Terry Maylin talked to us all about landlords and tennants, and Ben Golding (with assistants) demonstrated how we all interpret instructions differently

A Greggs morning which means a sausage bap which does not measure up to the usual ‘Banger in Brown’. Still, we were 20 with a visitor and some serious networking was done by 7.10 am.

Performance League

Dave Roberts was out front with 180 points with Mike Skinner and Matt Barry snapping at his heels. His absence this week might prove crucial.

Education Slot

Ben Golding was in his element selecting 5 ‘victims’ with their eyes shut to exercise origami skills. With the same instructions they folded, and they tore and produced 5 different shapes. The same message is not interpreted in the same way. Are you getting your message over in your business. This was a living metaphor. Toby Acton continues to be challenged but he did not appear to be sufficiently awake to notice!

60-Second Presentation Round

It was my turn to adjudicate so I contented myself with warning that we all die and some of us lose our marbles therefore do something about it.

Toby Acton had been away for the weekend and had done 80,000 steps. Unless they are short steps there are about 2,000 steps in a mile so 40 miles a day for 4 days….10 miles a day. No wonder he slept in!! Whilst I am on stats.; there are 275 days to August Bank Holiday when everyone apparently gets married which of course is Christmas to Paul Dulieu.

We were perhaps still too close to the Budget to draw any sensible conclusions, certainly Clara Downton and Howard Bullock had not drawn any and Paul Booth was still trying to digest the veritable smorgasbord presented by Rache yesterday.

Jane Malyon is disappointed that her snowy owl is not flying off the English Cream Tea Company’s shelves. It’s the huge Christmas Tree Brownie that the punters prefer.

As far as the Oscar was concerned, there were eventually three contenders. Matt Barry was offering free social media guidance for members and Sarah Smith was emphasising the flexibility of her services for hard pressed business owners, but it was Blake Hammond who was the eventual winner with an opportunistic use of Ben’s Ed Slot message to draw a parallel with AI and the services that he can supply. Light on his feet or what…

Meeting Secretaries Report

Scott Griffiths was able to announce 15 new referral opportunities, and over £28,500.00 worth of business recorded this week. Good numbers!

10-Minute Presentation by Terry Maylin

The Government is a gift that just keeps giving. In this instance the new Renters Rights Bill will be law in May 2026 and although it’s something of a Curates Egg it is a cause for concern for Landlords. Terry told us what it is now and what it will be like in May. He felt it necessary to issue a corporal Jones like warning……don’t panic Mr Landlord! The worry is in the title, ‘Renters’

Referrals and Testimonials Round

Lots of business passed and the sun was shining on us as we departed

Great meeting! Ben’s origami challenge was a brilliant way to show how differently we all interpret things. Terry’s update on the landlord reforms was really insightful, too. I really look forward to these meetings. And would recommend this group to any buisness looking at networking beacuse we are also a group of freinds as well
