Our second week at Hutton Cricket Club saw a turnout again of 20 members. In Neil Bellham’s absence, his lady wife did the honours with the food. Fortunately, I did not discover the fried bread until after I had eaten, for which my cholesterol levels duly thanked me. Several stand-ins today, namely Terry Maylin for Scott Griffiths as meeting secretary as well as his role supervising membership matters and me for Ben Golding who for health reasons is going to be absent for a couple of months. Best wishes and get well soon Ben!
The Performance League
Some of us were missing from the list but the top three were Matt Barry, Scott Griffiths and Paul Dulieu
Education Presentation
It was Colin O’Connor who entertained us this morning with an illustration of how, when you are selling something, you should listen as well as talk. His wife, who we all know as Aileen was addressed by a salesman, despite repeated corrections, as Caroline. It follows that he found it difficult to get anybody to take him and his product seriously.
Membership Matters
Mike Rogers has renewed for one more year. He did the same last year and hopefully we’ll do the same next year.
The 60 Second Round
Sabbaticals had absented Richard Reed for three months and more recently Howard Bullock. Both were back. Richard Reid is now getting clients across his virtual threshold and Howard Bullock was explaining how he dealt with clients who were cash rich other than simply by envying them. Another absent face from our meetings has been Blake Hammond and he turned up, complete with props. An alarm system suitable for the protection to vehicles.
Toby Acton was back in the fold after last weeks absence and this week he was producing a rather complicated simile rather than a metaphor. Business can be like birth, death or marriage; start-up, exit or merger was his likening theme. Sarah Steele produced a little more than a simple rhyme about her business. It was more like a reworking of Beowulf and she acknowledged that Rudyard of Rayleigh had a passing involvement in its content and style.
For those of you who are not regular readers of Woman’s Weekly should rush out and buy one. Aunty Jane Malyon apparently can be found there along with Anita Dobson. The Queen of Cream Teas met a former inmate of the Queen Vic who of course in real life is married to a former member of Queen. We should all assess our reactions to being in the presence of greatness… Well, at least we should buy a cream tea.
Terry Maylin made use of the principle of, ‘scare them to death and they’ll come to you’. He produced 3 pages of detail relating to requirements for the service of a notice to evict a tenant. Don’t do it yourself, go to the professional.
Paul Dulieu was bemoaning corporate jargon and managed to get through the series of examples without actually mentioning the value of picking low hanging fruit.
Brian Painter has been dealing with a man who panics every time there is a knock on the door having experienced the door being broken down by two men with sledgehammers. It was a relief to then hear Paul booth talking about tax relief
Mike Skinner presented himself for the first time to a live meeting and used it as an opportunity to review what he does for a living. His a succinct explanation earned him the Oscar.
This weeks statistics and points of note
Once again Terry Maylin did the honours and was able to report another week of business passed in excess of £17,000 and 13 new referrals
Synergy Team Report
Brian Painter reported on Tuesday’s meeting at the George and Dragon at Mountnessing where from the comments made by the attendees showed that a good time was had by all.
10-minute presentation by Howard Bullock
Howard Bullock produced a quiz and Colin O’Connor proved that he had listened to Howard Howard’s 60 second presentations by getting 11 out of the 13 questions right which earned him what appeared to be a rather cheeky bottle of white.
Referrals & Testimonials Round
Befitting the good numbers reported by Terry there were plenty of referrals and monies received slips another successful meeting. Hopefully the governments management of the pandemic will enable us to continue our live encounters.
Good to meet everyone properly. Lovely vibe in the face to face meetings
Great meeting so good to see the new members enjoying the meeting and seeing how much better it is than the zoom meeting!
