Chairman’s Blog – Meeting Thursday 31st January 2013
29 members present, 1 guest – electrician Mark Buckley – a good turn out.
Notable contributions in the 60 second round included Jamie Harrison’s ode to “renewable energy”, but it did not include the tag line “…turns sunshine into pounds”. Nick Cooke, however, took up this particular challenge by boasting that he could turn “…bedrooms into lofts”. Think of the joy of being able to go to the very top of your house and be able to bang your head on all of those awkward beams and possibly also run the risk of being able to put your foot through the ceiling rather than having a bedroom there. Apparently the Client was happy.
Chris Sadler was back, he had been shooting a video in Tenerife. Let’s see if we can go out and find him some referrals even further afield.
Mike Rogers was at his curmudgeonly best, grumbling about always being hungry on Thursdays….which reminds me, the scrambled egg was particularly good this week – 2 mushrooms completely disappeared from view at one stage.
Congratulations to Kim Douglas for braving the meeting and not eating breakfast being on what I understand was a pre blood test starvation regime. I bet she thinks twice before making a similar arrangement.
Geoff Todd bemoaned the disappearance of the snow, but in its absence he has been “leaf blowing”. I can’t dispel the image of Geoff on his hands and knees….blowing.
If Jamie Harrison threw down the gauntlet with her ode, it was not taken up on this occasion by the Bard of Hadleigh who instead regaled us with the attempts that he had made to get his Wife to use lager as a face cream. If he is not careful he will finish up looking for another sleeping partner which is exactly what Paul Booth was looking for, but in his case it was sleeping partners. This is from a man who regularly gets to our meeting for 5.40 a.m!
So who won the Oscar? Richard Reed of course – enticing us all with offers of safari holidays and if anyone should doubt the correctness of the award please note that he received a referral on the strength of it.
Adrian Crossdale’s 60 seconds was simply an introduction to the much coveted 10 minute slot. It was useful to get a run down on what is his new business and what it has to offer as well as giving us all an idea of how many hot dinners we would have to consume before we had overtaken the number of jobs he had previously had.
By way of further enlightenment some of the highlights of his 10 minute session (no puns intended) included the light bulb that could be hit with a hammer, but no demonstration and Nick Cooke in the question session afterwards fondly remembering a light bulb that he had once owned…..presumably it illuminated his loft.
Well that’s about it for this week. We begin a new month next Thursday. Let’s have another good turn out.
A very good meeting. I am going to be a bit controversial here – bring back the fried egg or let’s have a poached egg. Scrambled egg quality is too variable.
Yes I 100% absolutely agree. Fried eggs would be excellent. If this gets enough “yes please” votes then i’ll ask the chef.
A well fried egg sunny side up is always a joy to behold. So yes – let’s see if chef is agreeable.
Eggcelent. Thank you Scott (sorry I hate to be a bad egg but that’s a David Plumley joke)
A great turn out to this weeks meeting and even if Jamie’s ode deserved better reward for her efforts and Kevins joke about 24 cans of lager achieving the same success when looking at his wife as her very expensive face cream it was my “Safari Offers” based 60 seconds that secured me a very good referral.
I never was one for poetry myself.
It was really good to be back, and very happy I came. Room full of positivity you wouldn’t have known it was still winter.
Roll on next week, a new month and more business support.

To add to the eggy comments … Yes, at least with fried eggs to can be sure you are getting EGGS!… no way to add milk or water.
Great meeting BTW and excellent turnout. Let’s all remember to have at least 1-2-1 in Feb … and apologies for the three-character error on the 1-2-1 form.
I am dismayed. Fried eggs are…fried(bad for you). A hard fried egg is even harder to swallow and the chef is now a past master of the scrambled egg
Other than Jason and that Heathen Richard (how can you not like poetry ) Reed I think you are all setting a bad EGGSAMPLE to the others going on about eggs rather than a rather splendid blog and an eggcellent meeting. I feel my Humpty Dumpty poem coming to the top of the pile. Cant we have boiled egg and soldiers
Perhaps we could have a one week trial run on the Fried Eggs and a vote round the table afterwards? To be fair to the scrambled egg brigade (sorry Aidan, that’s only you for the moment) then there should be a majority of say 60% to change to fried eggs as opposed to a simple majority of 51%.
What we need is an egstraordinary general meeting
Egbert
Egbert who?
Egbert no bacon
Please no more m brain is scrambled and im cracking up -two babybells go into a pub, one says to the other your round. what did the cheese say when it looked at itself in the mirror Helloume
I’m in both camps. Soft scrambled eggs [NOT WITH MILK ADDED] are heaven. But an egg fried in olive old and a little butter is also great … as long as the yellow is still runny. As HH would say … ” there is only one way to decide this … FIGHT”
How about poached egg!
