allotments to you, but felt under the circumtances he will be restricted in what he does. Nick Cooke is taking his courage in both hands and going on holiday next week to Mexico. We wish him well and hope that he gets back. In the meantime he was not lookling for business.
Richard Reed who aside from his 60 seconds had displayed all of the knowledge and care for our health that should make him termporarily our “preventative health officer”, he simply stated that under the circumstances he was looking for “bugger all”, his time being spent at the moment trying to negotiate on behalf of his clients approproate cancellation consessions. For some of us its hard out there!
By contrast, for reasons not entirely of a fitness nature, Ford Astbury has taken up jogging and as a result of this he managed to get a job from “someone up early who waved at him”. its enough to make you feel better.
Ben Golding’s organisation is going ahead with a Seminar and Brian Painter has a new client with a phobia about moths and daddy longlegs. He is confident that he can solve her problem, daddy longlegs and all.
Stuart Smallcombe by contrast to everyone declared himself busy. John Freeman seems to be busy but unfortunately if was with a 1977 leak in what I believe is know as “Stink Pipe”. Fortunatly by the time he rose to speak we had all finished our breakfast.
We always leave the best to last and Alan Moller’s effort, he had a king turd of a problem and the description of his efforts to resolve this led to the award of the Oscar.
10-minute presentation by Scott Griffiths
It was Scott Griffiths turn this week and his presentation was exemplary. He took us through a contract dealing with his preparing a website for a client. The process was taken through from start to finish with clarification and warnings as to what he looks for in order to protect and give an effective site. Most of us have a good idea of what Scott does but this was clear, well thought out and useful tool for us all moving forward to find him referrals.
Synergy Team Meeting
Howard Bullock reported on a successful Synergy Team meeting of the Business to Business Group when 9 were present and a lively discussion took place relating to …yes you guessed it…coronavirus and how to cope with it in our businesses.
Referrals and Testimonials
As usual it was a lively round and the sunshine helped.
There followed a discussion about the future of the meeting, given the threats of the spread of the virus closing us down. Our basic decsion was to keep a weather eye on things as they move forward but at the moment we will go ahead with a meeting next week. If we are forced to abandon then I will continue to produce a Blogs on a regular Thursday basis until we re-open so that there can be a focus on Thursday and an interaction between Members. Also Scott is opening a WhatsApp group for all of us with the dire warning of making sure it is kept relatively serious and as non evasive as possible to our working lives.
In first?
Great meeting with a superb presentation from the handsome face…
No porridge though but coronavirus is affecting us all in one way or another…
Hope to see you all next week
Thanks Toby! Handsome face but was made aware that I delivered my 10 minute presentation with flies open!!!! D’oh!
I thought it was meant to be part of the presentation
It was good to see you all this morning. Great 10 minutes Scott and a very amusing 60 seconds round. Keep well everyone and, hopefully, see you next Thursday (from some distance if you are wearing that getup again Nick!
Top job Scott. Even after all these years!
well done to all of those who attended long may it continue while it is safe to do so! Great simple presentation Scott, what you described is exactly what you do ! Congratulations Alan on your Oscar for your king of the turds tale. See you all next week all being well.
What a great way to lift spirits during a troublesome period, thanks guys!, enjoyed the 10 mins Scott and cheers Terry for the salt pot!.
Congrats Al on winning the oscar 😉 or pot of salt 🙂
Great presentation from Scott, though I expected nothing less from the face of EBF!
Always brilliant to start the day on such a positive note 😀
Top meeting this morning great presentation from Scott and well done to Nick on his Ed slot.
Congratulations to Alan on winning the battle of the turds.
Good work Scotty 🙂 I’ll be away next week so will catch up with you the following week, if we are all still alive…
Excellent meeting as usual (I hadn’t noticed Scott) where we discussed & agreed the situation re COVID19 & how to “Keep Safe & Carry On”. The back up proviso re our WhatsApp Grp. is an excellent idea and having seen it in operation it will serve us well. Productive and practical meeting yet again.
Despite depleted attendance this morning, it was a really enjoyable meeting. Scott’s ten minute presentation without the use of any high tech or even low tech gadgetry was excellent. I am going to miss the next 3 meetings whilst on holiday but will be thinking of you all.
Great 10 minutes Scott. Great meeting too. Well done Alan for winning the Oscar. See you all next week
Well done to the winners and to Scott for a presentation that was in plain English. My client this evening required a deep trance and although I completed the session I also went into a trance and forgot to ask for the fee. When I realised my error,he was moving away in his car I ran (I use the word loosely) after him and although the gap was rapidly widening I felt oblidged to continue running (see above.) Reminded me of the stupid action you see in films but I didn’t run (ditto) that far but I did shake my fist! I hope he returns next week!in
It was a great meeting to say the least, excellent 10mins from Scott, very well done, great blog, but since it appears I’m the last, and maybe the last yo read Brian’s comment’s I find myself p£$$%^g myself 🤣😂🤣😂, stay safe, hope to see you all next week!
