The advantage of working from home is that I can go and scrape the ice off the car windscreen after the meeting which is what I did today.
Our first meeting of the New Year was a chilly one but it was heartwarming to see everyone again. Everyone amounted to 26 brave souls casting their eyes to the future despite Covid and the LockDown.
The Performance League
Despite spending Christmas and New Year with the Covid lurgi, Scott Griffiths, invoking the spirit of Baden Powell was in attendance playing a full part in the meeting which included confirming that Matt Barry was December’s winner.
Education Presentation
It was Ben Golding himself who delivered this week’s pearls of wisdom. His subject matter was “goal setting” and the importance of doing this if we are to progress our businesses efficiently and effectively. He then went on to set out a list of 12 areas that we should be looking at, the 12th being how to celebrate if you achieve the previous 11. His theme was appropriate as it coincided with the theme for the 60 second round of New Year’s resolutions. Not a bad start to the meeting.
New Member Induction & Existing Member Renewal
Another good news story; Terry Maylin reported renewals of membership by Toby Acton and Simon Essex.
The 60 Second Round
Colin O’Connor was adjudicating the Oscar. It’s rather comforting to note that whatever the weather, its always the same out of his window.
As to the resolutions of the Members; it started with Howard Bullock saying “no” resolutions and Dean Caldon and Toby Acton wanting to say “no” more often when appropriate to slightly more complicated suggestions including Simon Essex intending to work from the larder and Vincent Goode not intending to punish himself by keeping up with previous resolution as yet unbroken.
Ben Golding’s was the most blatant business-specific resolution, to help people save money in all the usual ways that Utility Warehouse can.
Terry Maylin was happy to resolve simply to survive and still be here to take advantage when we breakout from lockdown.
It was however Keiron Peaty who caught the eye of the man in “the room with a view” who was most impressed by his intention to delegate more and the announcement that he had employed his first member of staff. Now your problems are really starting Keiron.
So ended our first 60 second round of the year.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Scott was not flagging and reminded us all of the new section of the website that allows you to record the invitation of visitors. Use it!
10-minute presentation – replaced with an open Q&A Session
There wasn’t one….but there was an exceedingly good Q & A Session, as usual this worked extremely well.
Referrals and Testimonials
Despite the break there were quite a few referrals as if to confirm that; virus or not, lockdown or not, we will do more than just survive this coming year, we will thrive!!

Looking out of my bedroom window yesterday and seeing a thick frost on the cars, I was pleased that the meeting was via zoom. Everyone seemed in good spirits despite the situation and it was a good, lively meeting. Enjoy the weekend.
