It was a day that took us one step closer to when virtuality will become reality. Yes, today was the day when we were able to announce the 7th October 2021 to be the projected date for the resumption after 18 months of a real live meeting. There will be a more detailed presentation next week when hopefully that date can be positively confirmed. The auspiciousness of the occasion was underlined with a bright sunny morning.
The Performance League
Stuart Smallcombe is out front with John freeman in second place and plenty more getting beyond the 100 mark. Let’s try and catch up on all our postings, particularly for monies received before the end of the month.
Education Presentation
Sarah Bell looked back nine years to a special needs child who was scratching and biting whenever she could and when she got home was drinking litres of water. A team effort produced the answer from out of the box that she was just thirsty and needed help to maintain her intake of water throughout the day. This group solution has applications for business to take nothing for granted, to accept that everything might not be as it seemed and to think out of the box.
Membership Matters
Terry Maylin conveyed the sad news for the group that David Plumley is retiring. Ill health has restricted his involvement with the group since lockdown and with the prospect of live meetings restarting he feels unable to fulfil his commitments to the meeting. He will be a hard act to follow but an immediate consequence of his retirement is that we must find someone to replace him in providing IT services.
The 60 Second Round
Jane Malyon was judging the Oscar and started us off by introducing her vegan treats which includes clotted cream without a cow insight.
The usual suspects were at less traditional locations. John Hammond was back in Liverpool. The the early part of the meeting treated us to a view of him eating his full English breakfast wearing a hard hat. Various views of Liverpool ensued and after losing him for a while we got him back just in time to deliver his 60 seconds at the end of the round. Alan Moller was once more parked outside a Co-op looking extremely relaxed in his van. Scott Griffiths had a virtual background that included a clock showing the time at 2:35. Paul Booth by contrast was neither on his desert island nor viewing the Aurora Borealis from some northern vantage point. Nick Cooke was in his usual den but this week, with the door open, we could see up the stairs
As to the presentations themselves, Allan Moller claimed to be producing something more educational for us by talking about a hybrid solar panel system that heated water directly from the panels and therefore saved on gas. Very appropriate at the moment as Ben Golding explained about the current energy prices prices and suppliers going bust. We were assured that Utility Warehouse was rock solid and indeed was offering deals for those who came across having lost their suppliers
Terry Maylin has been receiving lots of instructions from different clients to recover money. Is this a sign of the upturn in the economy that we’ve all been promised?
Toby Acton produced his wheel of life and wheel of business which, if you are dealing with things with proper balance, should produce two wheels within two wheels that look like wheels if you see what I mean.
Brian Painter is about to leave for Lanzarote but when he gets back he has the prospect of an 8 year old who won’t “let go” of her pooh. He’ll probably need a holiday after his first session with her. This week we celebrated rhyme. Last week Paul Dulieu produced his credentials for barddom I had named him the Bard of Brentwood but I’ve rethought things after his performance today. He should henceforth be known as Rudyard of Rayleigh. Certainly the lady who produces very fine cakes and scones seemed to approve of his Kiplingesque verse and awarded him the Oscar. It was a tight head victory with Vincent Goode. The Mayor of Gants Hill produced A Wordsworth like description celebrating the many and varied virtues of Speedprint.
Scott Griffiths produced a simple way of getting him referrals by simply checking out the emails you receive and making sure that the senders have got a proper business like email addresses. If they haven’t sent them to Scott
A lively 60 second round.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Scott Griffiths urged us to enter our activities on the website and in particular ‘thanks for the money’. It is an essential part of our statistical profile that this is done. Its significance perhaps is emphasised by the fact that I have mentioned it twice in this blog.
Synergy Team Meeting
Brian Painter reported upon the Business to Consumer meeting that was held at the George and Dragon, sitting outside in the sunshine, seven of us in total. It’s nice to get the synergy team meetings back on track again.
10-minute presentation by Colin O’Connor
Colin O’Connor produced an exemplary 10 minutes. It is easy to lose sight of why you do your 10 minutes presentation. Colin’s was a clear illustration of why. He set out the reasons for health and safety legislation with some stunning statistics on death, injury, hours lost and in particular £16 billion per annum for the economy as a whole. He then set out exactly the areas that he could produce expertise in so far as health and safety was concerned, what he does and how he does it. We all we’re left in no doubt of how we can find him referrals.
Referrals & Testimonials Round
The performance league earlier demonstrated a more lively response to the to giving of referrals and this round cemented the notion that things are looking up.
I look forward to seeing you all next week when we are having what might be the last virtual meeting before we start in the flesh.
Excellent meeting, well done Sarah and Colin, food for thought there.
I’ve invited a couple of IT visitors for next week.
Well done one and all! It was fun to judge the 60 second round 😀
Well done Colin that was an excellent 10 minute presentation and I loved Sarah’s Ed slot
Good lively referral round-the thought of getting back to live meetings seems to have galvanised people!
Sarah’s ed slot was about clear communication which is so important. Great verse from Paul. Very concise presentation from our safety man. A good meeting all round. Have a good weekend. See ya!
