Meeting Thursday 14th June 2012
A beautifully sunny morning made it almost worthwhile getting up at 5.a.m.: the pleasure was complete seeing all of your happy smiling faces, well 28 of you anyway.
I felt it was a very good and lively meeting. Its always good to have a new member induction at any meeting and this week it was Suzanne Riches, welcome Suzanne. We even managed to get the certificate, the folder and her cards in the box all in one go. It bode well for the rest of the meeting.
The 60 second round had some very interesting contributions.
Clair Greenslade did a magic trick with cups and what I assume was hot water. Would it have been a more interesting piece of technology if the name appeared as you drank the contents rather than as you filled it up – maybe not.
Joan produced the letter K which stands for Key, apparently the key to good health is a supple spine and not a glass of wine. This flies in the face of all of that comforting wisdom that advocates a little tipple every day. Maybe the Chinese do have something. But I think it is more a question of causing and effect. After several glasses of wine I tend to feel that my spine has become very supple……… along with my legs and other parts of my anatomy!!
Is it just my imagination or is Michael Adelizzi starting to look to catering for the more senior citizens of society. Last week he was talking about low level baths and this week he was flaunting his grab rails.
I haven’t mentioned the Ed slot which is remiss of me because it was a very good one. We are all supposed to pair up and produce our partner’s 60 seconds thereby demonstrating that we have understood in some detail exactly what their business is. (Its more difficult to teach than to learn!!). Well my suggestion for whoever pairs with Graham Thurston is that he simply stands up and puts his hands in his pockets. Although Graham tried manfully the hands kept slipping down the side of his pullover and into his pockets – …….. a great man to have at the bar.
Terry Maylin is suffering from a touch of the ions. Apparently his services include discussion, negotiation, arbitration and as a last resort litigation. He missed out interrogation and constipation but hey – nobody is perfect!
Those regular readers of this blog, whether they attend the meeting or not, are aware of some of the strange antics that Brian Painter gets up to. This time he limited himself to claiming that he was Mike Rogers’ tree. The accolade for taking us all to where we don’t want to go, instead fell this week to Paul Booth. We should all remember that he managed to get us all to make farmyard noises for various animals. Pigs, sheep, cows, chickens!! Did Brian somehow hypnotise us or will we do anything that we can to stop Paul talking about accountancy. Anyway… he is looking for farmers, not their animals and I can claim not to have responded to his request to be a field of wheat. Far too close to tree hugging.
And of course that brings us round full circle to Mike Rogers who after looking to a tree for inspiration cut it down in true George Washington style. He followed this up however with a 10 minute session that made us contemplate old age and in particular care homes a very well presented 10 minutes Mike.
If we all thought it could get no better, the meeting Secretary’s report in relation to business passed was at worst uplifting. On recount £46,000.00 worth of business was recorded as passed. Although there were one or two biggish contributions what was good to see was that this was drawn from genuinely a lot of referrals. Coupled with the £8,500.00 passed last week we are nearly £55,000.00 after two weeks – brilliant.
Oh! I forgot, Clair Greenslade won the Oscar for showing us her magic mugs – well done Clair.
See you all next week. May all your Thursdays…………..
