21 members and one visitor, Peter Withers plumber, were in attendance with a beautifully sunny morning as a backdrop and the prospect of plenty of referrals in contemplation.
The Performance League
After two weeks Neil Bellham is out front with 186 points closely followed by Terry Maylin and Jane Malyon jointly were in second place and I feel bound to report that third place taken found me. There are however a further two weeks to go so anything can happen. A new member joining might just swing it for Vince?
Education Presentation
It was our education and development officer himself who delivered this week’s homily. His subject was bang on topic for this month, namely giving yourself the best chance to make referrals by listening, one step more advanced than simply hearing. Of course, a weekly opportunity to both hear and listen is very much part of the 60 second round and he was it pains to point out the importance of memory hooks to draw members attention to your presentation.
Membership Matters
Terry Maylin reported Vince Goode was up for renewal and the matters were progressing.
The 60 Second Round
Toby Acton who was this week’s judge and jury started the proceedings so that he could listen to as well as hear the presentations. With Ben Golding’s guidance still ringing in our ears members got on with their presentations. there were two Mikes missing but Mike Skinner kept their collective ends up by very much specifying his particular current needs, namely an opportunity to add videos to blogs content on websites.
James Humphreys, usually pitching for commercial insurance, also is looking for household type insurance. This week he produced suitable insurance for an ebike that could do 50 miles an hour. A word in the ear of the cyclist, stick to pedal power, would have been to no avail and his insurance hit the spot.
Ben Golding, to illustrate the benefit that Utility Warehouse produces for its customers to enable them to earn money, laid out before us all the ways in which things are “on the up” in our economy. Profoundly depressing even though Utility Warehouse offers something of a light at the end of the tunnel. Neil Bellham also started off with recent losses of business that he had suffered but went out on to hit a high note by informing us that in the next two to three weeks Chilli Republic will be up and running.
You only get what you pay for appeared to be a theme for both John Hammond and Stuart Smallcombe. Stuart Smallcombe explained that the private Internet, whilst more expensive provided speed and stability that the public service does not provide. John Hammond confirmed that he won an order by producing the best solution even though it was more expensive than his competitors. This certainly hit the spots with Toby Acton who awarded him the Oscar.
John Freeman has been complaining over recent 60 second presentations that suppliers are finding it difficult to get items and the prices have rocketed. Vincent Goode had similar complaints about the printing trade and surprise surprise, paper in the main comes from paper mills in Russia. Apart from stretching his linguistic abilities he is concerned about supplies of paper on an ongoing basis.
Paul Dulieu and Scott Griffiths have been working together on various projects and they both produced a presentation with offered plaudits to the other. The heavenly twins!!
Order was finally restored, and the world seemed more like the place we have come to recognise, when Brian Painter produced a rather frightening list of poisons that you would not want to have passing through your body in any shape or form and then revealing that this was in fact what smokers were ingesting by having a fag.
Meeting Secretaries Report
Scott Griffiths once again reminded us that this month the referrer of the month would be awarded for the first time.
- 21 members present
- 1 visitor Peter Withers
- Referrals passed 16
- Business recorded £13,000
- Oscar winner John Hammond
10-minute presentation by Emma Taylor
This week’s presenter was our new member Emma Taylor who gave a very confident display. She objects to people eating with their mouths open. I would tend to also include speaking . She appears to like expresso martini and she met Gordon Ramsay and didn’t find him scary. Most revealing was that she likes an afternoon nap.
She describes herself as operating a Property Concierge Service and talked with enthusiasm about the pricing triangle and gave us an insight into her operating techniques. It was an excellent presentation and demonstrated how useful an addition she will be to the group.
Referrals and Testimonials Round
We are now getting back into the swing of things and after the Referrals and Testimonial round we indulged ourselves in a Referral Reality Check and we maintained the Speakers Prize from last week as what will now become a regular feature of our meeting
Another very pleasantly successful get together.
Another enjoyable and informative (thank you Emma) meeting. Not all Household policies will be in our wheelhouse but always happy to have a look/chat and let you know if it’s worth twisting or sticking. Notable moment was Toby’s confession of being an accomplished “Wanger”!
I forgot to ask Paul D for his opinion on that one!
Great 10 minutes Emma, really cleared up what you do differently. Good meeting, but someone ate my sausage sandwich and this ruined my week
