Chairman’s Business Networking Blog Tuesday 15th July 2014.
Several returning from holiday produced 18 members and 3 guests. Ian Stanley for the last time as he was inducted as a new member and the Chrises Vernon who have applied to join. They have been accepted by the committee and therefore will be members next week. With Ian Nicholson’s announcement that he might have found a photographer, let’s keep up the good work in attracting visitors and therefore potentially new members, well done everybody.
In the light of the position regarding new members the performance league as announced by Scott is likely to change as the month progresses but currently the leader is Jim Henshaw.
Hugo Heij made a guest appearance in the presentation of the Ed Slot. The problem with giving this job to a professional, you get a professional job done. Nothing wrong with that you might say, indeed Hugo’s presentation was excellent. I have got drawings all over my notes to prove it and I now feel able to distinguish between urgent important, non urgent important, urgent not important and not urgent and not important, the latter being, amongst other things, watching telly in the evening. No, the problem is that a 3 minute slot turns into a 10 minute slot; but thanks very much Hugo, none of us like being reminded of our failings but being aware of them perhaps makes it easier to sleep at night…or heaven forfend, do something about it!!!!
With Hugo’s encouragement ringing in our ears we hit the 60 second round.
Highlights? 1 or 2 things stuck in my mind !
Brian Painter returned from holiday; crashing jumbo jets appeared on the horizon as he gleefully equated the numbers of the annual death rate from smoking being equivalent to 1 jumbo jet crashing for every day of the year, so put that in your pipe and…..Brian of course has been away for a couple of weeks and it was refreshing to be reminded of unpleasant consequences provided it is sufficiently long after the breakfast has been digested.
Fred Harcourt was also back from holiday telling us about the slightly retro for coving, even polystyrene favoured by his customers. This of course is a fire hazard and probably responsible for at least 1 jumbo jet full of passengers a year.
Doctor Deb is still looking for extra terrestrials from the planet Vega, you can spot them because they have cauliflower ears and carrots for noses. Anyway if you do spot one, send it to her.
Anne Clarke told us of bronze silver and gold packages that Redwood Clarke are now offering to potential clients. I must arrange a 1-2-1 with her and find out full details of this as I wasn’t able to get the details down and it would certainly assist with the giving of referrals.
Christine was all excited…she is going on holiday!!! (please remember this, I will be testing you later on in the Blog); thanks very much Christine for the paper pads for the back of our folders, a very useful and helpful addition to our folders.
Paul Lefever is looking for old fuse boards, let’s not disappoint, we can keep our eyes open for them whilst we are looking for inhabitants from the planet Vega. An opportunity for a double referral.
It was Hugo’s turn to win the Oscar this week and his 60 second therefore deserves analysis.
First, he declared himself Hugo Heij from Holland, for those of us who like alliteration, he caught our attention. He had the good grace not to mention that people from Holland play football rather better than people from his adopted country.
Secondly, he then tried to explain why we should do things that we are not good at.
Thirdly, it all sort of linked with his Ed Slot. Unfair advantage you might say; no more unfair than having someone called Van Persie who can produce superb diving headers playing for your national team. He did not have to refer to urgency and importance in our daily lives, he had already done that – well done Hugo.
Nothing memorable otherwise to report in relation to the 60 second round other than…..wait for it….. Christine won’t be with us next week as she will be on holiday !!!!
In the absence of a 10 minute speaker we had a very interesting Q and A. that helped expand on some of the earlier 60 second offerings. Look out for the list of 10 min. speakers that Brian is compiling and check your availability when you get it.
Christine was so excited that in an attempt to calm her down she was given the job of runner in the Referrals Round. And a very good one it was too. Nine referrals and £2750s worth of business recorded. Let’s try and improve on both next week despite the fact that Christine will be on …..yes you guessed it, HOLIDAY.
Good meeting yesterday guys….Hugo was as always entertaining and thought provoking….and thanks again for the plug re Pensions…..the cheque will be in the post! As Aidan said I hopefully have a photographer to join. She is the daughter of one of the guys at the golf club and she is just starting out. She’s away on holiday at the moment…but i’m hoping she’ll come alone when she’s back.
I’m also hoping she’s not on Brian’s plane!
Have a great week all…………..and did you know Christine is on holiday next week!!!
Ian
Oh… and in case anyone missed it… I’m on holiday now for two weeks! LOL
Great news on the referrals and business recorded!
To all in the group… those who didn’t get pads, don’t panic – I’ll bring along another batch upon my return (booooo – not trying to think about that too much) – wouldn’t want you to miss out.
I’m sure you’ll all miss me… (really? I hear you all cry)… but if you need anything printed, or have job ongoing at present – virtual Chris is available at; sales@kestrel-printing.co.uk – she answers to the name John until I get back… if you forget – you’ll get my out of office as a reminder of who to contact.
x
Thanks for the blog and comment. And now get back to your non urgent, and important stuff!!!! 🙂
An enjoyable meeting as always. Anne and I discussed the next planned social event after the meeting. She will reveal all next week!
I have some more holiday snaps but unlike Anne I will NOT be revealing all next week, you’ve seen enough already!!
Great meeting. Entertaning, educational and good to see new members and guests
Does anyone know if Christine will be attending tomorrow? I seem to remember her saying something about a holiday?
