The first meeting of the New Year and a very good meeting it was.
23 Members present and one visitor from the Wildlife Trust.
The Performance League
Ellen Beckenham was the worthy winner of last months League; a birthday and a cold unfortunately kept her away,ย her certificate is here for next week.
Education Presentation
Jill Willis produced a rather more detailed offering than is normally the case.ย Her theme was social media.ย As we look forward to the New Year we should make sure that we represent ourselves on social media.ย The four areas are Twitter, Linked In, Face Book and Instagram; she dealt with their detriments and benefits.ย Her final rallying call wasโ be inspirationalโ. Worthy thoughts for the beginning of a new year.
New Member Induction
Always a pleasure to induct a new member.ย Simon Essex was this weekโs most recent victim.ย Welcome Simon.
The 60 Second Round
With a theme of the New Yearโs resolutions that we might have for our businesses.
Ben Golding kicked off and his message was emphasised by the much-appreciated turquois pig lighting up our lives.
Alan Moller has just been updated with the new regulations that have come into force this month.ย Apparently, he attended a 3-day training course and is therefore ready for anything.
Kevin Radford was positively on the prowl for new business. If you have dealt direct over house insurance send him details of your household insurance and he will see if he can beat it.
Matt Barry is looking to expand into local businesses and new start-ups for the year however John Freeman is unchanged wanting โquick in and outโ if possible.
Jill Willis whose Ed Slot was directed towards her knowledge of her business also declared that last year she wrote 150,000 words.ย I have problems counting the number of words for a Blog, an amazing calculation.ย It will be interesting to see how many she does this year and compare them in a yearsโ time.
Terry Maylin produced leaflets for you all, advertising TM Lawโs wares. He was particularly keen to point out my updated photograph, apparently a photograph on earlier leaflets ย gave the impression of a sixties porn star.ย Outed, in one fell scoop!ย His initial suggestion was that I looked like aย fiftiesย porn star but even I am not that oldโฆ. it was in the late sixties and early seventies that I made my name.ย I must assure everybody that I retired in the early eighties.
Mike Rogers was in reflective mood.ย He revealed that his wife had warned him against appearing in his 60 second presentations as being a grumpy old git.ย Despite his best endeavours ,he did nothing to dispel this impression.ย Itโs nice to know that some things never change.
The Naughty Corner were on good form.ย Stuart Smallcombe has been inclined to grapple with tenants expectations as to the speed of their internet.ย Apparently half a megabit will not create very good performance.ย He is into gigabits now however, and that will solve the problems. Howard Bullock was positively whimsical over everything that he had forgotten over the Christmas/New Year holiday break.ย The good news, he remembered his name and no doubt will go on to remember more as the year progresses.ย Dean Caldonโs explanation as to how he locked himself out of a property won him the Oscar and the amusement of all members.
John Hammond was positive in looking for intercom systems to assist with control of access.
Tina Walkerโs resolution is to be more involved with Linked-in.ย Richard Reedโs resolution was much more homely.ย He is looking to cut down on sugar.ย He must decide whether his attraction to members and his use as a travel adviser is based upon his sweetness.
Toby Acton, as a business coach, is very interested in finding out what everybodyโs New Yearโs resolutions were and how he can help people achieve their goals.

Synergy Team Meeting
Paul reported on the Finance Groups meeting on Tuesday of this week.ย Members who have no attended Synergy Meetings, were encouraged to come along and try it at least once.
10-minute presentation by Anna Marie Cooper
I was Anna Marieโs turn this week and as well as putting photographs of various of her subjects around the walls she had a slide show available and produced a quiz that left us all scratching our heads.ย The highlight of her presentation was a description of the contents of her photography bag that she takes with her when ever she goes to take photographs,ย Silk gloves for when it is cold, stiletto covers to enable brides to walk on the grass to have their photos taken, plastic bag for fuzzy views and so on, highly entertaining presentation.ย We now know not only the things that she will do but also the things she wonโt do.ย Apparently she would not be interested in trying to help me revive my porn star career, but on reflection perhaps wise.
Referrals and testimonials round
28 referrals and the amount of money recorded led to a very positive and fruitful round.
Terry Maylin as well as outing me also announced to the meeting Alan Shawโs retirement.ย I personally found it a devastating announcement given how important to me he is a source of inspiration for my Blog. He was at the heart of the School of Whimsey and I will miss him.ย More than that I might very well disband the School of Whimsey, but do not feel too relaxed about this, I will be creating other cliques for your amusement.
Let us see next week if we can up our numbers.
There are some things that you cant un-see, and now that I’ve created this image of Aidan I think its gonna stay with me for a while.
Fun lively meeting as always. Well done Anna Marie for a great presentation and Jill for a good ed-slot. See you all next week
A very upbeat meeting for a cold and frosty morning all started by Jill who I was lucky enough to be sitting next to and I actually think she transferred a small part of her positivity to me (its run out now though) . A very enjoyable (and informative )60 second round , and Dean was a deserved winner of the Oscar for getting locked in the house and it was all followed by an excellent presentation by Anne Marie. Well done everyone.
A positive meeting and great 10 minutes from Anna-Marie. Welcome to Simon and welcome back everyone else.
Excellent turnout for such a chilly morning
Great Ed slot from Jill Willis and Great 10 minutes from Anna Marie!
The merry roundabout starts for another year, I hope beneficial for all. (Did you know that Benny Fischal is a lawyer already?)
Good to see a new member and a guest. Sorry to hear of the passing of Alan Shaw.
Congrats to Anna Marie for a great presentation. Well done to Dean for winning the Oscar for all the wrong reasons! Brilliant!
Sorry I missed the meeting. Man-flu. And before you start dismissing this, I have never felt so close to death. Good news, I should be back to full fitness by next week. I shall miss Alan Shawโs contribution to the group. A real gentleman
Great first meeting of 2019!!
Lots of laughs with loads of business being passed around!! ( though I might be having reoccurring bad dreams about the image of Aiden )
Brilliant presentation from Anna-Marie! She really does capture amazing moments for a lifetime of memories!
Are you hinting at a new tag line for me Ben? ‘ a lifetime of memories’ – it was good, but not the one :o)

Great meeting and also a very creative and fun presentation from Anna Marie. Huge congratulations to Ellen for winning the performance league. Well done to Dean for getting locked in and subsequently winning the Oscar. See everyone next week.
Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words, I’m so glad you enjoyed my mish mash of info!
So sad that Ellen wasn’t there to enjoy her birthday with us and celebrate her huge win. Hope you get better soon Ellen.
Alan will be sadly missed. I am very glad he has not ‘passed’ – Terry had me on edge for many moments and I could see Jill was also struggling with the fake news!
See you next time.
An excellent start to our new year. An Ed slot rom Jill that David will find hard to top all year, witty and informative 60 seconds, a great 10mts from Anna-Marie and a new member inducted (shame that we had to stop the usual whipping with thorn bushes though) but… and this is a big BUT… I think that you’ll find “creating a lifetime of memories” is MINE!!
PS: Alan Shaw is still with us, it was his retirement we announced.
I knew it rang a bell!! Can I not be your twin?
its great to be back!
