30 Members assembled, full of anticipation for the themed 60-second round suggested by this week’s Oscar adjudicator, the Mayor of Gants Hill.
The Performance League
Mike Rogers remains out front followed by Scott Griffiths and Terry Maylin.
Education Presentation
Stuart Smallcombe always has something thoughtful to impart and this week was no different. His theme was hiring, retaining and keeping happy staff. He had a 5 point formula that dealt with selection, finding out about them and being sensitive to their needs or ideas. This is the formula for a happy ship and dealing with Stuart and his company certainly confirms that impression
The 60 Second Round
Vincent Goode did not indulge in his suggested theme of a film character who reflects you or your business…unless there is a luvvy with the name Polyurethane Product.
Unusual locations this week were occupied by William Verner, in a car in a golf course car park and Alan Moller, in a house where he was due to perform his electrickery .
There was very definitely an air of entering into the spirit of things. A selection included Kieron Peaty as Master and Commander; Dean Caldon, Maverick, Nathan Howson as all of the A-Team and Colin O’Conner as the Invisible Man. Toby Acton was all of Michael Palin’s characters in “Life of Brian”, a deep dive if ever there was one and it wasn’t a bad impression by him of said actor but Simon Essex’s Seymour was unsurpassed.
The ladies present were a little more whimsical; Alison Bean chose ET because he listened to Elliot, Sarah Bell was Mary Poppins and Sarah Steel was Bond characters Moneypenny, M and Q all rolled into one. Tina was not Dolly Parton as she is not 9 to 5
Paul Booth used The Good the Bad and the Ugly as a generalization of what he was looking for in new clients.
Mike Rogers was Action Man because of all the mortgages he has had to deal with this week and Terry Maylin was the Terminator. Pride of place and well deserved Oscar Winner however was Neil Bellham with an all action depiction of Super Man’s younger brother where he catered for all of the adjudicator’s requirements.
Meeting Secretaries Report
After Scott’s offer to update all of our business descriptions on the Web Site only Sarah Bell had taken him up on his offer. I will try and do better this week and hopefully so will you all. He also reported lots of referrals and £10,000+ of business recorded this week.
10-minute presentation by Marc Robinson
It was Marc Robinson’s debut and very good it was to. His story from boyhood to date helped illustrate very clearly why he is doing what he is doing and why he is so much better off doing it. From this naturally flows how much we could all benefit from using his services. It was a very effective performance.
A brilliant meeting, as always. Stuart’s Ed slot was superb and he is clearly a boss who knows how to recruit and motivate staff, Marc’s 10 minutes was excellent and Neil’s Oscar win was well deserved (albeit the image of him in his Superchef pants is likely to haunt me for a while). Have a great week everyone!
Such an enjoyable meeting even if my impression of Hugh Grant / Harry Enfield was totally cringeworthy!
An awesome oscar winning performce by Neil and great 10 minutes from Marc.
All in all – a very enjoyable meeting
I was cringeing with you Matty but Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) would have loved it
It was pretty embarrassing 🙂 But good effort.
Well done Marc on your first 10 minute presentation at EBF!
Very good Ed slot Stuart and the less said about the 60 seconds round the better I think!!
A great 60 seconds but I’ve spent most of the day trying to erase from my mind the image of Neil wearing his pants outside of his trousers!
Great 10 minute presentation Marc and great ed slot too Stuart. Unfortunately I can’t get Neil in his pink shorts out of my head LOL. Have a great weekend everyone and see you all next Thursday
Great presentation Marc, and great recruitment drive Stuart!
Neil clearly warranted the Oscar for his total discard of dignity for the sake of comedy!
I had intended to give my 60 seconds accompanied by a famous films title song unfortunately the technology failed at the last moment, sod’s law!!
However, most other members did a brilliant job with their themed efforts and the whole meeting well very well.
Praise must also go to Stuart for his Ed Slot and to Marc for his first 10mts.
Just watched the video of the meeting while Blake drove. Looks and sounds like I missed a great meeting. Have a great week end every one and “Lets be careful out there”
Great lively meeting with lots of creative 60 seconds by film fans.
Another fantastic meeting, with a great Ed Slot from Stuart. I thoroughly enjoyed Marc’s presentation of his journey to yoga as a career.
Well done everyone … you were all practically perfect in every way!
The most liveliest meeting of the year, what a creative lot we are! I’m glad I didn’t have to judge the winner60 seconds winner of the 60 msecs round
Thank you all for contributing to the themed 60 secs. Some of you clearly put quite some thought into it. It should be noted that Toby’s impersonation of Michael Palin at the end of his 60 secs was worthy of the real Oscar! I didn’t participate in the themed round, as I had already made a dick of myself the previous week with the Austin Powers debacle. Apologies to Simon for describing his “Seymour” as horrific, it was just a little worrying x
Great meeting everyone, well done Marc on your first 10 minutes. Another good thing about all the new members is we don’t have to listen to all us old timers over and over again!
