VE Day 80 years on brought a response from all of our members. At Scott Griffiths urgings we themed our 60 second presentations to red white and blue outfits with linked subject matter. Scott managed his Union Jack jacket but the trousers had not survived the test of time. Jane Malyon could have been in a WAAF uniform and Blake Hammond had gone to the trouble of a VE Day celebratory banner. The turnout was not only colourful but numerous. We mustered 26 in all. No wonder the sun also shone on us from the outset.
The Performance League
One week in and Paul Corrigan was out front with 105 points with Paul Dulieu and Leann Reason joint second
Education Presentation
Are you a good referral? Ben Golding posed the question and emphasised the importance of building the trust and confidence necessary to encourage other members to refer you. Turning up at meetings….. And on time is crucial. Make your presentations and pitches for business coherent and generally make yourself as ‘visible’ as possible. Trust and confidence is hard won and easily lost!
The 60 Second Round
Joshua Ayettey was standing in for James Humphreys in awarding the Oscar that James had won the previous week. He started off with the theme of victory that was so present in many of the presentations that followed. Victory with him it is getting your house into good shape. He did make reference to the trenches as did one or two others although his youth perhaps betrayed the awareness of the extent of trench warfare in the Second World War. The reference to trenches was used by Tina to emphasise how she could get you out of them if you needed administrative help.
Toby Acton wore a fetching waistcoat that celebrated the Union Jack.
Paul Corrigan linked VE with VAT exemption which he is offering to cover during the month of May. Other victories were claimed by Ben Golding if you join Utility Warehouse and take advantage of their fantastic offers; Melissa Jackson where the victory can often be a company arising, phoenix like, out of the ashes of Insolvency; Stuart Smallcombe that you engage him and obtain the necessary communication security that we all need.
Matt Berry had a grandparent who was a war hero and the pioneer of graphic design who had been an inspiration for him. Jon Foster told of the heroism of the locksmith of Colditz.
Terry Maylin likened the sense of justice that is in the system that he is seeking to uphold and which was of course what everyone was fighting for back in the day.
It wouldn’t have been a meeting about VE Day if someone had not attempted Winston Churchill like imitation. Up to the plate stepped Vincent Goode. His was a very creditable attempt used in seeking to sell the business card as your Silent Sales Partner.
The Oscar was won by Catherine Foley in describing the victories she had in making her private students work with and hopefully appreciate literature in both dramatic and poetic form.
10-minute presentation by Jane Malyon
A sumptuous presentation by very own scone gnome. She was, as referred to earlier. in full uniform equipped with lots of blown up photographs to help illustrate her life. Her presentations are always exceedingly well delivered. She took us through her early life, jumping between the UK and Canada…. And back again, right up to present. We learned how both to eat and pronounce ‘scone’; how to judge a ‘good looking baby’ and how she would like it to be Christmas all the year round; a particularly striking photograph was of an  uncle astride a horse in full rodeo kit looking like an advert for Marlboro cigarettes.
More importantly she was able to give us an insight into the food that she can produce for weddings and funerals. She presents the food for you at your chosen venue and when it is all over she takes it away. This on top of cream teas is a business model made in heaven….. Uplifting!
Great meeting and lovely to win the Oscar this week.
Well done!
well deserved.
Very well deserved Catherine
Excellent meeting this morning with three visitors, VE Day themes and English Cream Tea delights!
What a meeting! Left buzzing.
Thank you one and all. Jane, your 10 minutes was perfect, as are you!
Thanks again everyone
Aww Paul! How kind xx
Fantastic and lively VE special meeting!! Loved it!! Awesome to meet the visitors too! Aunty Jane did an amazing presentation, loved hearing the story of her background and how the business has evolved.
Though very sad to see Tina leave us, she’s looked after me ever since I joined!! Though we will definitely be keeping in touch regularly!! 🥰
Thanks for the ed slot! Yes its a sad day that Tina has left. We will all miss her!
It was a splendid meeting today. Two/three visitors, the usual excellent Ed slot by Ben Ben and a wonderful 10 minutes by Aunty Jane. Well done all on the VE Day references. Very enjoyable.
Excellent meeting! Lovely to see our guests and hear about what they do.
Fab ed slot from our amazing UW hero, Ben.
A really interesting and enjoyable 10 minutes from our very own Scone Gnome. So lovely to hear about your background and how you built The English Cream Tea Company – and even better that I won the raffle – I now have a cream tea to look forward to!
Well done Catherine on winning the Oscar!
Bless!!
An excellent meeting made all the better by three visitors and a wonderfully warm presentation by Jane!
Well done on a great advert for EBF
Tina will be missed for all the little things that she did but no one noticed!
Ahh thanks Terry x
Well I can confirm my guests Steve and Harry Drew enjoyed the meeting, I am confident they will apply for membership.
I found Tina’s goodbye speech quite moving. She has been such a constant at the meetings since I joined 6 years ago, a little bundle of energy is our Teen. I’ll miss you
What a vibrant VE Day 80th anniversary meeting. It’s great to have some visitors join us today. I needed Aunty Jane to bring cakes for her next ten minutes (just because I love Roger’s cooking).
I only had a day’s notice this time but will aim to do a food demo next time poppet!
Really great meeting today, but very sad to learn that it was the last meeting for Tina. She’s been a very important part of our history and I wish her the very best going forwards x.
A great meeting as ever. Sorry to see Tina leave us. But great to see 3 visitors. We were just about packed to capacity once again.
Great meeting everyone.
Always a real shame when somebody leaves the EBF family, especially somebody who has been so involved in it as Tina. Although I always feel comfort when people who are leaving EBF are doing so for the right reason. Tina has bravely carved out a new life for herself in her dream coastal location, and if that isn’t a good reason to leave, then I don’t know what is. Well done Tina, I wish you all the luck in the world, you deserve it x
Just to add, really sorry to see Tina leave – when I visited EBF nearly 7 years ago and I first walked in, she was the only person I knew and it was great to see a friendly face. You will be greatly missed Tina
Really enjoyed the meeting today. Well done Catherine on your well deserved win for the best 60 seconds. See you all next week.
Great meeting today with three visitors lets hope they join. Awesome ed slot Ben, and Aunty Jane great presentation and it was lovely to hear about your background and how The Cream Tea started. Thank you all for your kind words it was a hard decision and I will miss you all but hope to get to a synergy meeting when I am down.
Brilliant Jane!
Great meeting on Thursday and good to have visitors who will hopefully be back next week.
