Chairman’s Business Networking Blog Tuesday 3rd June 2014.
19 present including our visitor Lianne Murray from Barclays.
The Ed Slot from Nige Kirby talked about visitors As well as our visitor of the day from Barclays we also had a previous visitor, Debra Glover go through the painless process of induction as our most recent new member. Welcome Debra.
So what were the high points and low points of the 60 second round? I’ll just give you a few and you can decide whether they were high or low.
The World Cup inevitably reared its corrupt head. Richard Willis mentioned Suarez as the most marketable player who will be there. Chris Adams has had Iain Martin install a 54” TV somewhere in his abode in readiness for the great sporting event. The makers of lager can start resting easy in their beds.
For those members whose job it is to promote businesses there was a theme? Richard Willis, Scott Griffiths and Christine Arnold all spoke of first impressions and the importance of using their services rather than muddling through in getting your message over to the great unwashed.
Question – how long does it take a member to walk round the room and giving out magazines to everyone present?
Answer – 60 seconds – Well done Stewart Sinclair it was enough to make everybody feel tired (apart from getting up at 5 am in the morning) Robert Mayes even talked of tired rooms.
For those of us who listen to Brian Painter carefully, and I am sure that speaks for all of us, it is his crusade to help smokers that is most stomach churning and today was no exception. Fortunately my and most other peoples breakfast had digested by the time he told of the lady with throat cancer and the litre of tar that smokers ingest into their lungs on a yearly basis. It’s as well Robert Osborne was not there, him suffering from B B Q belly and all. Not only were our constitutions put at risk by Mr Painter but he also won the Oscar.
Dean Smith gave the shortest 60 second “…I am doing the ten mutes so I will save it till then…” but he also gave a relatively succinct 10 minutes telling us his working history. He gave us an entertaining presentation and an insight that should enable us to think of him whenever we hear of someone who has a problem with their roof.
From Dean‘s 10 minute moved to the referrals and testimonials round. This week there were a dozen referrals. The numbers are creeping up on a weekly basis and this will soon work through into monies recorded.
I cannot finish this Blog without making mention of the scrambled egg. Last week it would have made excellent roof tiles if cut into the appropriate shapes. This week it was silky smooth and wonderful.
Don’t forget the Business to Business Synergy Team Meeting on Wednesday at 4.30pm. If I don’t see you there I will see you all next week.
Apologies all for not being there….the dreaded man flu rearing its ugly head (maybe a reaction to my Birthday the week before!). Looking forward to seeing those of you at the Synergy meeting today (Weds). Have a great week all!!
Am I Scottish ‘Stewart’ now Aidan?
they’re better together
Glad to be part of EBF and to get to know you all better – induction was a painless process – thankfully Brian wasn’t in charge of my ‘initiation’ seeing as his mind was wondering to thoughts of a Brazilian!!!
See you all next week,
Dr Deb!
Well done,Dean, on your first 10 minutes. It was a little mean of you, however, not to give Ugo Hugo our bus conductor from Dutch Holland an opportunity to ring his bell during the 60 second round!
Yet another great meeting.
Well done to Dean for his 10 (3) minutes. Who knew pictures of tiles could be so interesting!!!
Will be trying the sample set given out by Dr Deb, that’s the men’s set FYI.
