Chairman’s Blog – Meeting Thursday 25th April 2013.
Reasonably well attended meeting, 25 members and 1 guest Alan Pegg who has made application to join and has been accepted by the Committee. Hopefully we will be able to induct him next week.
The Ed Slot this week was delivered by Jason Nortey and he gave us the benefit of some corporate bank speak. The acronym used to stimulate the bank staff was “rises” and given the current stagnation in the market place “RISES ” are things that an awful lot of employees are looking for and employers are avoiding each for equally understandable reasons. Nonetheless the acronym did represent a realistic assessment as to how we should approach our business dealings and has universal application. We should in concluding our businesses show Respect Integrity Service Excellence Stewardship. See….!! I was both listening and taking notes.
This week Alan Shaw was notable by the cut of his hair rather than the utterances of his mouth. He looked positively boyish as he addressed us. It should have been the prelude to a great piece of whimsy but unfortunately he simply talked about feasibility studies, never mind …
Nick Morgan produced by way of a prop a large photograph of one of his more recent exploits showing the various types of signs that he is involved with. By the time he got to the awning, many of us were … no seriously Nick it was excellent.
Anne from Redwood Clarke explained how she and Kim had found and taken on a young man. Who said bookkeeping was without excitement.
Neil Lewer strayed from his usual kitchen and bathroom pitch and suggested weird and wonderful things like revamping staircases. Have you noticed in the horror films the vampire always comes down the stairs.
Michael Adelizzi told us of wet floors for old couples with no lips. I must have got that wrong but it was immediately after Marcelle had told us about a blue diamond worth 10million dollars. I did not even try to do the conversion.
Richard Reed made us all dream of holidays in Italy and Howard Bullock told us of the rather unlikely client who had “too much” in his pension fund. That struck a cord with all of us….
Geoff Todd was sporting a red face consistent with being out in the fresh air and more importantly the recent sunshine. It set off his green jumper a treat.
Brian Painter’s 60 seconds was slightly unusual. A man who was still angry with his wife after 3 months and who stayed angry even after being put under. Apparently it was all down to his mother belittling him as a child. Brian apparently managed to resolve the matter by arranging to have the mother killed (probably death by nicotine).
It’s all about having goals and focusing on them. Jason gave us a virtual walk through of his branch. The downstairs apparently is like the old debtors gaol. That’s “gaol” Jason not “goal” but it was reference to goals that won the Oscar. Stewart Roberts told us to set goals, to write them down and focus on them. A well deserved Oscar for Stewart, and probably the first of many.
Our respected Education and Development Officer tried out the new wireless projector for future presentations. It appears that it will not link up with internet hence the clarion call “ bring your own dongle”. He then introduced our 10 minute speaker Kevin Brooks who apparently has 200 fish but has not named them, something that David continued to Carp about as he made the introductions.
It was a good 10 minutes, Kevin is always one of the best members to refer because of the high quality of his work and many people gave testament to that during the referrals round which produced £4,420 worth of business and just under 20 referrals. Nonetheless it was a good lively round.
Let’s see if we can have a really good turn out next week.
This looks like a very interesting meeting. I might have to come along one week to meet you all.
Gemma, watch out for Brian.
I’d say watch out for Paul.
Brilliant, Gemma. Hope to see you soon….watch out for Brian, he is a Gem.
Fantastic meeting…great that Alan joined. Hope to see you all next weel, although I will be on annual leave.
Dedication, that!
