I go away on holiday and come back to a changed membership committee under the chairpersonship of the Scone Gnome and a meeting comprising 20 members and 1 visitor. It was good to be back, I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms…… A Calcott Hall sausage sandwich with tomato sauce and two coffees can do that to you!!!
The Performance League
Last meeting of the month and Leann Reason is out front with 281 points closely followed by Matt Barry and Stuart Smallcombe.
Education Presentation
Nick Cooke was this week’s contributor and by way of illustration of why not to overstretch yourself just because the job looks good and know your limitations, he told of how he was not seduced by the prospect of being involved in the construction of a Paddle Court. A cross between squash and tennis with Spanish origins! Nick was not tempted.
The 60 Second Round
Blake Hammond won the Oscar last week, had a virtual Oscar in the shape of a sauce bottle to award and felt obliged to announce that there are 30 Fridays between now and Christmas. But in the meantime, during the summer periods when you might wish to go hiking and certainly be outdoors, one of his ration packs can save you making up a full picnic and has all the nutrients you could possibly want to sustain you during outside activities.
Jon Foster seemed to feel it necessary to clarify that he is not a rogue trader and that you will not only get a fast and efficient service from him, but it will be fair.
James Humphries is not looking for burly builders. Resplendent in shorts, this uncle of twins is looking for cafes and restaurants to hang out in. It would help if he did this on the recommendation of one of us, which would enable him to sell insurance as well. The other member sporting shorts and knees was Paul Corrigan, who was pleased to announce a big contract with a school’s trust that will be keeping him busy but not too busy for EBF members.
This was a meeting of two poems. AI (Nick) Cooke delivered a verse in praise of structural surveyors and was honest enough to acknowledge it’s AI origins and Paul Dulieu in praise of celebrants did it himself. It is perhaps not surprising that AI guru Blake Hammond awarded the Oscar to Nick.
Matt Barry was all statistics…… 96% of businesses advertise through social media, but only 50% of these deal with it in a strategic way that can be of real benefit to them. Go to Matt and get yourself strategised.
Scott Griffiths was explaining about ‘default behaviour…..’ when you are sitting there just thinking. He thinks of Google first…..sad.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Scott Griffiths refer us to the Vforms on our website and to the distinction between a genuine1-2-1 and a social event. Both count for points but you can now distinguish. He also had a message for all of us who had not given Google reviews for EBF…. Do it!
Membership Committee
Jane Malyon reported to the group on her appointment is chair of the membership committee and other newly selected members, being Clara Downton, Blake Hammond, and Jon Foster. Remember, although its regular function is to consider new member applications and existing member renewals, the membership committee is a link between the members and the board and should be used as such if you have any bright ideas.
10-minute presentation by Aidan Squire
The Employment Rights Bill is currently going through parliament and will have a fundamental effect on current employment law. I gave a rundown of these, which I hope was sufficiently gloomy so far as employers are concerned that they recognise the need to take possible changes into account before committing themselves to any increase in employees of the company and being prepared for having to make alterations to their existing contractual material. I hope this will enable members to spot referral opportunities for me.
See you all next week
A great meeting especially as our guest this week looks like she’ll be joining us to fill a recent gap in our membership.
Aidan, not sure that’s quite what I said, at least it wasnt what I thought I’d said, but alas, we have no video for me to go back and re-watch. Come back Mike… we look forward to your return soon…
Sounds like another good meet, and look forward to being back and providing VAR support again next week!
Yay!! See you soon Mike 😀
Great meeting, great Ed Slot, great 10 minutes, great visitor. It was all grrrrreat!
Tony the Tiger!! 😀
Great meeting at Calcott Hall Farm today. Nick Cooke’s education slot was superb, emphasizing the risk of taking on work beyond your expertise. Aidan’s 10-minute section was also excellent, perfectly demonstrating the vital need for Aidan and Terry when dealing with employment matters.
Agreed, John.
Despite being a bit “under the weather” it was a great meeting. I’ll be back at 100% next week though!
Bless – well done for attending!
Thank you all for a great meeting.
Aidan, your ten minutes was superb and so informative, and love reading your blogs, thank you!

Sounds like I missed a great meeting! Lovely to hear we may have a new member, I can’t wait to meet them. Well done Jane, Clara, Blake and John on your appointments. See you all next week.
Thanks Leann – we missed you!
Great meeting. I had a nice chat with our visitor in the car park after the meeting and she seems keen to join.
Excellent and engaging 10 minuets from Aidan.
Well you did the trick because an application from the lovely lady, arrived!
Great meeting again. Aidan’s very informative 10 minutes confirmed to me that remaining a one woman show is the best choice for me!
Great job Aidan. I’m going to need a consultation with you about this subject.
Well done one and all – from Nick’s introductory Food For Thought through to Aidan’s fascinating topic of incoming rules and regulations for employers. Oh my! Great that Leann topped the leader board too – fantastic. Also loved meeting our visitor, Sarah. 😀
