Meeting Thursday 8th March 2012
Just enough seats – great turn out – 29 members, 1 visitor, Veronica Dembanezi. Her Company provides security services. Hopefully the interest she expressed in the meeting will translate into something more positive.
Talking about new members, we are pleased to welcome Andy Smith who was duly inducted – that’s 3 in 3 weeks. Our membership is now up to 35 even with the sad loss of John Tisshaw and his liquid products. When looking for a replacement, please err on the side of a wine merchant. Wine is so much more sipable than aloe vera – I am told.
Like the making of a crocodile sandwich, the 60 second round was snappy as was befitting the number of participants. It also had its moments. Running through the presentations was an animal theme started by Kevin Radford’s giraffe followed promptly by John Probert’s pig. Messrs. Bulloch and Bird maintained the illusion that David Attenborough might arrive at any moment and I was personally grateful to the thoughtfulness of all members not making mention of sharks. Richard Reed, last week’s worthy Oscar winner, showed that he was listening by giving a brief run down of the 60 seconds that had impressed him – or not as the case may be – before awarding the Oscar to Colin Beckett for his illustration of a project that he is involved with. Congratulations Colin.
It is nice to welcome Marcelle back from her globe trotting looking horribly fit and well. It is only jealously that prompts me to remark, but I hope she will be with us long enough to lose her tan before she embarks on her next trip.
Sarada’s absence gave Anita Reynolds a chance to usurp her position as queen of props. Chris Smythe had the best view of a flat pack box being opened before his very eyes – or was it under his very nose?
The 10 minutes was very much the David Plumley show. He maintained the animal theme by confirming the names of his 2 cats, to be fair he also named his wife and his children, so a balance was struck. His presentation was very professionally done and befitting an IT engineer, but perhaps when the images froze from time to time this not only showed that David is human enough to be affected by IT problems, but that as an IT engineer he is also able to correct them. A first class performance.
If the 60 second round was good, the referral and testimonials round was excellent.
Scott reported £28,043.00 as the value of recorded business passed this week and there were 36 referrals. Chris Smythe, Kevin Radford and Steven Carmichael-Brown being the notable referrers.
May I remind you all of Scott’s special announcement – please send in a one sentence description of your business and about 5 tweets relating to your business (tweets being limited to 140 characters).
Keep the visitors coming – see you all next week.
